Passing through Elizabeth City my husband and I randomly stopped here and it was so worth it. At first I was a little weirded out by the crab cake toppings but it was delicious!! The Turkey melt was very good as well and I loved...the fry dusting. The bathroom may have been the cutest restaurant bathroom I've ever been in. You've got to try this place!More

I’ll start by saying it was busy when we arrived and that was taking a toll on the staff. The service was slow. I will also refute that by saying the staff was attentive and gave great advice on food choices and they were quick...to advertise the special: it was amazing! The dessert was also very good. So, long story short, it wasn’t their fault, but I would eat here again, no question.More

We ate dinner here and as soon as we were seated, we were told there were only three working burners in the kitchen and to expect our dinner to take a while. It did take a while and when we received our dinner it was...quite pathetic looking. I had ordered the special of the day, fried soft shell crab, for $19. I received a piece of crab with a small container (the size ketchup is typically served in) with coleslaw. No other sides, salad, etc. after an hour, the waitress who we thought had disappeared, came back and realized I was supposed to get fries and gave me a salad to go. It was all really quite sad. At the most, my dinner looked like an appetizer and the price was shocking.More

I sat at the bar and ordered a beet salad with shrimp, and a side of potato salad. The bartender was very busy, so I don't fault him, but it took over 25 minutes to get my salad. I asked for a take out box...because I had to get back to work, which he promptly brought. I'm sitting at my desk eating my salad, and it's underwhelming. They used golden beets, and a very small amount at that. Golden beets don't have the same flavor as the regular red ones; they should switch. There's only red onion, lettuce, a few pepitas, and some beets on the salad. I don't see any goat cheese. It's tossed in very little dressing. I'm glad I ordered the potato salad, otherwise I would still be hungry. I'll give them another shot later. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years, and we all have bad days. I'll give them another shotMore

Had just driven into town, hungry but wanted a nice lunch, not fast food but not fussy either. Drove around downtown and spotten a small terrace (I didn't want to eat inside during covid) and the name was clever so checked it out. The Trip...Advisor recommendation on the door sealed the deal. Lunch was delicious (my first clam roll in years and it was just right plus homemade potato salad), reasonable price, and the service was very good. Recommend it highly.More

Great food. Local beer. Atmosphere! I got the Pimento Cheese Fries and a glass of Ghost Harbor IPA to kill 45mins downtown and I'm so glad that I stopped in here! The food was excellent (everything coming out of the kitchen looked AMAZING) and the...staff were super friendly and helpful! I sat at the bar this time but next time I'll take advantage of the quaint outdoor seating area!More

We love places like this, a hole in the wall in downtown Elizabeth City, NC.. Great service, great ambiance, and great food. My wife's turkey melt was fabulous, and my crabcake sandwich was even better. And get the sweet potato fries with apple butter.

Thank goodness Hoppin' Johnz is open on Saturday at lunchtime, most of the other downtown eateries were closed at this time. We have been in town several times in the past, but with the new CoVid mentality, finding something that isn't fast food or a...national chain can be difficult. The restaurant looked great. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and "on-point". Food was well prepared, tasty, and served timely although the restaurant was busy. We sat at the bar, and our bartender was friendly and cordial. Everyone was respecting the social distancing rules, and wearing their masks when appropriate, so that was never a concern.More
