As far back as they can remember Ryan, his brother Jim and his dad, Namon, have dreamed of opening a restaurant. Through the years, any time a great family recipe came to them they put it aside hoping one day their dream would come true. Ryan grew up being compared to his grandfather, McKoy, and at the age of 13 he decided that would be the perfect name for the family's restaurant. Ryan went on to run some of Charlotte's most successful nightclubs and restaurants, while Jim concentrated on the art of BBQ and perfecting the family recipes. After retiring from a successful career as a photographer, Namon decided now was the time to make his dream a reality. McKoy Register was known for his love…

The food here was amazing! My best friend and I visited for an early dinner and I must say the food and the staff were absolutely on point! I was in from out of town and I plan on visiting again whenever I’m back in...North Carolina.More
We selected McKoys based an ad at our hotel. I also like to try local places.
It was not busy on a Monday evening, so we were promptly seated and our server was excellent. We decided to split the LTD “living’ the dream”. It has...4 meats to try. Pot roast, smoked bone-in chicken, pulled pork and ribs. We chose two sides- a loaded baked potato and green beans sautéed with garlic. Everything was fabulous. The portions were huge. Though my husband is a big eater, we could not finish the meal.More
INCREDIBLE. Every facet of this smokehouse is fantastic I don’t know where to start.
Food/Drink: I ordered the LTD which is a platter with pulled pork, BBQ chicken, pot roast, and ribs. The ribs and pot roast stood out the most but holy hell was...it delicious. The two sides I went with where mushrooms and fried squash. I loved the squash so much I wish I’d ordered it twice. Next day I went back and had the smoked wings that fall off the bone and are juicy with flavor. I got the recommended calypso sauce which was perfect; tasty but not overpowering. The coleslaw you could tell was homemade and a delicious compliment. They have an awesome beer selection with a lot of local selections. The pale ale I had was juicy and refreshing.
Service: The wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful the whole time. Easy conversation and genuinely focused on making your experience was as great as possible. The owner was hopping around helping out and chatting with everyone and you could really tell how much care is put into every square inch of this place.
The vibe/ambiance is great with a nice old timey saloon feel while still being incredibly clean and bright. Classic rock was blasting from the speaker the entire time.
Cannot recommend this place enough. Officially declaring it a MUST EAT.More
Very attentive bartender. The manager immediately asked if there was something I wanted on the big screen TV's
Food was very good.
Enjoyed the large platter. Enough for two.
Highly recommend in Charlotte
NC is BBQ royalty, so I’m always skeptical going to places out of my known greatness zone, but the Trip Advisor reviews here made me believe this place was worth checking out. Good call! I fully intended to judge this smokehouse on their pork, but...when I discovered they create a Pit Smoked Pot Roast, I just had to give that the nod. I’ve never seen that on a menu.
Verdict? Outstanding. The meat was tender and seasoned quite well, and either of the two sauces work well with it, though I preferred the milder sauce. I had spicy pintos and the mac n’ cheese as my sides, and both lived up to the high standards expected in a worthy NC bbq restaurant.
The rest of our table had the pork, fried chicken, and grilled chicken sandwich, and everyone left happy and full. Highly recommend McKoy’s if you’re in Charlotte seeking authentic bbq.More
Fabulous food ... the ribs and atmosphere are spectacular. Unfortunately the restaurant was empty and my assumption is due to Covid. It is such a shame that people are not enjoying this place. We were just passing through and if we are ever back in...the area it will definitely be at the top of our list for dinner.More
Omg. The best smokehouse we've been to in the Charlotte area.
Owner came to our table to introduce himself and go over the menu. He takes pride in his food that has been past down through generations. Almost everything is made from scratch as he...explained.
Started with the chicken wings and cornbread. Wow, the best chicken wings we've had in a long time. They are smoked and you can tell. So much flavor and oh so juicy. Wings are huge too.
Cornbread is unique. It has a nice chewy, soft, moist texture. Great take on cornbread.
Pot roast was delicious. Meat was soft and flavorful. Fried squash was so good. Loved how they sliced the squash thin so the outside was crispy and the inside still has the taste and texture of squash.
Ribs were smoked perfectly. Wonderful smoke flavor and juicy. Meat fell off the bone.
Service was fast and friendly. We will definitely come here again. Great spot if you are from out if town too. We eat here before hopping on our plane.More
Everything we have tasted at McKoy’s is delicious! My husband and I can’t seem to get past the wings. The McKoy’s experience starts as soon as you step out of your car in the parking lot. The incredible smell coming from the kitchen greets you...in the parking lot. The food definitely tastes as good as it smells. Don’t miss out on a visit to McKoy’s if you’re visiting Charlotte.More
We have a 16 & 18 year old and they can sometimes be awful picky on what they want to eat. We made them come here and both absolutely loved it. I've been here a few times on my own and have always had great...service and usually have a manager stop by on check on everything. Highly recommend the wings.More
