About
For close to a hundred years, Shatley Springs has been welcoming customers to visit the restful, healing mountain area of western North Carolina and enjoy a country style meal. We love our customers and want everyone to be safe and well. Due to the uncertainty and potential hazard that the coronavirus brings to our country, we are postponing the opening of Shatley Springs until May 1, 2020 in the hopes that at that time the danger will have passed. We may have to adjust this date as the situation develops. We hope everyone in every family stays well and we hope to see you soon.

Dined for breakfast. Not like it used to be. Biscuits and pancakes are like frozen type, warmed in micro. I think this is their last year because they don’t care at all about customer satisfaction. Food was ok but not a lot of it. Had to wait for dish refills, and the first service didn’t feed all seven of us. Our waitress was obviously not happy working there. They charge a dollar extra person for pancakes and the pancakes look and feel and taste like they came out of a toaster from frozen state. All-around a bad experience.

We apologize that you were not pleased with your experience. The pancakes, the biscuits and all the food is made from scratch. It sounds like you ordered the family style meal and that is designed to be an all you can eat experience. We bring out good sized portions to begin the meal, but it is not certain how much anyone would like of any particular item, so we offer multiple refills to make sure everyone has what they enjoy for breakfast. We strive to make sure every guest has a good dining experience and it sounds like this experience did not live up to our standards. If ever there is something that does not make you happy while you are dining with us, please let one of the managers know so we can fix it while you are dining with us.

I have heard so much about Shatley Springs, I didn't think I was at the same place. Almost no social distancing or mask. There was over an hour and 1/2 wait to be seated. When we were seated and ordered the young man was very nice, but the food was cold they were out of several items, there was little to no seasoning of the food. I will not return here. Left a bad taste with me, thought it was also a little over priced for the value.

I visited Shatley in July. Wanted to dine in restaurant. I asked about taking my piece of chicken with me if I didn’t eat it In the restaurant. Waitress emphatically said no. All uneaten food stays in restaurant. Ok. I explained that I was willing to order the take out portion (2pieces) of chicken and dine in restaurant. Asked if I could Take out the one piece of chicken that I did not eat on my plate. Waitress said manager says no no no. But I could eat a take out portion and sit in the porch and enjoy it. I understand that the family style can offer issues. But if you’re 70 and simply want to dine in with single portion and not get extra- the restaurant should welcome this option.

Went there today with two other people and we all had the same experience. The cream corn was the best I ever had but thats all that was great. The roast beef had no salt what so ever but was very tender. The chicken was fried well but needed seasoning and for the price you pay I was not expecting instant potatoes but thats what we got. Pork was fried well too but no seasoning either. Bread was cold and a bit on the hard side and by now I guess you know how we felt about dessert so no use to waste time with that either. I use to hear wonderful reviews about that place and was so excited to go there and try it. Im just going to end this with.... Someone dropped the ball waaaaaay down the hill and never found it.

Very disappointing

We are a racially diverse family and had rented a minivan to take a trip to the mountains and to eat breakfast at Shatley Springs. When I made our reservation the lady who answered the phone was very polite and sweet but when we arrived (on time) we met a hostess who was NOT in a good mood wearing a facemask that we thought was offensive and strange but since Halloween is just around the corner we did not give it any more thought. We arrived on time (at 10 o clock) , were seated right away but then had to wait 1 hour for our food which arrived cold!!! During our 1 hour wait we had to ask repeatedly for straws, coffee, sugar, refills. We had some older family members with us who used to come to this place years ago and we wanted to relive some of those memories with them. Needless to say, this did not go well and we left very disappointed and frustrated. I don't know if this will make a difference to anybody or the people who run this place BUT the Goldston family will definitely NOT be back !!!

I was looking forward to visiting Shatley Springs, I had heard good things about it. But our experience was very disappointing. We got the 14.99 1 meat 3 vegetables plan. When our food arrived it was in small bowls like you get for you sides at Cracker Barrel, one small bowl of mashed potatoes, green beans and Mac and cheese for the two of us to split family style, we got only 2 chicken breast that looked like they were from a Cornish game hen not a chicken and 4 biscuits with no butter, had to ask for butter, can I ask who eats biscuits with no butter or at least jelly. I'll start with the Mac and cheese it look and tasted like powder Mac and cheese, husband said it was the worst Mac and cheese he'd ever eaten, the green beans were cooked with onion but we're still flavorless, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes and we're season with too much of something I think maybe white pepper, the chicken was very small, over cooked and dry, if it had been cooked right and not dry it would have been the best thing we got but still too small to matter. Our waiter, we saw him when he took our order and when he brought our food and I had to flag him down to get the butter we didn't see him again until I had my purse in my hand and we were getting up to leave he says you all don't want desert we said no he said it's included I said no I'm done, I mentioned my disappointment to the cashier and she seemed to not care and said you will have to come back another time and try it. I said no ma'am it's an hour drive, quite expensive for what we got and it's not worth the drive and cost to get food that was mediocre at best. She then said it's because they have a lot of young people working there.
Won't be back.

We take our senior citizens group from church to Shatley Springs each November when we do our annual Christmas shopping for children. They love it there!!! The food cannot be measured to others - they have the best southern cooking dishes in the world and when the bowl is empty, they bring more. We really look forward to this trip and eat our fill while there. And we also try to go with the family each year. Our grandchildren eat until their hearts (and tummies) are content. The staff are wonderful and friendly and always ask if there is anything we need. You can also eat from the menu with your choice of a meat and 2 or 3 vegetables. Not sure how many vegetables because I always get the family style with it ALL and this also includes dessert. I don't know of anyone who leaves there hungry!!! ENJOY.

Had looked so forward to the opening today. My proverbial bubble was soon burst. New menus, and even "newer" prices (think gold is way more expensive than silver). The only meal offerings were for "family style." I have eaten here and at other family style restaurants, so I well know what this means. Previously there was an option for one meat, and two or three side dishes. This option no longer exists-it is family style or nothing. We spent $35.00 (including a $5.00 tip for our waitress) for food that was mediocre at best on a meat and side dishes that normally would have costs a bit over $20.00. When I addressed my concerns to the cashier, she said, "well, I guess it's so he won't hafta hire as many people." To their credit, they have been closed for months, but if the management mentality & management attitude does not change to be more accommodating, with more varied menu options, the market and customer base will make the worries about employee costs a moot issue.

For a family style place. They bring very small bowels of food. Had to ask for more right off to feed the 4 of us. Pancakes was hard and cost extra. Ask for more meats and eggs and awaited at least 30 minutes and never saw our waitress again and never got any refills on anything. Very disappointed. And if you read the reviews not many good ones anymore. Plus they say tell someone while you are there but there's one review where the manager said more less she didn't care.

On 7/10/2020 I was at Shatley Springs restaurant to meet a friend for lunch. I never ate at this restaurant before, though I had seen it advertised for many years. I ordered iced tea, pork chops, cabbage, turnip greens, green beans, and for dessert I had apple cobbler. 2 or 3 biscuits came with the meal. I was served by a very pleasant young waitress named Olivia.
ALL the food was excellent, prepared fresh, and seasoned well. The staff was very friendly, and settings were classic country ... and that's a good thing!

All my life I had heard about Shatley Springs.. So finally I go...Signed in at 11:30 finally got a table at 2: 30..No waitess showed up for 15 minutes the tables next us had great waitresses. We were already frustrated for having to wait so long.. She gets our order food was ok..However I wanted Chicken dark meat. When she came with the food she said they were waiting on the legs to come up.. She substituted a breast instead and said she just gave me one in place of the leg which I ate Not my favorite ..The wait staff were wearing masks which was good but the experience we had probably will not make a return trip..

I'm sure the food is great but the day we went we had reservations for 1:15 PM. We arrived at 1:00 PM and were told there was an 1:30 minute wait for reservation seating??? I asked "What's the point of making a reservation?" They agreed with me and apologized. I know in this day and time restaurants are struggling and I expected some wait even for my reservation (maybe up to 30 minutes) but not an hour and a half. Either the reservation system was grossly overbooked or grossly mis-managed. We had driven 30 minutes to get there. I didn't want to waste 1:30 minutes of my vacation so we left.

This place has awesome food and awesome service. Its not a 5 STAR resort but its COUNTRY. Fresh spring water, small shops and great food. We go to eat here every year for Thanksgiving and we always leave with a full stomach and smile on our faces.

We decided around lunch time that we wanted to go to Shatley Springs on Saturday. It was my husband, our son and one of our daughters. We are about an hour and 20 minutes drive from there, so we ended up with a mid afternoon lunch.
It was more crowded than I had expected. We had about a 35 minute wait, which wasn't too bad considering all the people there. This was my first time going since they opened back up. I usually just get 4 vegetables but yesterday the only choice was the 2 meat family deal. My husband and son had eaten breakfast there a few weeks ago. We all had to get the same thing but that was fine. We chose fried chicken and ham and they give you all the sides and your drink and dessert. I think we had 9 sides on our table. The vegetables were all good. Our waitress was very nice and we had great service. She checked on us often and she brought back 2nds on the food we were out of that we wanted more of. We just asked for more chicken and corn. We had biscuits and ham left over to bring home. We all four had different desserts. I loved the blackberry cobbler with ice cream. My son liked the apple crisp with ice cream and our daughter loved the oreo pudding.

Two weeks ahead of time, I made an online reservation for 6 people for Father’s Day dinner. We’ve always enjoyed Shatley Springs restaurant and have been staying in one of the cabins one year. We drove an hour and a half just to eat there. An hour before our reserved time, someone called me to confirm our reservation for 22 people. I told them the reservation was only for 6 people and that I had an email showing that. We were seated at a half dirty, sticky table, and waited for someone to take our order. A hostess noticed we were not being taken care of brought our drinks. We were told by 2 different ladies that we would have a waitress “as soon as we can find her.” And still we waited. After 30 minutes, I stopped a waitress and asked her if she could get someone to take our order. She left to get someone then returned to say she would just take our order. We placed our order, but she returned to tell us 2 of the side dishes we wanted weren’t available. I substituted 2 others, one of which was side salad since it was listed with the side dishes. She said the salad would be extra. Seriously? We gave up and left. My husband spoke with the manager Josh, who gave a half-ass apology. We won’t be back.
