Trying to choose a good seafood restaurant in the Outer Banks is a challenge, because there are so many. Thanks to some TripAdvisor forum suggestions, we decided to try Tale of the Whale tonight. So glad we did! First, if you go at "happy hour", which after September 1st is between 5-6 pm, you automatically get 20% off your total... More

This restaurant has great food, service and ambiance. The music in the gazebo is a great interlude before, or after, dinner.

We arrived early and were met at the door by the most rude, arrogant and unhelpful person. Walked thru 6 inches of water in the parking lot for nothing. He explained they had a wedding going on and the party was not happy it rained. (Not sure why that was our problem.) No offer to suggest another rest. No apology... More

Food was okay. Bread was just average fare. We had kebabs and flounder with crab meat. Most of the kebabs were good but the scallops were almost raw. If there was crab meat on the flounder, I couldn't find it. However, the manager did offer to either bring another dish or take it off the bill. In that respect the... More

Great views and location. Staff was nice our waitress very friendly. Food was good if a little old school. A nice place for a couples dinner on the outer banks.

I hadn't been to the Tale of the Whale in several years and I'm so glad that we decided to go again. It's in lovely location, overlooking the sound. We were there on a Saturday night and it was very busy but we sat outside and enjoyed the views, looking out over the water. And, it was definitely worth the... More

5th year to OBX and always looking for good/better restaurants. Think we have found a keeper in Tail of the Whale. Accommodations were great. Fairly busy for a Monday night and got right in, booth with window view. Server Matt was always Johnny on the spot with excellent service, great advice and absolutely no waiting. Food was good, probably on... More

My bride and I selected this place based on reviews here, their website and communication with the manager, Dan, from Phoenix, AZ so we really didn't know what we were going to get. Our dinner was on Friday and on the Monday we met with Dan at the restaurant, tasted a couple of drinks for our "Signature Drink" and discussed... More

This was our last night on vacation and it did not disapoint. The wait was a bit long but the pier they have behind the resturant allowed us to enjoy the sunset while we waitied. The service was very good and we both enjoyed our meals. Plan ahead and make a reservation if you are on a timeline, but this... More
