Traveling with our RV and stopped for the night at the Elkin Walmart. Amalfi’s is a short walk from the parking lot. Called ahead for pickup, was ready promptly. Sandwiches and wings, very good and reasonably priced.
We ran across this place while visiting the Dollar Tree in the same plaza. It was very small (only a few tables), but seemed to be doing a brisk carry-out business. After picking up a menu and noting the very reasonable prices, we decided to...come back later and pick up dinners to eat on our hotel's patio. The chicken and eggplant parmigiana entrees were generously sized and came with salad and spaghetti as well. Everything was tasty and fresh. This coupled with a local wine purchased during a wine tasting earlier made for a great dinner. My only complaint was they were out of veal, so I could not try the veal parmigiana.More
This pizza is basically the same standard recipe they have in the NY / Northern NJ area. It is the thin crust type that has the inside center flop straight down when you pick up a slice! You have to take your finger and flop...it back on top of the slice to take a bite. The olive oil might need to be dabbed off with a napkin for those who are new to this type of pizza. Those of us who were brought up eating this pizza know how to turn the slice on it's side and let it drain onto the paper plate.
The taste is remarkably similar to what I remember from years and years ago, and the crust is done exactly the way it should be. I LOVE THIS PIZZA!
For those of you who have a palate geared more towards the cheap ingredient pizza franchises, or think deep dish is king because it stuffs you with bread, be prepared for a new experience. If you expect it to be what you are used to, then you need to open your mind before ordering. Try a plain cheese pie (or extra cheese) and DON'T cover it with toppings - enjoy the real flavor of real pizza that was the original and started it all.
This is all I have ever ordered there and it was take-out, so this is what I am basing my review on.More
I am a self admitted pizza snob. I was truly impressed with this pizza being in such a small town. Nice crunchy crust and cheesy top. Similar to New York Style. Had take out so I have no review on the staff or atmosphere.
Staff is friendly as always. grest food selection and they have daily lunch specials. I had the meatball sub and it was amazing. Amalfis is a little hidden gem in this town and well worth the visit, local or traveling.
Was not sure that I would eat at Amalfi's again after the last time I ate there, but I decided to give it another try. Everything was much better today. Very clean compared to last time (tables) and did not have to wait as long...though I think they could give drinks at order counter instead of having you wait. Service was good.
I had something I had been wanting to try-grilled chicken cashew salad- but without the sundried tomato dressing. Excellent, I would easily get this again. I mainly like grilled chicken ceasar salads but they don have those there. I now have another salad that I enjoy. It was lettuce, grilled chicken, cranberries, pineapple, and cashews. I look forward to getting this salad again.More
