Not only do they serve some excellent entrees, they also offer quite the history lesson.
Obviously you can't go wrong with the location, there is not a bad seat in the house. This establishment has retained it original identity since becoming a life saving station...for the coast. Decorated with historical artifacts, they offer plenty of seating and a bar, but I would highly recommend making reservations, especially for dinner!.
The outer banks breakfast offers an excellent variety and I even enjoyed the fresh fruit! They also have an excellent Caesar salad and filet Mignon, I even found dinner here to be much better than the highly rated restaurants down the street. They did seem a bit short staffed so I would make that assumption if your planning on visiting.
Not maintained. The morning grits were a bit al dente, but otherwise food was great. Our table rocked insanely. They couldn’t fix after two tries and we switched to another. Pile of dead bugs outside the entranceway.
The food was good but the service was not good. We sat outside and it was a pleasant atmosphere. The history of the Life Saving Station was interesting. I’m sure our experience would have been better with a better server. We stayed at the resort...so we just walked to the restaurantMore
This palce was severly under staffed and it showed. The service was awful, the guy running the host stand was clueless, the wait staff seemed like they did not know the menu, and the wait times were crazy for the sub-par food. We will not...be going back here.More
We had dinners and breakfasts. Seafood (tuna, scallops) well prepared. Excellent presentation and sides were yummy, plus bread was good too. Extensive wine menu. Breakfasts were fine, egg dishes, granola, oatmeal were plenty of food. We liked the fresh fruit sides as an option. Maybe...a bit pricey, but it is part of Sanderling Resort. Very atmospheric and outdoor seating avalable.More
Ambience was nice. There were only 3 other parties there that morning. The service was less than par. Never had any follow up with server after plates put on table. Had to hunt down the server to get the bill. If you like an overpriced...breakfast with poor service this is the place for you.More
We have been to the Lifesaving Station before and have always had wonderful food, as well as, great service. Fast forward to yesterday early afternoon....HORRIBLE service.
There was no one at the bar when we got seated and only 2 other tables with less than...four people at each of them were in the dining room. Once seated, we sat and sat and then sat somemore...our water glasses had been filled when we arrived, but apparently the folks working at the restaurant thought we were visiting them for simply a water break.
The server attended others rarely and us never. I am all for a leisurely lunch, but this was ridiculous. Not even a "can I get you something from the bar while you wait..." The server walked by us several times staring blankly at our table.
After more than 15 minutes of just sitting with our water we got up and left!!!!
Don't waste your time going in - head on down the road!
We found a Tropical Grill and Bar called Bernie's Brother near the Food Lion that made the best frozen drinks (read that review next!). My blue frozen drink (whatever it was called) was divine, but compared to my glass of water at the Lifesaving Station just about anything would have been better.More
