Retracing our honeymoon trip to the NC Outer Banks 56 years ago, we stopped in Plymouth, NC, for an evening meal of fresh steamed oysters and shrimp at The Garden Spot. The rustic upstairs setting matched our desire for a casual, relaxed meal. Dennis skillfully...shucked our half peck and enabled us to savor every oyster we dipped into the house pepper vinegar. Interrupting her birthday celebration, the restaurant Mama, joined by several family members, honored us with personal greetings. Mama Wally generously shared restaurant and family history, which cemented this evening in our memories. We look forward to a return trip this fall in oyster season.More

The Garden Spot is on Water St. amidst a struggling historic district revival. But what a hidden gem. The menu, while not fancy, offers what i consider to be a solid seafood (and steaks, sandwiches and salads - but i don't eat those others). I...ordered the two-choice seafood plate, in this case grilled shrimp and fried flounder. It came with a mountain of fries and I chose the cucumber salad over the slaw. The cuke salad was seasonal with tomatoes and a bit of chopped onion in a vinaigrette bath. Can't forget the hushpuppies, which I believe are one of the important signatures of restaurants that offer them. These were round mounds of cornmeal that had only a hint of sweetness. And these did not need butter. Standard offering of popular beers including my coveted Guinness! I' will try to make it back here before I leave town in two days.More

Had dinner here tonight and met some really nice people. Ordered the grilled pork chop and the taco salad. Nothing wrong with the meal but nothing special.

Great spot! We went upstairs to the oyster bar and wow the steamed shrimp crab legs were amazing along with the steak! Very friendly people!

Don't let the name fool you. There are two selections appropriate for vegetarians, despite the name of the restaurant. Why not call it The Meat/ Chicken/ Seafood Spot instead? I thought for sure when we saw this place it would have something for me to...eat, but unfortunately not. There was ONE salad selection appropriate for a vegetarian, or I could have gone with a grilled cheese sandwich. So I ordered a couple of sides. Disappointing. Won't be visiting again next time we pass through town.More

Two of us traveling on business stopped here today. Lunch was excellent. I had the fried oysters; my friend had the special, fried pork chop. Both were delicious, cooked just right, the oysters plump, crisp and flavorful and the pork chop crisp and juicy, tender...inside. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The Garden Spot is very good!More

We stopped here around 7:15 pm after finding it online during our off-the-beaten path road trip. Good food. Very friendly service. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Driving back from the OBX we found this restaurant courtesy of our GPS. It has a very welcoming staff and it's décor is hand painted and charming. We were there for lunch and had a wrap and a burger. Everything was delicious and the staff...was very helpful and attentive. We always opt for family owned restaurants and this one did not disappoint.More
