We went to Boca for a casual dinner out. The cocktails were great, the service was great, but the food was the same as it has been for quite a while. The food is good, but the menu desperately needs an overhaul. The tapas selections...need several additions. The larger plates are okay, but an addition would be welcomed. We really like Boca, but the menu is in need of some help.More

First time visiting any tapas restaurant but had an interesting and flavorful meal. We were a party of 8 and decided in advance to order by couple, since our tastes and dietary requirements differed. I ordered cauliflower, blistered green beans, piquilloes and chicken tagine. My...dining partner ordered wedge salad and tomato basil soup. Everything was well-prepared and presented well The highlights of our meal were the order of 3 piquilloes (red peppers with peels removed and stuffed with goat cheese), blistered green beans (generous serving with a spicy coating), chicken tagine (large serving not set up for sharing with very flavorful soup-like base topped with very tender shredded chicken), and wedge salad. The serving of tomato basil soup was very generous and tasted like fresh basil with a hearty tomato base. At first taste, it was exceptional (I'm not generally impressed by tomato soup), but after the first few spoonfuls, seemed pretty salty--three of us who tried it made the same observation). I probably wouldn't order the cauliflower again (it was fine, but there are better things on the menu). Although we didn't order dessert, several who had been to Boca before swooned over the pots de creme, intensely decadent chocolate pudding-like desserts with whipped cream on top. Others were pleased with the pecan pie and creme brulee with blueberries on top. One in the party ordered an amaretto sour, which wasn't on the menu, but was well-prepared, and a cappucino with a side of Bailey's Irish Cream. The rest of us had the bottles of water that were refilled throughout the meal (the still water that comes with the meals at no charge). The only less-than-excellent comment came from the folks who ordered the chicken breast. They said they found it a little underseasoned. The folks who ordered salmon loved it. Service was excellent, with the server making lots of clarifications and descriptions of the dishes. At the end of the meal, she also let us know that when we got the bill (on a hand-held device), a 20% tip would be automatically included, so at the point that the screen asked how much to tip, if we didn't to add more than the 20%, to select "no tip." I'm not sure if a party of less than 6 or 8 has an automatic 20%, but the service certainly warranted at least 20%. There was live entertainment, a group including a male and female singer, who were good, but made conversation a little harder. The parking lot was quite full (it was a Saturday night), and when we made reservations a few days in advance, the options were a little limited, so I'd recommend making reservations as far in advance as you know you're going. The decor inside has been accurately described by other Yelpers, so I won't comment further, but it's comfortable and upscale. Diners were dressed in casual attire for the most part, with men in jeans and long-sleeved collared shirts.More

the meal was good. it is a bit expensive but it was worth it. the service was decent but not spectacular like many reviews. I expected the gratuity to be included on the bill but it was not. we only had a party of three...so maybe is for larger tables. However, I accidentally over tipped because I was planning on tipping a nice percentage on the bill less the tax and three drinks. they present the payment process at the table with suggested Tip amounts (up to 25%) and I there was not a way to tip a custom amount so I ended up tipping slightly more than I wanted on the entire total. not a big deal but something others may want to be aware of. Naan was not as good as I hoped. shrimp tacos and beef sliders were good. cheese plate good but overpriced.More

Came here after seeing reviews. EXCELLENT choice. Wonderful, hip upscale vibe. Live music (on Thursday). I had the seafood paella and a Hemingway daiquiri. Was simply wonderful. Faith the attentive and beautiful server made the experience all the more special. This is a girl with...a killer smile. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!More

We've been meaning to go to this place for some time. Depending on where you start from, it can be interesting getting there. But when we arrived it was a very pleasant surprise. Inside, the decor, although contemporary, was warm and felt comfortable. When you...go, ask for Jimmie for your server. An excellent font of information on both food as well as drink. He's super. The wine list offered quite a range of wines, red and white at different price points. The method by which you review this list is quite innovative and easy to use. I ordered a classic paella. Although it was very delicious overall, the three very tiny clams were not what I was hoping for. And the saffron rice was minimal --- Again, a delicious meal which could be made better. My wife's Halibut was also quite good. However, it was more salty than it should have been. The Caesar was excellent as were the sautéed mushrooms. We will be back !More

Dinner for four (two couples) on a Saturday. Our server, Brittany, was excellent: friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Diners included a vegetarian and three meat eaters. We ordered four small plates for sharing and one large--the lamb, which was amazingly good: incredibly tender. The...accompanying greens were fresh and flavorful. The vegetarian enjoyed the lentils and rice, which he found tasty and nutritious; I found it a bit bland. Aside from the lamb, the big hit was the piquillos, which were out-of-this world delicious. I only wish there were more than three per plate. Maybe next time we'll order two plates! The blistered spicy green beans were indeed spicy and quite good. We also liked the beef kabob, but it was overshadowed by the amazing lamb. Two diners got dessert: chocolate mousse cake, which was good but not exciting, and limocello cake, which was a huge hit. Overall, highly recommended.More

Went with a group of 10. Service was ok. Creepy factor: not our server but another one stood nearby table while we ate and stared at us. Shrimp dish was very spicy, could not eat broth a all. Creme brule was nothing special, and was...luke warm. Will not be returning.More

BOCA is a go to place for time with friends. The restaurant’s decor is amazing and comfortable. Service is professional and consistent. In the beginning the Naan was amazing - for the past 3-4 visits it was inedible (too thick and doughy with no flavor)....Many items (lump crab a favorite) are not available now due to costs associated with the economy and/or COVID, but there are so many wonderful dishes on the menu it will remain on top 5 restaurants in Hickory! homemade soups are amazing!More

Service, environment, & atmosphere was good. Food was so-so, nothing special, & some as disappointing. Went with friends for a 1st-time try, & might be a while before we go back. Wife's shrimp was supposed to be in butter, but was floating in water-like liquid,...seemed more like butter-substitute would be. Paella wasn't worth the try, very disappointing.More

I’m so confused by the 4 1/2 stars. It was just plain disgusting. We had calamari that was bland. Salad that was just ok. Fried lobster that was absolutely disgusting. We sent it back and we never send food back. Sliders that were bland. And...filet that tasted like burnt. It was prepared with gravy that also tasted like burnt and mashed potatoes. Although it was cooked medium it had Absolutely no flavor except burnt. We hunted down a waiter (because ours was gone most of the time) to try and get salt to try and make it better but I still couldn’t eat it. Not being able to eat filet! You know something is wrong. My husband got pecan pie thinking you cant mess that up but…. Nope! Still bland! I had high hopes for this place because of the ratings and the GF menu but we will not be going back. There was nothing we ate that was good.More

The paella was a nasty surprise. Rice, sweet peas, dry chicken, and I think that I recognized canned tuna in the mix. No saffron... I had the impression to eat a mixture of leftovers. A tip of 20% was already included.

I took six guests to Boca for a celebratory dinner. It lived up to my highest expectation. The restaurant is large, spacious and tastefully appointed. We were serenaded by a live musician playing Spanish guitar. His music added meaningfully to the experience. Our table ate...dinner paced in three courses: vegetable tapas, protein tapas and finally paella. The best course was the vegetable tapas. They were delightfully unique and loved by all. Our favorited were: lentils & greens, Brussels sprouts and street corn. The meat tapas were also excellent: beef skewer, shrimp tacos and chicken Tagore. The paella was unremarkable. I expected chunks of the seafood, chicken and chorizo but it looked more like a blended rice casserole. I suspect that they designed the dish for rapid service rather than the classic low and slow method famous in Spain. Boca did not disappoint. I hope for a celebration and they delivered.More

We are passing through town. This place was recommended by a friend. We walked in on a Saturday night at 5:45. We were sat outdoors immediately at our request. We had extremely cordial interactions with the owner/manager and our server. Our 19 month old son...was with us and he loved having the run of the outdoor space. Every guest was extremely patient with his occasional 19 month outbursts. My wife had a delicious albariño and I had a great Rioja while waiting for dinner. A quick order of Anchoas (our favorite tapas from Spain) held us over until the paella and kebab were ready. As the clocked til until midnight on our son’s bedtime, we ordered pots de créme to go with our check. I will not hesitate to eat here again or hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a restaurant. Would love to come and sip wine and enjoy tapas again.More

We requested to sit outside without an appointment and the hostess placed us in a location where there was no shade from the sun, with numerous shaded areas available. Which it happened to be hot that day. After seeing my friend and I sweating and...trying to block the sun, Tony made it his duty to move us to a different table that was shaded. Tony’s empathy displayed a great managerial skill that all managers and staff should posses. On top of that the food was great!! Thanks Tony!More
