THE place to be in Highlands for a fun atmosphere, great drinks, and food! Enjoyed Dinner our first night and so we went back our second night. Excellent service by personable bartenders who didn’t stop. Food was delicious and large portions. Sports on numerous TVs....Prepare to wait. But it’s fun while you wait!More

This service was the worst service ever. Bartender had no sense of urgency. Took 20 mins to get a drink. She had no clue and did not care.

Enjoyed a quick lunch on the outside patio at the Ugly Dog one Sunday. Patio is first come, first seated so we happened to grab the last table. We were surrounded by a lot of diners with pretty well behaved dogs, so this is a...dog-friendly, casual place that serves good, reasonable food (I had a burger) quickly. Nice Sunday lunch!More

Just like everywhere else in town, it's hard to find service workers. This place had a cooperative staff that worked together to get it done together, in spite of the labor shortage. The Ugly Dog salad with salmon was perfect. The French dip sandwich was...great too. The bartender took up my challenge to find a non-alcoholic drink without too much sugar. Thank you Mr Bartender!More

Great pub environment. Food was good as well as the service. I had a generous portion of Salmon cooked just right on a roll. Their horseradish aioli was a perfect accompaniment.

It is a challenge to find a really great mojito but The Ugly Dog has nailed it! Ordered a margarita flatbread to go along with it which turned out to be a huge disappointment. Menu description was mouth watering but what showed up was anything...but, six thin scraps of basil and l could not see or taste the house made marinara that was suppose to be on it. Hubby enjoyed his burger and fries, which are really hard to screw up.More

We stumbled across The Ugly Dog when we came down from the Lodge at Old Edwards, boy are we glad we did! Great service, great beer and bourbon selection and the Pimiento and Bacon burger was exceptional! Will definitely revisit this gem again, Cheers!

After waiting 45 minutes for our meal of sandwiches, hot dogs and pizza we were told they were out of hot dogs. So two did without because no one wanted to wait for two extra meals to be prepared. Got the bill and they charged...for Hot Dogs they didn’t have. When I asked why it took 45 minutes to determine they didn’t have Hot Dogs they said they were busy and backed up. Plenty of empty tables. The problem was all young help more concerned with their friends and phones than their customers. I would have given it a 2, but the food was just convince store grade. I didn’t rate the bar. It looked good and the night before the band sounded good, but there was a 3 hour wait at 6:00pm. We have been here before and the food was much better. If all you want is drinks and a party atmosphere this place might be a 4.More

The Ugly Dog really is the only pub along Main St. There are plenty of bar options, but they all are associated with higher end restaurants. The atmosphere at the other places do not feel like a bar. This place 100% looks and feels like...a pub. Service was slow. We visited this pub two different times in our two-day stay in Highlands. The wait to get our drink orders and refills was excessive. In some cases, we had to flag down any employee to get someone to do refills. Taking our food order was also an ordeal. I take pictures which gives time stamps. We placed our order at 5:58 PM. It was delivered at 6:40 PM. It was warm. You could tell it sat under the warmers too long. Even though the service was very slow, I am certain I would come back. It's a cool atmosphere with an incredible top-shelf bourbon selection. It also is the only "bar" looking place with a casual relaxed feeling.More

This place was awesome and hit the spot after a morning of hiking. We started with some great drinks, old fashion, and appetizers. I got the tater tots and there were great but the fried macaroni and cheese bites were amazing. I then had the...BBQ sandwich and it was great as well. Our entire group enjoyed. The best part is it was an easy walk back to our house. If you are in Highlands, I highly recommend eating here.More

North Carolina only allows service dogs in restaurants, but we do have a small out door area that you can sit with your dog if you would like to get your meal to go. Thank you so much, Kay
