We enjoyed the Flying Melon twice. This is the BEST dining experience on Ocracoke. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual, and the vast menu offers a variety of choices along with daily specials. Be sure to try one of the bartenders special cocktails. The second time we visited we skipped dinner and were welcome to enjoy another unique cocktail and... More

Broad, unique menu. Grilled fish was great. Service was excellent. Short wait on table for 4. waiting crowd grew during the evening. Looked like owner/operators were onsite - frequently the sign of a good restaurant.

The waitress was amazing on New Years Eve. We had early reservations for 6:30 to avoid drunken debauchery but still had to contend with an obnoxious diner at a nearby table. Despite pleas to the staff they were ineffective at controlling the other guest who dominated the dining room with a booming voice and inappropriate language. The amazing meal we... More

We have eaten at the Flying Melon at least one other time while visiting Ocracoke. It was in walking distance to our hotel, but it was the last weekend they were going to be open for the season! Not enough business to stay open all year, apparently. Food was excellent.

This place was recommended by locals as the best restaurant on Ocracoke. The food was excellent and definitely lived up to the reputation. For my wife and I, however, the setting inside just did not have a warm feeling. The service was good, but we were seated very close to two separate parties of two..........each very close to us on... More

Another great experience. Molly was great as always. There is just not a better dining experience on the island! We have tried all the restaurants and the Flying Melon remains Number 1. From the service to the quality, and flavor of the dishes; all were flawless. This restaurant is not to be missed when visiting Ocracoke. I look forward to... More

We love the Flying Melon. Michael's recipes are delicious, many with a little Cajun/Creole influence, and executed very, very well. I ate here 3 times this last trip to the island and all were memorable. Great service by Jenny and Kathy highlighted delectable meals. The appetizers there - local oysters, from Ocracoke, which are amazing, mahi ceviche, fried green tomatoes... More

Although a little difficult for us to find the staff talked us there, turn by final turn until we parked near entrance. Obviously I will give their entire staff from reception to bar to server an outstanding. We were quickly seated and waited on with drinks promply served. We sat upstairs at top of circular stairway overlooking bar and entrance.... More

We'd read about the Flying Melon for a couple of months. But a recent hurricane and the late season made it a question mark for us. It shouldn't have been. While the one server in our section was walking his legs off he didn't shirk on service or sound advice regarding the menu. When we go back this will be... More
