Stopped by Thursday night. Amazed to get late reservation for 3 with one day notice. High art foodie priestess leading highly dedicated and focussed staff. Ordered 3 appetizers, entrees, and desserts. All amazingly complex, well intentioned taste, texture, and visual experiences. With current menu three clear winners: flash fried collard greens, cobia entree, blackberry blueberry cobbler. $60 per person without... More

This is our second time at the Chef and the Farmer. Our first time was definately one of the best - ever. Unfortunately, this time fell short of our expectations. We had the Grouper, Clams, and Shrimp Stew and the Cornish Hen. Both were so salty we couldn't eat them. Of course, the service was excellent - too bad the... More

The food here is outstanding. Each plate was bursting with flavors and textures. Loved the breads, the Tom Thumb, actually - everything. Definitely worth the two and a half hour trip. Can't wait for Vivian's cookbook this fall.

Country Ham wrapped peaches (with goat cheese, pecans, balsamic honey), a share plate you MUST enjoy. The small plates are most delightful, eggplant, shush iris peppers and watermelon-cucumber gazpacho. Large plates, I had the painted hills ribeye ( ordered medium-arrived very pink and juicy! Atmosphere, crowded and noisy. Service, good!

Wow, I took my daughter for her birthday dinner. It was fabulous! Great food, great atmosphere. I have been watching the show on PBS for a couple of years now. I highly recommend this place for special occasions. A little pricey, but you get your moneys worth.

A dream came true finally going to the Chef and the Farmer! We sat at the bar and had a fun time with Jordan. He was extremely friendly, skilled, and entertaining. We had drinks and dessert--a delicious peach/cornmeal upside down cake, yummy! I've watched every Chef and the Farmer TV show and was delighted to meet Miss Susie and also... More

We didn't see Vivian but we ordered her cookbook coming soon. We pigged out on lots of appetizers-be sure to order the bread and both had dessert! Lovely evening -just wish she was in Austin!

It's always risky to return to a place that served you a tremendous meal the first time around--those expectations are hard to live up to! We weren't quite as dazzled by our second visit, but it was still a quality meal. We started with ham-wrapped peaches, a dish we had last time and LOVED. These were good, but they overwhelmingly... The Chef & the Farmer is such a wonderful dining experience. Every course is inventive and incredibly delicious. Many unexpected flavor combinations are phenomenal. Service is friendly and professional. I enjoyed the "tomato" dinner as well as two other meals this summer. This restaurant makes ripe summer fruits and vegetables sing! Excellent wines and cocktails. The restaurant can be loud... More

So if you are looking for reviews on Chef & The Farmer you likely already know of Vivian Howard and her series on PBS. You already know that the food will be pretty darn good. I was slightly surprised that there weren't any specials. I'm used to that with places that source local food and I feel like most chefs... More
