WARNING: Casa San Carlo shows a price on the menu at your table but charge you a higher price on your bill, on at least a few of the items; but more on that later. The food: I'd rate the food higher than average, it was tasty, served at the appropriate temperature and cleverly executed. Unfortunately between the fluid in the table lamps and the stale cigarette smell from various staff, enjoying the delicious meal was a challenge; for that and the general ambiance I'd rate the ambiance/atmosphere a low 2. Back to the prices: I noticed, at least on the two items I ordered that wehad been overcharged on both (the table ordered five items total). When I pointed this out to our waitress I was told they have been meaning to re-do their menu. When I indicated it was inappropriate to represent one price on the menu then charge whatever they would like she took the bill away and came back with a bill that had $1 taken off but the bill still represented an overcharge. We paid the bill, tipped (assuming it was not the waitstaff's fault) and left. Full me once shame on you, there won't be a second time! Ciao Carlo!

Went there with friends of ours for an early dinner at around 330 Friday evening February 16th 2024. There were 4 of us and one other table of 3 and the rest of the place was empty. Place looked deserted, no bartender, not much staff. I had Chicken Favoloso, sauce was great, chicken was killed, totally overcooked. My husband ordered Pescatore alla Sorrento SPICY! nope he said sauce was good but not spicy at all I asked if he wanted it sent back but he refused. He also said, being that we clam ourselves that the clams didn't seem fresh and the mussels were overdone to peasize, calamari like rubber-tentacles included in parts, and shrimp were overdone also he said seemed served over fettucine not linguine. We didn't fuss while there because our friends are sensitive and didn't want to cause an issue. My wine was great Bosa Sauv Blanc and our server Shayna did pretty good, actually had a personality which is different these days. The biggest problem are tourists coming here not knowing how seafood should be prepared or italian foods . My husband's is from Sicily and most of the menfolk of his family were also baymen, who harvested their own clams and mussels. Not having the proper cooks or service is going to put this place out of business. Unfortunately, we will not be back. So long Carlo!

Valentines Day & my 21st Anniversary. Invited a good friend and his wife. Expected the dinner to be good, a few drinks, and visit. We were seated promptly and Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar poured onto a plate in the corner of the table. We asked for another for the people who couldn't reach. Waited for bread... 20 minutes passed and no bread, and no drinks. Just water that had been sitting on the table for who knows how long. The girls ordered wine, and I ordered a Vodka Martini with three olives. Time passed and the wine arrived and a while later waitress brought a Martini glass with a tiny bit of Vodka and nothing else... she said, "That's two ounces of Vodka" proudly. I said, "it's a sample in my opinion... don't you know how to make a Martini?" I refused the drink, and a while later we finally ordered out meals. The waitress spoke so rapidly about the "Specials" that you could hardly understand it. I settled on the Veal Picata without capers. Now another Martini came proudly to the table... Still had ice chunks floating in it. Tasted horrible (and I drink Martini's regularly when out). Refused it Waitress said she'd have someone else try.... I said if you don't have a bartender then just stop. The meals arrived and my veal was swimming in wine sauce. I had to pour some off onto a saucer so as to not splash when cutting the meat. It was pale and what breading that was on it had turned into the same pasty looking mess. I ate about half and stopped. The best part was the squash. And that was way over cooked. Now the bill... The bill was divided between the two couples, but the waitress put three meals on one bill and only one on the other. She went to correct that and next she had the wrong meals paired. Went away again and corrected that. We spent so much time with food and billing screw ups that our conversation became about the screw ups, not a pleasant visit as we expected from Casa San Carlo. We figured the waitress was on drugs...

Had an outstanding Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp (shrimp were huge and tasty) with a good Italian friend this week. I love the hot garlic bread to eat while deciding on my dinner choice. And dinner was large enough to bring home for the next night. I know we overate but the calamari to start and cannoli to finish made it an evening to remember. Thank you Carlo and his lovely wife.

We arrived 5 minutes ahead of our 7 pm reservation but were not seated until 7:20. Restaurant was busy & staff short handed. Very loud. Could not hear or speak comfortably. Food was good. One of our party did not get his meal until 10 minutes after the other 4. Our waitress tried hard.

Wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere. The menu is extensive for a small establishment. Jimmy, our waiter was busy but very attentive and did a great job. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Italian food.

Don’t waste your money. They serve lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. My friend and I had heard such good reviews we were excited to go for a Friday lunch. Once a month, we try a new restaurant for lunch in the New Bern/Morehead City area. I ordered Veal Marsala. Good size serving but only average on taste. This is my favorite Italian meal, and I have been thrilled with it at many different restaurants in many different cities. I would not come back for this here. My friend ordered Pecatore alla Sorrento, her favorite Italian dish. She said the sauce was thin and watery, and she left half of the dish behind. Two items were delicious: (1) the hot bread out of the oven with olive oil and parmesan and (2) the cannoli with filling piped in right before serving. We were told the house red wine was $6.95 a glass. Our poor waitress had to come back and tell us that she’s been out for a few days and they just raised it to $9.95. Decor is very average. Absolutely fine if the meal had been excellent or outstanding. If you are an aficionado of good to great Italian food, don’t bother coming here.

Sunday lunch. We ordered a split of lasagna and two house salads($4 each) and two teas. The menu stated lasagna was $18, split plate $6. Teas were $2.50 each. Bill came back at over $50. 18+6+8+5 =$37.00 I tried to explain this to our server and she mumbled something about the menu being subject to change. The salad was the standard iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and a couple olives. Lasagna was just OK. Service was slow. There are better options in the area.

TFor the best Italian food for many miles around, this is the place! With friends, we had lasagna, chicken franchesca, a grouper special, and spaghetti! All were outstanding, and the portions as always, were huge! Great wait staff, martinis full to the brim, signature garlic bread and quite reasonable prices. We have come to expect nothing less than fine dining here and tonight was no exception! Last night's TV exposure is well deserved.

Our experience was abysmal this evening. Despite the restaurant being practically empty for our 6:30 reservation, we stood there waiting for 10 min and finally seated ourselves. Our waitress got our beer order wrong twice, and we waited 20 min for a Aperol spritz. Two of the appetizer items, Clams casino and mussels we were told were not available 15 minutes after we ordered them. I ordered a bowl of stratiatelle florentine soup and got a bowl of fagiol. At that point( one hour after ordering) we were informed that the veal Francese was not available. We asked for the check and cancelled the rest of our order. What a huge disappointment- we don't need to shake the chefs hand, how bout just serve what's on the menu, in a timely manner for goodness sake. Marone!!

We were on vacation and randomly chose this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. The waitress was very sweet, nice wine selection, delicious garlic bread like we have never had before. The chef himself came out to every table to make sure we were enjoying everything. Our dishes were amazingly delicious and huge portions. We will visit again!
