I had higher expectations.

Portions are not huge, rather standard for a dinner. Not all options were available for the dishes we chose from the menu. City Grille burger was the best of the three plates tasted. Juicy, well prepared and well assembled was delicious. The BBQ sandwich came with a side of cole slaw, well prepared and tasty. However, there were more to wish about the sandwich BBQ content. Almost tasteless and far from a great one but decent no complaints. Last, I tasted the gyro plate. I thought this was a Greek owned restaurant but the gyro plate was bad and not even close to a gyro sandwich. The tzatziki was horrible, some watery version of sour cream with traces of cucumber. The meat was thrown partially out of the plate and the taste was blunt. Poor choice. The worst of all was the appetizer, fried calamari. The calamaris were over fried, dark brown in color, no taste and it came with a blunt tomato sauce. For the price was a small portion and poorly prepared. Overall, the food was average and more it was expected. The store was rather clean, however the carpet was so dirty that you could see all kind of stains including vomit. Expect from my company anyone else in the store was over 70y, it looked like an old folks favorite. In the entrance there were too many people waiting for orders or to be seated when the restaurant looked rather empty inside. The service was ok although we did not given the opportunity to follow up in our order about side dishes, dessert or drinks. A decent place to eat but my high expectations based on previous reviews were shuttered.

Food is decent, prices are cheaper than most restaurants around here because the portions are big, service is great, and they have a big menu - italian, american, greek, pork, beef, turkey, veal, chicken, etc. I love the chicken tenders the best and the stir fry. The bacon cheese skins are great too. Desserts are good. Parking lot is big.

Celebration for the purchase of a new Chevy truck

The owner of the new truck had the half rack of ribs, his wife had fried Talipa with fries and fried okra. My husband had the cheese burger also with fried okra and I had the grilled talipa sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Everything was delicious...with such big portions. Had to get take out containers for all our leftovers. First time for Hubby and I but we surely will be back. Great waitress.

Dirty place and the owner is crazy!

I just had the WORST experience at The City Grille! I took my kids there for lunch, we ordered a soda and two hot chocolates. The ice had slime on the surface of my drink (like the dirty soda machine slime) and my kids “hot chocolate” was warm chocolate milk. At this point I asked our waitress to cancel our food order we need to pay for our drinks and leave. She then gave me an attitude saying she would have to pay for the order if I don’t. Obviously I didn’t want that, so I asked for a manager/owner. The owner(?) came out angry and said why don’t I want my food, I said we want to pay for our drinks but we won’t be eating their food, I’m sorry but we need to go. He then started YELLING at me in front of my kids! I said I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at and left. This man CHASED me and my kids out to the parking lot yelling! I called my husband on the phone because this is scary at this point! We left and the cops ended up calling us (laughing at how ridiculous this owner is) and asked us to pay the $3.17 for our drinks like I tried to before we even left.

Owner is the rude and unprofessional

Food is usually good but the owner is rude and disrespectful to his customers and his emplooyees. Three Items where brought to the table under cooked, I asked to speak to the manager and when he did come to the table; I explained what was wrong he simply ask if I was done with my demands and walked away. when I went to pay the bill he called me an a__hole, I said he was the one being an a__hole at the table and his response was your a b___h just pay your bill. If I hadn't been there to stop him my son would have beat his a__.

The locals seem to love it

Friendly staff. Food….just ok. The description of the appetizer onion rings said “thick cut of fresh made onion rings beer battered to perfection and fried golden”. They were FROZEN onion rings with minced onion inside. Burger was edible. Spaghetti sauce tasted like it had been cooked AWHILE!! Really disappointed about those onion rings.

Good service, mediocre food

Convenient location to meet family for lunch. Not too busy, plenty of parking and prompt seating. The service was very good and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food quality, however, was disappointing. The fried flounder was prepared well, but tasted frozen. The cheeseburger was average. The bun and toppings were good, but the hamburger patty looked (perfectly round) and tasted frozen. The meatball sub was just ok. The bread was great, there was plenty of melted cheese and the sauce was tasty. However, the meatballs tasted like they had been sitting out a while, and were probably frozen. The biggest problem is they were not warm. It seemed like they were sitting out, or maybe refrigerated and just topped with the heated sauce. The club sandwich (how can you mess up a club sandwich), was one of the worst I ever tasted. The bread was prepared well, but the ham and turkey did not taste good and the tomato was awful. There was no Mayo added to the sandwich when prepared, so had to dip it while eating. I love club sandwiches, but would NEVER order one here!!! Even the chocolate merengue pie was FROZEN. It tasted like a fudgecicle, with merengue. Maybe it thaws out by dinner?? Again, the service was very good, I did not expect fine dining, but for the prices, I expected a higher quality product.

Bad food

This restaraunt is bad. Took my family today and got a tip of a rubber glove in my greek salad! My wife got chicken solvaki and it was brown rice with dried chicken pieces with black grill grease all over it. They were gracious enough to give me a new greek salad to go with brown lettuce! It used to be pretty good! Don't waste your time, it's bad, I will never go back there and neither will my neighbors, friends and especially family!

Healthy dinner

Friendly atmosphere, excellent meal- home cooking at it's finest! The meatloaf serving was huge, so we split a portion & the side salad w/ Greek dressing was fresh & tasty! Many fresh items to choose from.

Ample portions and good prices

Over the past 4 years of visiting Elizabeth City, I have eaten at the City Grille several times. Our volleyball team (27 of us) even ate here during playoffs a couple years ago. I have never been disappointed in the food nor prices. Getting seated is sometimes a little lackluster in effort. But, once you're seated, the wait staff is excellent. The food portions are ample and the taste is delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to go back anytime we are visiting EC in the future.

Good Food!

City Grill is a very good family friendly restaurant with plenty of seating. They can accommodate for handicapped and small children. City Grill serves very large portions. City Grill has a huge selection of wonderful desserts. You will not leave hungry!

This is a very good restaurant

This is a very good restaurant in Elizabeth City! I was very impressed with the COVID social distancing measures that the establishment has implemented. This restaurant was very clean. This is not a fast food restaurant. The food was delicious and the portions are huge. The service is very good. Don’t leave with out trying something from the dessert menu.
