This joint is small and jammed packed! Hard to sit at the bar and be not crammed, but there is a reason why...the burgers and tots are fantastic! Cheap beer and a lot of "eclectic" atmosphere. Supreme this place isn't rated higher, but Durham is a haven for exceptional restaurants!

Having just moved from Durham to Philadelphia, we went here on my last night for cheeseburgers. Despite all the burger places around town this is still my go-to place for a great cheeseburger. They also have a ton of American beer on tap and in bottles.

So...I gave Dain's a decent rating despite not being able to customize my burger patty. This time I decided to go for a chicken sandwich. Tots are still deliciously crispy and plentiful. However, my chicken sandwich was so lame they should be ashamed to even serve it. The chicken patty was thinner than the bun. So thin I questioned if... More

Small local hang out just off Duke University campus. We visited while touring the school with my daughter. Met some local friends and enjoyed great burgers and appetizers. Reasonably priced and very casual atmosphere. Think neighborhood pub hangout.

Ok, so if you're not comfortable with a couple grades-above a college bar, then this may not be up your alley. Place is a bit dark, loud, etc., but I'd say don't be discouraged. The beer selection including local was really good, service and friendliness of the bar-staff was great, and the burger I ordered was delicious. And to have... More

Nice burger with delicious crispy tots. They will do half fries half tots if you can't choose. I would have preferred my burger on the rare side and was not given this option. Overall, though, not a bad joint if you've got a hankerin for a burger.

Have been to Dain's place before just for one of their great local craft beer's but this time had a hamburger with tots. It was great. The burger was cooked perfectly on a good bun with just the right amount of cheese and the tots were cooked to perfection. Of course on of their wide selection of great local craft... More

I wanted to try someplace new in Durham. While walking down 9th Street, I asked a guy who appeared to be a local for a lunch spot recommendation. He asked what we were looking for and I told him:Low key, laid back, good food with decent beer selection. He immediately suggested Dain's and it was all of the above and... More

Like the tv show Cheers, Dain's is a neighborhood bar and grill that give you that feel, like you belong here. The food and beer is fantastic. The staff is always spot on. My wife and I have been there many times. Go early and beat the Duke students.

Our midday visit found good burgers and a very good server. The burgers were well done but still juicy. I ordered blue cheese and my wife had American. The homemade bun was truly the hero. They advertise an "8 oz." burger but, having been raised in a family burger joint and a frequent burger eater, they looked closer to 6... More
