Celebrated an anniversary with my husband tonight with dinner at Tale of the Whale in OBX. Had a window seat with a view of the water with candlelight/low light setting inside. It's always good but this time of year it's quieter - the kids are in school so less vacationers! - so it's easier to have a relaxing dinner. I... More

Took family to Tale of the Whale for a dinner out while spending a week in OBX. We wanted some place that offered fresh local seafood, which they do. Food was good, service was fine - waitress was kind of pushy when it came to asking us to order appetizers and add on side dishes - I was a bit... More

This consistently has some of the best food on the Outer Banks. Service is very good, food outstanding, and a great view. On nice evenings you can sit outside over the water and listen to music.

My wife and I spent a week in the Outer Banks and were looking for a nice place to celebrate our anniversary. We overheard a tour guide recommend Tale of the Whale to another couple. We drove by and decided to stop. The meals that we ordered were by far the best food that we ate the entire week in... More

Very popular place for couples, groups and families. The early bird special (20% discount is a draw too!). Popular for destination wedding parties. This restaurant can handle a crowd! Shortly before opening a queue forms. Servers hand out numbered beepers so that you can find a bench and enjoy the view of the Sound. the staff can also efficiently handle... More

Food is fabulous! But when I left my jacket there and came back to look for it, the owner treated us like we were idiots! No food is good enough to overcome rudeness. There are way too many wonderful places to eat in the Nags Head area

Awesome view of sound, especially at sunset. Started with crab legs appetizer, salad, and she-crab soup; the she-crab soup was full of crab, creamy, delicious. Entrees included seafood combinations, broiled and fried, and shrimp and scallop au gratin. All were excellent, and service top notch and attentive. Menu offers great variety and they have 5 fish items that can be... More

We have been to Nags Head many times but never been to Tale of the Whale until this past weekend attending a rehearsal dinner. The food was remarkable. The tuna was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. We will definitlely go to Tale of the Whale during our trip next year.

The food here is excellent. The hot crab dip and scallops are awesome! The plates were around $25-$30 each, but that seemed to be normal for the area.
