We really thought this would be a basic kinda joint with mass produced seafood for tourists, BUT we were wrong! It was really fresh and delicious. One of the better she crab soups I have had. The fish of the day was red drum and delicious blackened, fried oysters and a berry/goat cheese salad was very good. The setting is beautiful. It’s busy but by 7:30-8pm we just walked up and waited only 10-15 minutes.

The Restaurant industry has been in an upheaval since the start of the Covid era. Short on staff, prices rising, and a lot of old favorites have bitten the dust or declined in quality and service. So with baited breath we approached Miller's Water Front Restaurant the last week of September. It was off season and all over the Outerbanks everyone had lost their seasonal help. I was not expecting it to be as good as in the past. They were crowded, there was a 20 to 30 minute wait for a table but with a pager in hand we went out on the pier behind their restaurant. The view as sunset approached over the bay was spectacular! My only complaint, I will insert here is that they need to redo the parking and they have very few handicap spots. However we were called to a table faster than we were expected. Miller's made some smart changes to their operations. The waitress sheepishly mentioned a charge for what were once free hush puppies. People must have been getting upset and taking it out on her. However we did not care because they serve some of the best hush puppies bar none. A couple of other changes allowed them to keep the Entree prices from going sky high unlike most of the other restaurants we have been in lately. By the way a large basket of Hush puppies was only $ 4.00. Beautiful view of the sound from our table. Kim our server was very attentive even though she had a least a dozen tables. My wife and I each ordered the Trawl boat platter which included shrimp, scallops and crab cake. The platter was only $ 25.00 apiece, unheard of for the large fresh local seafood we received. I should also point out that my wife loved the tarter sauce so much, that she asked if they sold it and they do! So we took home a pint container which we just used up this week. I was going to use the lack of tarter sauce as an excuse to go down there for our anniversary at the beginning of December. However I saw from their web site they are closed until Spring. Curses foiled again. The tarter Sauce was tangy & spicy, the seafood was so delicious, hot steaming on the platter and the crab cakes were fresh with real crab meat! I also have to complement their Managers. As busy as the restaurant is, they came around to every table several times and took care of any complaints of which we had none! I have mentioned in past reviews that I started coming here as a tyke with my family in 1962 and there are several restaurants that go back that far that are still here. Miller's Waterfront was discovered by my Dad shortly after they opened in 1982. Besides my parents who have passed on. My wife and I have made this be on our short list of restaurants that we go to for dinner. I will be reviewing some of our other favorites as I find time.

We were here in September, so we were seated quickly. It is a big restaurant so it does seat a lot of people. We started with a basket of hush puppies, which were served with butter. The hush puppies in Outer Banks are more like a sweet bread, very tasty! My husband had the Fresh Wanchese Sea Scallops with onion rings and a bowl of zucchini, squash, onions, and peppers. He said they were fabulous! I had the Oregon Inlet Tuna with the teriyaki ginger glaze, with mashed potatoes, and the zucchini mixture. I had the tuna prepared medium instead of the usual medium rare. It was a good call – it was all delicious. The servers were friendly and efficient and food came out very quickly! The view out to the Roanoke Sound was very peaceful!

This place is apparently known for its view. Trust me, on the Outer Banks, there are a lot of great restaurants with awesome waterfront views. So don’t hit this place just for that if you are looking for good service and the great seafood for which the OBX is known. We arrived there around 5 pm and sat on the outer upper deck to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We went there for soft shell crabs which are in season but which they did not have. So, we decided to try their steamed local shrimp. The OBX is known for their shrimp and we had just had some awesome shrimp and soft shells down the road At Lone Cedar restaurant. the previous night. The steamed shrimp arrived along with a basket of hush puppies that we ordered as well as a power salad. The salad was good. And the ingredients were fresh. It stopped there. The hush puppies were gummy, over fried and tasteless. The big disappointment was the “ local” shrimp which were nearly impossible to peal, still had the mud vein within and tasted like nothing but rubber. Not even the rancid oily stuff they served with them, that I think was supposed to be butter, made them any more palatable. I asked the waitress if these were local. She went to check and told us they were bought locally But not really sure where they were from. We sent them back. The server said she would send the manager to speak with us, but that person never showed up. The cost was deleted from the bill. Spending 25.00 on a pound of rubber was no way to celebrate a birthday dinner. My BF asked for the lobster po’ boy that we thought was on the menu. The waitress returned with oyster po’ boy tacos. HMmmmm….she said there is a lobster roll and oyster po’ boy tacos so she made the assumption we meant we really wanted oysters and not lobster. At this point we were over it….asked for the bill and left. If you want over priced drinks ( this place has no happy hour) low quality food but a great view, this place is for you. There are lots of waterfront places in the OBX. This place is apparently resting on its laurels.

The cooks do an excellent job, the food is wonderful! The biggest problem we had during our visit started the second we walked in the door. The hostess was rude and clearly annoyed that we had walked in. On top of that, we asked to sit outside and the hostess made it seem like we asked her to make the meal herself. She said that we couldn’t sit outside because they don’t allow parties over five out there but then said they could sit us in two different tables. We got outside and there were two clean tables sitting right beside each other which we pushed together regardless of the rude young women working the host stand. The server didn’t make us feel welcomed until half way into the meal. It just seemed like everyone was annoyed that we were there. This isn’t the type of environment you would want to walk into, especially as a genuinely nice person.

Stopped here to eat dinner with my husband and parents. Looked promising but unfortunately fell WAY short. Ordered appetizer: spinach and artichoke dip with crab (which I usually absolutely adore these dips), sounded So Good but was absolutely TERRIBLE! Tasted like it was made with canned tuna! Yuck. I ordered Millers Salad with grilled chicken breast which was ok except there were several pieces of bad slimy lettuce mixed in, not worth $17. My husband ordered the flounder basket with fries and slaw, his was fine. Mom and dad both ordered the build your own burger and although they both got different toppings, they both said the burger quality was BAD. We all agreed that we will definitely NOT return to this establishment. Cannot recommend.

After a 1.5-hour wait, the food was hit or miss, depending on what we ordered. The crab-stuffed scallops were excellent. The crab cake and popcorn shrimp were good. The stuffed flounder was just ok. Hushpuppies were great (no powder sugar on top like at their sister restaurant). Good slaw. Atmosphere was nice with the pier and the causeway waiting area, but probably not something we’ll do again.

Have been enjoying Miller's Waterfront for many years. Our seafood entrees were very good. Service was friendly and efficient. Their excellent hushpuppies are no longer included with the meal, available for a price. No choice of potato this year. The smashed reds were great but would have preferred a baked potato.

My wife & I both ate best mahi & fried shrimp during our weeks OBX visit. The wait time to be seated was a tad long (45 min) for a Tuesday PM during the "off season" but the bar was open thus providing inside seating to avoid the colder weather. The mixed vegetables (standard offer) with the shrimp were absolutely awesome, however the roasted sweet potato with pork medley wasn't a favorite for my personal taste. Would visit again but go a little earlier than 6:30pm & request a different vegie with the mahi.

Everything awesome !! Food and service were outstanding. Wife had a house salad and a basket of hushpuppies while I had a Miller’s salad with grilled shrimp added. We also had amazing sunset views to go along with our food. A perfect evening.

This used to be our favorite Outer Banks restaurant. I wondered why there was seating at this restaurant while Tale of the Whale was packed full with over an hour wait. I recently had the seafood trio. The oysters were nothing more than fried batter. The fish and scallops were average. The size of servings has been reduced, and now they charge for hushpuppies. There is no longer an early bird discount. The final straw was a 3% "convenience fee" just to pay with a credit or debit card.

Miller’s Waterfront Restaurant has been a family favorite of ours for years! My husband and I just had our “farewell” dinner there to end this most recent OBX vacation and the cuisine was nothing less than perfection - from the cheese curds to the burgers to those famous hush puppies! The service is also top-notch and we couldn’t have asked for a better server…Hristina was attentive, kind, and very personable. If you’re visiting the Outer Banks and are looking for a superb dining option, please take my word for it and give Miller’s Waterfront Restaurant a try - you won’t regret it!!! :)

Millers Waterfront is excellent! The food is wonderful and always fresh and cooked the way you asked. Amy the manager and all her staff are great they go out of the way to make sure your dinning experience meets or exceeds your expectations. When our family are on the Island we are there two to three times to eat and enjoy the sunset. Frank and Gerry Shortall

The location and atmosphere are great. But that is all you get and where it ends. The service was good, but the food was average to below average. I would've been more satisfied going to McDonald's honestly, and would've been a quarter of the cost. I have no problem paying for good food, but this was anything but that, very disappointing. Won't go here again and would recommend other places. You can get much better food, with similar location/atmosphere in other places all over the area.

We were excited to eat here as we had heard good things but it just wasn’t good. First of all you cannot get some items fried and others broiled with some combinations and we were told the reason was because these items were already in plates and waiting to be cooked which seemed not very good so I settled for the crab cakes and they had no favor. My husband got fried trio and was greasy. Will not be going back and would not suggest them
