We moved away and I always missed this place. The Jerk chicken is the BEST you'll ever have, and the curry goat is to die for. I highly recommend the beef patties, legendary mac and cheese, collards, cabbage and fried plantains. I would recommend ordering takeout and allowing at least 30 minutes to prepare you food.

There was a good choice of food T the buffet but nothing was labeled as to what it was. Being a Caribbean and Jamaican specialty eatery, we would have appreciated knowing what some of the choices were. They took a long time to bro g put my burger and fries.

The food at the Island Breeze Grill is distinctive and delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The picture shown is the old location, they have moved and are located in downtown EC now.

My husband and I dined for lunch on a Friday. We went for the $9.99 buffet although the restaurant has a menu with something for everyone, sort of southern/Caribbean fusion. The menu includes such things as meatloaf, jerk chicken, and oxtails. The buffet was a bargain for the money and everything was tasty. Entrées for the day were curried chicken and potatoes, chili, turkey legs and, apparently, a pork dish. Side dishes were carrot soufflé, excellent macaroni and cheese and a rice dish. There was also a small salad bar with fresh fruit including strawberries, and homemade cake. I had the best pineapple upside down cake I have ever eaten, and that is my favorite cake! There is a larger buffet on Sundays for $15.99. The restaurant was very clean and well decorated with bright paintings of Caribbean life, making for a great atmosphere. Service was prompt and friendly. There is a small bar area. The restaurant is located close to the waterfront and parking is available on the street in front of the restaurant. This is a gem waiting to be discovered! I can’t wait to go back!

Finally found a seafood dish that should have been bronzed!! The red snapper was prepared with the intent to satisfy the eater for sure with red peppers and red onions, cabbage may have been taken from my mother's pot...that's under investigation LOL!! The beans and rice dish was authentically Caribbean. Ms. Doris knows how to lay down the flavors...keep it up 👍🏽. Don't waste your time or money and get right over to Island Breeze Grill. Enjoy and add your review to prove my taste buds accurate 🙏🏽.

Miss Julie and I recently found ourselves in Elizabeth City on shopping day visiting a number of stores around town. Shopping complete, I asked her if she would like to have lunch, an offer thats rarely refused since we get off the farm infrequently. Would you like a steak and cheese sandwich? No. Burgers, no. Seafood, no. Hmm. I understand that there is a Carribbean place in old downtown near the waterfront. BINGO! I wasn't exactly certain where in downtown the place was located or the hours, but figured we could find it, the old downtown area isn't that large. So we drove through a couple of blocks then parked on the street (free parking btw) and walked. Of course, being clueless, I had no idea where I was going so I stopped a young mom and daughter on the sidewalk and solicited directions. As luck would have it, Poindexter Street was to our immediate left and at the opposite end of the block was the Island Breeze Grill. We walked the short block and since there was on street parking (again free!) in front of the Grill we moved the car over there and went in. I should preface this with the time, it was probably 215 and I think they shut down for lunch around 230 or three. The Island Breeze Grill wasn't crowed in fact there may have been only three of four other tables occupied at that time. We were greated with a smile and seated promptly. Both our servers (they were using the team method) were super friendly and helpful. We looked over the menu (I was surprised there was no pork dishes) and both decided on the buffet (I know, I know, but we were hungry and wanted to sample a variety of dishes). Turned out to be a good choice. At about $11 each, we had a variety of protien choices, all chicken but all different. A very nice chili that was at the same time sweet and spicy (really good). a variety of veggie and rice dishes. There was also a salad bar, a fruit bar and a desert bar. For $11 bucks! Now I'm of the opinion that I don't care how inexpensive a buffet is or how much you can eat if what your eating is of poor quality. That is definately NOT the case here. Everything was great. Even though late in the lunch service, there was plenty of food on the buffet, and it was still warm and fresh. Everything was very tasty. We both had ice tea with lunch (I was driving). They do have beer on the menue, even Red Stripe, an island beer. If I was disappointed in anything, it was that I did not notice any microbrew on their beer list, especially given the number of quality NC brews available these days. If we made any mistakes with our menue choices it was that somewhat late in our meal we ordered a side dish of plantains. When they arrived, we were surprised at the size (huge), we sampled a few (they were excellent) and asked for a to-go box. (We were full up from the buffet.) We used the plantains for a dinner side dish at home the next evening. So what's my recommendation? Go, visit, try the Island Breeze. It's only a couple of minutes from the main shopping areas of Elizabeth City. The area was safe, parking was on street and free. Service was prompt, servers were friendly and helpful. The Grill interior was clean and pleasant. They have a ala- carte items as well as the buffet. Food quality, quantity, variety and taste was very good. Price to value was also very good. I give the Island Breeze Grill an overall 4 out of 5 and a definate recommendation as a return to venue. We'll be back and I advise you to put it on your list of alternatives to the chain eateries. Take the opportunity to support old downtowns and independent small businessmen and women while enjoying a great meal at a good price.

Someone would expect a tacky, beach rip-off joint from the name of the restaurant (and the neighborhood). But it's clean, appropriately decorated for a Caribbean restaurant, along with soft reggae music. Most importantly, the food is authentic and quite delicious. Not blisteringly spicy. Other reviewers note the menu items. The buffet is $10 and includes salad bar and dessert plates. Neither of those is anything to rave about. The service is quietly friendly and efficient. Lunch is steady rather than zoo-y. Highly recommend as a hole-in-the-wall undiscovered treasure.

We met for lunch and ate off the buffet which was very good with curried chicken, grilled chicken, and pork. The cooked cabbage was very good as well as the yams. I will have to say the service leaves a lot to be desired but she was a nice girl.

Awesome lunch buffet. Come hungry. Full bar and the employees like the food. Lots of spice (big flavor, not too hot), chicken, beef, goat. Amazing vegetables and sauces. Desserts are authentic and unusual. Have come back more than once.

First, those photos from 2012 and 2013 are old. The restaurant is now in a hip, new downtown location, walkable from the harbor, the art museum, the waterfront park, and downtown shopping. Second, once you are there, the service is very friendly and the food is great. The jerk chicken was very good and came with delicious sides. I was there for dinner and I would definitely bring friends here.

Based on other reviews, dropped by Island Breeze Grill while vacationing in Elizabeth City. Very quiet weekday in November, so parking was easy and the restaurant was uncrowded. Nice décor inside and can watch people working out in a gym across the street. Only single wait staff, very polite and attentive. Ordered the fried tilapia, then waited... and waited. Perhaps because everything is made fresh. Fish was lightly battered & fried and was tasty. Server forgot tartar sauce but remembered & quickly dropped off a small container. The sides of rice & beans and cole slaw were OK and ample in size, served in small separate bowls. A good meal but would likely sample a different restaurant next time I'm in town.
