We were able to pick up some delicious donuts here during COVID. They were being very careful in only allowing a few people in at a time. They have a nice variety of donuts and rolls, and we were able to bring ours to a table nearby outside along Main St and enjoy our sweets.

We have only been to Hendersonville only twice and on this second trip back, I had been dreaming of trying the AMAZING cheese danish again from this fabulous bakery. The hard workers here are just wonderful, so kind and patient as we gawked at the abundance of baked delights. Absolutely EVERYTHING looks delicious!

My mom, sister, niece and I were returning from a lovely trip to Asheville and I had looked up bakeries, since we don't have much where we are. There was a festival going on outside, so parking was a little difficult, the place was packed with locals and visitors, but it was the BEST stop. There are many, many beautiful glass cases of many different kinds of amazing bakery goodness and they do it all! Not only breads (we tried the salt rising bread, and it does make excellent toast), pastries, cookies, pies, cakes, cupcakes and doughnuts!!! It was fortunate the line was long because it gave us time to peruse the glass cases, write down what we wanted, then not stand like fools once a server was ready because we wanted it all. Everything was wonderful!

You are better off going to any of the Ingles Supermarkets bake shops. The sourdough bread tastes like off the shelf white bread that you can get anywhere. The only reason they are still in business is because they are on Main Street and the tourists like to stop in for a snack. If someone was to open a real old fashioned Italian bakery downtown, McFarlan's would be out of business in a couple of weeks.

My husband and I visited McFarlans Bakery after having many local folks inform us we had to stop by! We are so glad we took their advice. This wonderful bakery has a plentiful variety of cookies, cakes, pies, breads, doughnuts and pastries galore. There is definitely something for everyone!
We ordered a plethora of pastries and a variety of their hand decorated cookies for our children. We will be sure to spread the word about McFarlans and we would definitely visit again next time we are in Hendersonville.

Peanut butter cookies were so tasty - just the right amount of peanut butter taste and sweetness. Whole wheat bread was fresh and at a good price. Service staff were friendly so stopping at this bakery is a delightful experience.

Many wonderful items to choose from and this is the only bakery in the area that I know has salt risin' bread. Wonderful. I would shop there more often except the parking situation isn't good for a senior with mobility issues.

My summer campe use to take us here on a special field trip to the farmers market and now I come here anytime I am in the area. I think this is the best bakery I have ever been to. We use to get the bagels with cream cheese. They are either not doing those anymore or were out the day we went but they did have croissant sandwiches and ours were very delicious. Then my husband and i spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out which cookies to get. We wanted to entire bakery but settled for just 4 cookies and they were all great. I had never had the chinese cookie before and it was so good I would recommend trying it if you haven't had it before. Their iced cookies are also a classic you can't go wrong with.

Recent trip to my husband's hometown; and he talked a lot about 'having' to go to McFarlan's. The bakery is obviously very popular as there were quite a number of people ordering things-- even with the present COVID situation. Everything looked and smelled delicious! There was a vast variety. We ordered a variety of treats. I ate a couple of things when we returned to the car. They were very good. My husband was sneaky when we got home. He took the bag of goodies and I didn't get a chance to try anything else. I recommend a trip to the bakery when in the area.

During a visit to downtown for the vintage market, I noticed people on the streets with donuts that looked wonderful. The bakery was busy but worth the wait. Large variety of treats and I was excited to see a strawberry pie in the case! The donuts and éclair were fresh and delicious. After a day of adventuring, I heated a slice of the strawberry pie - it was better than I could have imagined! Will definitely be back. :)

I was on Main eating lunch nearby and had to try out this old fashion bakery where everything is made from scratch which is rare to find. The smell alone was enticing enough to come inside. After lunch we went inside to buy a few small treats. They had everything you could image from a bakery. If you are looking for an authentic bakery this place is a must for anyone living in the Asheville area of visiting. Historic Hendersonville is a great area to explore.

My husband and I wanted to get a sweet treat from a bakery on the way home to western NC. I googled bakeries and this one had great reviews and had a long history in Hendersonville. I wanted to get a piece of cake or pastry and my husband wanted the same. We got there and the place was very busy. I saw cakes in the case and some of these looked to have had slices cut off of them. I asked the person behind the counter if I could get a piece of cake and she said no, they don't cut slices of cake. I then ordered apple strudel and my husband got a cheese danish and a Bavarian cream doughnut. The apple strudel was not crisp and flakey. It was doughy and limp and I have had better from a local grocery store. Some of the apple filling was strangely sour. My husband said the dollop of cream cheese in the danish was good, but the entire pastry was no better than a prepackaged danish from a gas station and the doughnut was just that, a basic doughnut with cream. Would not go back.

This bakery is a must stop when in Hendersonville!! When you walk in the door, it’s like stepping back in time. They are truly an old fashion bakery. Very large assortment of cookies, pies, cakes, pastries and breads. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We purchased way too many things for two people, but are enjoying the extra sweet treats

We arrived 15 minutes before closing on a Wednesday. There were about 9 people in there. The staff behind the counter were exceptionally helpful and courteous. The selection had been reduced since it was at the end of their day, but what we chose was fantastic! The whole wheat sour dough bread is a must! We ate half the loaf that night and probably would have ate it all if not for all the other items we picked up. We also picked up a loaf of the pumpernickel rye bread which was fantastic. The blueberry crumple pie and the Boston cream cake were wonderful additions along with an assortment of other pastries. We spent $66 wondering how we are ever going to eat all the we purchased. But we did and shared with our neighbors. Well worth every cent we spent! We were even considering driving the 2 hours one way to get another loaf of the whole wheat sour dough bread by the weekend. We will be back!

I usually do not write reviews, but I must say McFarlan's Bakery is the best bakery I have ever been to, year after year. My wife & I just returned from our leaf peeping adventure to the N. C. mountains. We left Folly Beach S.C. early in the a.m. to indulge on their scrumptious cinnamon rolls and boston creme doughnuts. We then went back in after eating them on the Main Street tables outside and purchase some more goodies to eat for the next 2 days of leaf looking. On the way home Saturday, I purchased another dozen & one half of cinnamon rolls to put in the freezer. We also purchased some more bakery items to eat . We are back at Folly now, but will be able to remember our trip as eat the delicious cinnamon rolls in the next few months and remember our trip. They freeze great in the freezer. We have been making this a tradition for over 40 years now!! Thanks McFarlan's. The service is as great as the bakery items.
