Tale of the whale meets its expectations that we get every year. I got the fried seafood platter, was decent, flounder was too thick. They need to get rid of the bread and change it for something that doesn't make quite the mess. All of us got desserts and they were all decent, the hummingbird tasted better than the lack... More

I went with my family of six, 2 adults, 4 kids, for dinner. We were seated immediately without reservations. The food was expense but very good and from drinks to appetizers to the main coarse everything was served very quickly. Which is great with younger children. Great views from our window seats. Our waitress was fine but seemed put off... More

As is the case a lot of the time on the Island, people travel in large groups. We were 17, and could not be more impressed with the great level of service and care the staff took in making our dinner experience special. Our waitress nailed it, top to bottom, cocktails from the bar, drinks for the kids, appetizers, and... More

This is a very popular restaurant. Plan to spend a lot especially if you have a family, but the food is outstanding. The service was great! We had one waitress for 21 people and she was very quick and accommodating! I highly recommend their frozen mixed drinks - something called Cocoa Peach or something like that. The filet was cooked... Went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend. Enjoyed the food and location right on the water. I got the coconut shrimp appetizer, a salad and a bowl of she-crab soup, my daughter a chicken-pasta dish, along with two beverages. Our bill was about $70! I live in Raleigh, so I'm "used" to high prices ......... but I... More

I have been coming down to OBX for 20 years every couple of years now in the summers from MD. I always thought this would be one of those nice view, mediocre food, overpriced kind of places. But we tried it on a weekday and what a very pleasant surprise. Yes, we had a 20-30 minute wait but you can... More

Large, family type restaurant with a beautiful location on the sound. They don't take reservations, but the deck/gazebo and bar on the water makes any wait pleasant. Dined as a family group of 6, and all enjoyed the experience... even our fussy 16-year old granddaughter. Prices are reasonable and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Food was excellent with... More

The Tale of the Whale is an all around outstanding restaurant, with a picturesque location (window seats overlook the sound towards Bodie lighthouse), great food (personal favorite is the broiled scallops and the hushpuppies), and an attentive staff. The Early Bird deal saves you money while also increasing the chance of a window seat. If you go in prime time... More

My family and I went there on a Friday night for dinner and we had an hour wait. We had the option of going upstairs for drinks and live music and a beautiful view. We had a 5 year old with us and the upstairs was just a little to loud for him. The view from up there was great.... More
