My husband and I made reservations while on business in North Carolina. It was the week of our anniversary and when we made the reservation they asked us if there was any special occasion. We told them it was our 26th wedding anniversary and were...extremely surprised to see they had set up a table especially for us with congratulatory balloons, a hand written card and a video cassette explaining the history of the 51 house. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the amazing welcoming you receive from the ENTIRE staff, as well as the beautiful charm of this building . But it doesn’t end there. The food and drink menus are beyond pretty much anywhere we’ve been thus far. Cannot say enough about this restaurant. It is an absolute must! We will be going back to North Carolina in a couple of months, and will absolutely be making another reservation. Suggest you do the same! The name of this restaurant is dedicated to the 51 women who stood for their rights amidst oppression and actually signed their names to petitions, unlike the Boston tea party, where individuals anonymously revolted. What a way to honor courage!More

We had a great meal. Service was friendly and efficient. The salmon was cooked to perfection. Good selection of beer and nice cocktail menu. The pumpkin "biscuit," provided as a per-appetizer warm-up, was fantastic. Super nice facility with fantastic views of the water.

Went there for Valentine's Day dinner. Best meal, filet mignon and shrimp, I've had. Total meal was a pleasure. Staff was polite and courteous. Whole experience was outstanding. Restaurant appearance is ideal.

We can always look forward to a great meal at the 51 House. The Lamb Rack of Ribs and Filet w/Shrimp were both perfectly prepared. We will be going back!

I had eaten there on a prior occasion and was looking forward to their prime rib. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were ignored by the staff and the owner. Despite the restaurant being almost empty they made us wait about 40 minutes...in the foyer before they seated us. Our waitress turned out to be the bartender, although we were not seated anywhere near the bar. She had all the skills of an 8 year old as a waitress. After taking our order and bringing us our tea, she returned only once during the remaining 45 minutes we were there. We had to ask another waitress for the sweet potato biscuits. The bartender/waitress and the owner were rude and focused on only one thing, the party upstairs. Having been there 90 minutes and still not receiving our main course we decided to leave. Of course they charged us for it. They will never see me again and I can not possibly recommend this place. PS, a friend of mine asked me recently if I had eaten there lately and after sharing this with him, he told me that that same thing had happened to several of his friends, including a major business in Edenton. Your mileage may vary but you've been warned!More

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday brunch while on a weekend getaway to Edenton. The 51 House is a restaurant/event/wedding venue located on a point in the Wharf Landing area of Edenton. We were greeted by an owner, and staff and service was friendly and gracious...( I wouldn’t expect anything else in Edenton!). The food was delicious and beautifully presented ( sorry, no photos), and it was evident that the owners and management had paid real attention to detail, from the lovely decor that combined the historic elements of Edenton with a more contemporary vibe in little touches. I was impressed with the marketing piece found on each table. Open the little red book to find a video ( volume could be adjusted) promoting the 51 House as an event venue. We hope to return for dinner during another visit.More

We recently arranged for a special dinner for my father.....his 90th birthday! It was a great celebration from the very start. I contacted the owner, Rose, and she got back to me immediately with lots of suggestions and ideas on how to make it a...great night. From making a special menu for our group of 25 to answering my many emails and providing balloons and special birthday desert for the birthday boy! We had our own private room right on the water and Rose allowed us to decorate the tables ourselves with art pieces handmade by my father. The food was delicious! We dined on their house signature dish, Prime Rib, Shrimp Scampi, Chicken Parmesan, Salmon and The 51House burger.......ALL were greatly enjoyed. Both the owner and manager were on board for our event as well as several servers. So we really felt like they paid us much attention. 25 entrees are a LOT to prepare and serve at one time and we really appreciated all the hard work that they put into the evening. A beautiful venue for any special occasion! Many thanks to Rose and her manager, Kelly. We will return when in Edenton next time.More
