Ten of us came down from Raleigh last night to finally experience what everyone had been telling us about! We sat in their wine room since our party was so big. Food was fantastic! Very unique culinary experience. Some of the things we enjoyed most: Our Daily Bread with the black eyed pea spread, flash-fried collards, and the grits. For... More

And worth the drive. The Don and I arrived in Kinston early in the day and walked the downtown area, working up an appetite and talking with people along the way who were also in town for 'The Chef' experience. We arrived early but were greeted warmly and sat right away. The staff were all warm and knowledgeable. I won't... More

We live in a neighboring city and travel to The Chef and the Farmer perhaps every 10 days or so. Nice venue. Nice folks. Since we are local, we have gotten to know some of the staff and they treat us like family. Recommend this place for anyone visiting ENC looking for a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere. Reservations... More

I'm a chauvinist originally from Brooklyn and usually disappointed with Southern-style restaurants. I got dragged to this place and expected the worst. The menu is very limited and didn't have anything I would normally order. Well, I went all in and ordered Hoppin John--it was delicious. My wife ordered a ham dish she loved and said it tasted like lamb.... More

My second visit. The first time was with a group of 10. Because of the size of the group we had no choice but to eat in the private dining room and the only seating option was 5:30. The room was nice, but noisy. Not crazy about eating that early. Mixed reviews on the food within our group. Other than... More

Everything at the Chef and the Farmer delights. My husband and I were wowed by the creative menu, impeccably prepared dishes from truly fresh ingredients, caring service, vibrant dining room, and the story behind it all. Vivian Howard and Ben Knight have created something so authentic with so much heart that dinner at the Chef and the Farmer is a... More

Kinston is a bit of a drive from Wilmington (or Raleigh), but we think the Chef & The Farmer is an experience well worth the drive time. From the outside, the restaurant looks like a bricked warehouse, but once inside it is quite a nice space. We did not venture upstairs, but it seems they have at least one or... More

The BEST dining experience I've ever had. Our server Maria was so attentive, knowledgeable & helpful. The food was extremely fresh; prepared to perfection. Ben & Vivian were visible & attentive to the patrons. If you haven't dined there, make it a priority. You'll never forget it.

First let me say that I love Vivian and what she and Ben have done to revive Kinston! I've been to the Boiler Room multiple times, but this was my first time at the Chef and the Farmer. The service was very attentive. The server and the kitchen did a great job of dealing with a food allergy; they marked... More
