I had lunch here several times and every time the food is great, the service is spectacular, and everything comes out quick and at the right temperature. Never a complaint. Highly recommended.

Eat breakfast here often and enjoy reliable food and service. Try the shrimp and grits or Classic Breakfast, never disappoints.

I’ve been to the Colonial Cafe several times now and the food is always great. You can enjoy a nice breakfast in the morning or plenty of fresh homemade meals for lunch. My favorite is the She Crab soup which is always great. Staff is...very friendly and attentive. Enjoy!More

I stumbled upon a gem today. My husband and I were looking for a place to eat close to ELIZABETH City State University. While walking around downtown Elizabeth City we stumbled on Colonial Cafe on Colonial Ave. It was a short wait time. The staff...were friendly and welcoming. And the food was really good. Prices are very reasonable. My family now has a new favorite spot in our new home away from home.More

It is with much sadness that one our famous, home cooking restaurants has closed. This establishment has been here more years than I could remember. Hopefully someone will take over this local downtown restaurant.

Stopped here with my son after a orthodontist appointment. There is a special place in my heart for diner food since I'm from the diner capital of the world...jersey. Typical diner food here. Nothing outstanding, just the norm.

Service was friendly and very quick. The food has a good home cooked taste about it. If you want a tasty meal but without a lot of extras and frills, this is an excellent place. It's very clean but not fancy. Food is excellent!

Oldest in town not saying a great deal since most of chain restaurants have run most mom and pop's out of town. I remember this in my childhood living there, the dated decor has not changed, this is for the older generation. Very rare you'd...see someone under 35 in here. Service food delivery was painfully slow, an simple BLT and open faced turkey sandwich took 45 minutes on a quiet visit. Owner was kind of gruff once we sat down. I had my service dog with me, plainly vested as such, barely sat down and he ran over NOT to greet us but to scrutinize my service dog, to make sure it was such, saying I wanted to make sure it was a service dog. Give me break, you'd think after all these years I'm that inconsiderate. Other wait staff were friendly. Menu is dated, it had pimento cheese on menu, but nope they didn't have it. Come on it's a simple recipe!More

Ate here with my family May 8th, 2017. We had a good waitress and received good service. The food was pretty good. It has been open many years and has had different owners. I enjoyed my food. Nothing spectacular, but it's a nice little lunch...spot.More

We come here for lunch with family. There is always fresh homemade meals which are reasonably priced and filling. Their is usually 1-2 servers. It's friendly and local. There is always homemade desserts. Their pies are good. The service can be a little slow but...the food comes out fast. This is nice little local diner which is tucked away at the corner in the old town so can be easily missed on the main road. You pay at the front at the door on your way out.More
