After a two hour drive for an hour and a half soccer game we were rewarded with a fabulous culinary experience at Southern Maid Donuts. We were warmly welcomed by the delightful owners and we're given a choice of yeast or cake donuts with a great variety of toppings. Everything is made fresh on the premises and it tastes like it. It would be hard to say we had one favorite since we immensely enjoyed the following yeast donuts: Maple Bacon, Key Lime (better than the pie-wonderful natural, fresh flavor), Coconut, and our son liked his iced with sprinkles as well as an iced with Fruity Pebbles cereal. We ate some donuts there and took some home as well in order to savor this experience longer. The visit was enhanced by our lovely conversation with the owners, who are fine and generous individuals. If in Elizabeth City then this is a stop that can not be missed. You will be so glad to support this extremely well priced small local business. It is the best!

The apple fritters are amazing! After finishing a 100 mile bicycle ride, my wife was rewarding me with our first trip to Southern Maid. We arrived 20 minutes before closing, only to be met with a "Closed" sign. As we turned away, the manager stepped out of the kitchen and explained they were completely SOLD OUT for the day. Then, when my wife expressed her disappointment that my "prize" for finishing would be for nought, he asked us to wait and stepped back in and brought us a box of 3 apple fritters he planned to take home. No charge, just a tremendous act of humanity. We will definitely visit again and if the apple fritters (which happen to be my favorite) are any indication, everything here will be awesome.

All donuts, buns and fritters made in site. Excellent fritters - very fresh and tasty! Highly highly recommended for fresh baked goods.

Yummy fresh made donuts, some with fillings and toppings upon request and an excellent location if you are there for your child’s ball game. Now here’s the down side. No mandated mask protocol followed by staff at all and no sign requiring customers to be masked if entering. Only 2 of the 4 employees were wearing gloves as they served food. There was adequate outside seating but no trash can outside to dispose of cups, boxes or napkins. The restroom is accessed by requesting a key (like bygone gas station days), but beware, knock first, as this restroom is also the staff restroom, which they access from another door inside the establishment. Could have been an embarrassing situation.

Very bland, boring and nothing that made it stand out. Better donuts at food lion. Save your taste buds for duck donuts

Family owned fresh homemade donuts and great coffee. They have wonderful donuts and served with a smile. Much better than the chain deals and you can’t go wrong with these delights. Enjoy

This place is a family owned donut shop that serves both cake & yeast donuts to please all palates. I've visited twice this month and each time I've been greeted warmly. On the first visit, she let my husband try a donut for free once he admitted he was a huge Krispy Kreme fan. He was immediately won over. They've got several varieties and seem to serve a few specialties each day.
