Cool restaurant in old bank building!

The service was welcoming and great. The food was varied and wonderful. We had a party of 6 and they accommodated us very nicely. We look forward to our next visit to Charlotte and the restored and enhanced 'downtown' center of Matthews--a suburb on the south side.

A friend and I decided to go here for Thanksgiving dinner for neither were in the mood to cook this year. The servings were delightful and delicious. My meal started with the butternut squash bisque. So smooth and tasty especially when a little liquor was added for extra flavor. The entire meal was so enjoyed. The owner and wait staff... More

Wonderful upscale cafe environment. Food and service excellent. The bacon corn chowder was exceptional. We'll be back.

The first time we ate here in 2012 it was good - not great but good. Things have changed! Delicious fish tacos, Rueben and philly cheese steak sandwiches were all reported to be excellent. I had the house combo with soup, mixed greens and a veggie panini - awesome. Then we had Limoncello cake, the lightest sponge I've ever had... More

Best place in downtown to sit outside on a nice afternoon! Food is always wonderful whether it's a sandwich or a full entree. Do yourself a favor and order the bread basket to start; it's a loaf of crispy fresh bread that's been partially sliced and drizzled with cheese, pesto, and olive oil. Best bread appetizer I've ever had! They... More

We frequent the Matthews area for meals. We have never been here and finally decided to give it a try. It was a dry and warm Friday evening. We elected to eat on the patio. (There was a large party inside and it was quite noisy.) The food was great and we loved the relaxed atmosphere. The owner seems very... More

I have been to Cafe 157 at least 30 times over the past three years, dining mostly at dinner but also at lunch. The quality of the food and the preparation is outstanding. The service is impeccable, and the owners, George and Dora, make everyone feel like a special guest in their own home, always checking on each table to... More

My wife grew up nearby. This used to be a bank so I was skeptical about what the experience would be like. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! I had a filet that was cooked exactly as I ordered it. Service was prompt and as you would expect in a small town, there was no effort to rush you through your... More

The food is good and consistent. They will modify pretty much anything on the menu should you want it done differently. It's a casual atmosphere with emphasis on not hovering during your meal. The wait staff are efficient and more than willing to correct anything that is not 100% to the customer's satisfaction. The bar is small, but very comfortable... More

We have eaten here three times and each experience was different which is not what you want in a restaurant. The first time we ate was on the patio. This was by far the best experience in terms of food and service. The next time we dined inside and it was adequate. The service was indifferent and the food was... More
