This was our first visit and we went as a six person three generation family. It was an interesting experience. We filled out our checklist from the menu as two groups: Husband and I; daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters. They had been several times before and...really liked it. All of the items we ordered were delivered hot and tasty. It was fun trying many unusual items. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy, but not uncomfortably so. We will definitely go again.More

I’m hearing what some of the other posters said below in not being allowed to order the second round, but that was not the case for us. We came on a Saturday, and although it was very busy when we arrived, by the time we...left, it really settled down. We did have to flag somebody down for a second order, and although they did not tell us “no”, they certainly were not smiling about it. I’ve had dim sum in lots of places, having lived in San Francisco and in Boston for many years, and overall this is good, but it did not feel like it was fabulous. Sometimes, in other places, the dim sum arrives hot and steamy, and this did not seem to be the case here. They also did not have as many elements on the menu as other places. Although their menu looked extensive, there were still some things that I have ordered in past places that I did not see. Also, on the weekend, I usually expect a cart coming around, and that did not seem to happen, although they did have carts that they brought when your food arrived, so why not have them circulating? They have the little checkbox menus in place, so they could circulate the carts, and then just check off what you got easily. All that said, we will certainly come again. It was quick, and the variety was good, and overall things were tasty. I’m also not expecting Chinatown quality dim sum in places outside of large cities that don’t have a Chinatown.More

Wanted to try dim sum while in Durham/Chapel Hill area. This place was ok but having lived in the NY tristate area with best dim sum, the food can't be compared. Though the dum sum tasted fine, the dishes were small. We wonder if the...har gow was from frozen. Peanut noodle was not good. The best dish we had was their handmade fried dumplings. Definitely would go back for that.More

We were told it was a 15-20 min wait for a table. She told us to wait outside and she would call on our cell phone. We stood just outside the restaurant waiting. At 20 min, a group walked up and said they were not...really sure they would get a table after seeing how crowded the place was. The hostess came and took this party before us. They were seated with a 1-2 min wait. They had the same number of people and obviously had no reservation, but she seemed to know them. When I asked her about it, she said she "did not know" but was busy right now. We left. We kept checking the phone for the call from her...never came.More

I have never been here, was an interesting visit. Food brought to your table in little Carts, they display and answer questions about each item. Our server Frank was very informative and patient. We especially enjoyed the great selection and variety of foods, steamed ,...fried, specially prepared. Favorite was Duck and steamed shrimp dumplings. Service was great, drinks were good. Well lit and easy parking, will definitely be back.More

This is our third attempt in locating a decent dim sum restaurant. Glad we didn't give up because I believe this place to have the best dim sum in the triangle area...so far. We had their dumpling, siomai, pork bun, chinese broccoli and fried rice....All very fresh and flavorful. We were disappointed to find out they serve egg tarts only on weekends. A very good reason to pay another visit.More

We were just there for Dim Sum on a Sunday lunch. The place was packed with Asians, which was a good sign. People with more than 2 people had to wait, but since there were just the 2 of us, we were seated right away....The food was authentic and very tasty. It was probably one of the best dim sum meals I’ve had, and that is a lot coming from a Chinese who has eaten dim sum all his life. You must go here if you get the chance!More

This restaurant used to be our go to for take out Chinese until the couple sold out to another group a number of months ago. Since then it had been transformed into the best dim sum restaurant in the Triangle. The food is incredible. I...grew up in San Francisco and this food rivals the best dim sum I’ve had there. On Saturday and Sunday lunches they have carts with numerous dim sum dishes that you can choose from. For novices this is great because you can see and select what looks good. The rest of the week you will need to order off the menu. Either way, you can’t go wrong with the food at East Coast Asian Bistro.More

Dim Sum Bistro is in the unassuming Greenwood Commons Shopping Center on Highway 55. When I walked in, I was really pleasantly surprised. The inside is really very nice. It is a relatively small space, but the high ceiling makes the whole place quite airy....They were pushing around carts with lots of dim sum offering, so it all felt authentic. And the servers were incredibly nice and friendly. It was also reassuring to see that more than half the customers were of Asian origin. But I thought the food was only so-so. We may not have ordered the right things, but we tried quite a few different items. Even some of the items that I've had before I didn't think were done as well as they might be. There were a few things I thought were quite good, a couple of items I didn't care for at all, and several that were fine, but I have had better versions of those. Sometimes I thought the texture wasn't good, other times the item was bland, and yet other times I thought there was too much bun ratio to filling. My only comparison is to dim sum places in San Francisco, and while this place is good, it falls far short of the SF experience. On the other hand, the price is extremely reasonable. We ordered at least 10 items and the bill was about $60. I would definitely give Dim Sum Asian Bistro another try -- I am not really wanting to write a negative review because the overall experience was good but the food didn't stand out.More

We were lucky to visit this dim sum restaurant whilst we visited family in America. It came as a real surprise as trolleys which are loaded with freshly cooked dim sum are pushed round the restaurant and you choose those you fancy. We were spoilt...as our daughter in law is Chinese and knew what to select (and what they all were). It was chop sticks only but the choice is wide from stuffed steam buns to dumplings to prawns in spinach to spare ribs. An real busy atmosphere with a real cosmopolitan mix. It really is Chinese Tapas.More

The name (name only and not owner or manager) has recently been changed to Dim Sum Asian Bistro. We went the first for Sunday brunch with another couple. There were only 3 empty tables when we went in and my wife & I were the...only non-Asians in the place. Good sign. They serve Dim Sum the traditional way on Saturday & Sunday brunch. Carts loaded with Dim Sum go thru the dining area and you chose what you want. Everything is hot from the kitchen. We sampled 8 different items and they were all excellent. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Those handling the carts would explain what they had and answer any questions we had. prices are very reasonable. I have eaten in a number of other Dim Sum restaurants in the area and this one just became my favorite. The rest of the week they have a traditional Chinese Menu and you can order Dim Sum but only the steamed ones.More

My wife and I decided to have a late lunch, and wanted something a bit different. Different as in location not the type of cuisine. Not knowing more than what we got from their website (looked okay) we chose THE EAST COAST. Upon entering we...noticed that we were the only dinners. (YIKES), not cool?!? Looking over the menu which was limited, with lots of tiny pictures (very unappetizing) and unreadable (type was smaller). We thought we should just leave. However, we just couldn't. It would not be very polite. So................we ordered what was somewhat familiar and hoped for the best. Well, our waitress was very polite and attentive, however that doesn't a good meal make. We were very disappointed and concluded that this was not a place to revisit in the future. Sorry East Coast.pMore
