Established in 1972. "Southland", as we are known, is comprised of Southland Restaurant, Southland Snack Bar, as well a general convenience store and shopping areas. Southland Restaurant serves country-style meals featuring "THE BEST" Fried Chicken and our Carolina BBQ. Southland Snack Bar features fast made to order Carolina BBQ sandwiches and dinners. We serve premium Blue Bunny brand hand-dipped ice cream. Southland serves locals and travelers alike, many of whom are visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We are a landmark stop that is part of many folks' vacation traditions. From the beginning there has been a lot of time, effort, pride, and care directed towards providing old-fashioned service, and the absolute highest quality, at the most reasonable price.

Best fried chicken in the world! It's boss! Amazing restaurant!

I came here for the first time for lunch and I was super impressed with the 3 Piece dark meat fried chicken with 2 sides. I had fries for one side and they were tasty and mash potatos and gravy for the 2'nd side. Fried chicken was boss! Super moist and juicy and not over seasoned! Service was fast and attentive! Beer is reasonably priced also at $3.19 for a Bud! Best restaurant in North Carolina and if your traveling to OBX you gotta stop here! The rest of the food looked and smelled amazing also! I will be back 4 sho!

Went for breakfast as we travelled home from OBX. They had just reopened for breakfast that same day so things were a little confusing but that was understandable getting use to all the COVID rules etc. Had the breakfast BLT with cheese. Bacon was crispy as requested. Rye bread was very good. Wait staff was friendly. Prices super reasonable. Plenty of parking.

Local bbq on way to OBX

Heading to the OBX and need a family friendly lunch stop, this could work. We both had the chicken and bbq combo. For the price I was very satisfied. Chicken maybe a 3.5 and bbq a 3. Chicken very juicy and tender, skin not much flavor. Bbq vinegar based, not our fave but was good. I think it needed a little more flavor. Sides good and service for Wednesday evening was standard.

Delicious Fried Catfish Sandwich

Stopped there today. My wife had the fried chicken and it was good. My fried catfish sandwich was excellent! Crispy, moist, on a toasted french bread with lettuce and tomato. A little hot sauce added the final touch.

Southern fried chicken

Delicious southern fried chicken, hush puppies, mashed potatoes & gravy, & cucumber salad. My wife also had potato salad & fried okra. It was all delicious. Friendly service. Highly recommend this place!

Home Style Food at its Best !!

Well, where do we begin. Great done to earth home style cooking with good old fashioned service. We loved the fried chicken and the side orders that came along with it. Its an easy ride from the OBX area and sure to not disappoint.

Nice local spot on the main road

Great service and delicious food. The salad bar is very clean and nicely stocked. It’s an additional $3.99 if you want it as a side with your entree. It’s only one trip too. That’s the only reason I went with 4 stars.

Good lunch stop in Moyock.

Stopped here on the way home from the OBX for lunch. Got a good BBQ sandwich and fried okra on the side. Service was good, prices are reasonable.

Foul-mouthed Kitchen Help

My wife and I went here for supper and had the terrible misfortune of sitting near the entrance to the kitchen. As a result, we were treated to an endless barrage of profanity and vulgarity spilling from the kitchen. Evidently one of the males working in the kitchen learned a new swear word today and felt compelled to use it repeatedly. Having served 22 years in the military, I was no stranger to foul language. I’ve always considered myself to be someone not easily offended, but this guy managed to do just that. When we spoke to the server about it, she was hesitant to say anything to him for fear of him turning his attention to her. Talk about your toxic work environment! Avoid this place unless you have extremely thick skin.

Great comfort food

We have passed by for years, but finally stopped by recently for late lunch. Not a huge selection of items, but sufficient. Everything we had was fantastic. If you like eastern NC BBQ (vinegar based), you will not find better. The fried chicken is outstanding. One of our family loves fried chicken livers (not me) that were available as a daily special, and said they were great. The sides were all “comfort” sides prepared and seasoned perfectly. The rolls and hush puppies were great. Portions are substantial. We could have eaten a basket full. The service was great, although not crowded during our visit. Not a large place, so may be a much different experience during the summer when OBX traffic is heavy on Saturday and Sunday. We live less than 30 minutes away, so now that we have tried it, we are sure to return

The juiciest chicken breast I have ever had!! Was traveling and stopped due to trip advisor reviews...they did not disappoint! Staff were very friendly as well!

Cozy Place! Great Homestyle Food

Service is great and friendly. While not a large selection the buffet is full of homestyle food. Their Hatteras clam chowder is so good! Hubby always purchases sweet potato biscuits to take home. We already have reservations for Thanksgiving 😀

Best Southern brunch!

Glad we found out this hidden gem on our way back to MD from OBX. My family was craving for authentic southern style food which this place has in abundance! Awesome buffet, kids enjoyed every bit of it and my whole family had smiles all over! Thank you Southland for this great service!

Sunday buffet

I had the chance to visit the buffet on a Sunday afternoon. The food was good and the service was friendly. The buffet was in a back room and felt crowded at times. I will come back with the family. We were in and out in about 30 minutes.

Best Fried Chicken Around!

Because of the sign outside that says "best fried chicken", we decided to stop here for a late lunch and try it. I ordered the chicken tenders and my husband had the fried chicken and bbq. I have to say it truly was the best fried chicken we ever ate. The breading was delicious and everything was fresh. Our waitress, Heather was friendly and attentive and did tell us that each platter is made fresh. We will be back again for this delicious chicken.
