I have tasted great southern food i charleston, sc. This southern food is not to my taste. I have been there at least three times throughout the years. I had never been impressed.

Located in the charming downtown of Chapel Hill (home of the mighty Tar Heels), Crooks Corner has been a mainstay in inventive, delicious Southern cuisine for over 30 years. Everything they serve is beyond description, but I especially like Sunday Brunch. If you're anywhere near...More

My friend and I just had a very nice dinner at this restaurant. It served traditional NC dishes such as hush puppies, shrimp and grit and Carolina barbecue sampler, all were very tasty. My favorite was the Shrimp and Grit! It also displayed art from...More

The shrimp and grits, a signature dish, were mediocre -- flavorless and limp. The rest of the meal was the same. Bland, unexciting. The service, however, was very friendly and attentive. Brunch for four on a Sunday. We were surprised at how average the shrimp...More

The experience was incredible. My wife and I research restaurants before going into a city or town and this particular one was given very high ratings by Garden and Gun Magazine which we subscribe to. We’re a little fast pace being from the North but...More

Every time we visit Chapel Hill, our “must stop” is this wonderful restaurant where it’s all about the food! My daughter was at a music workshop at UNC, so I had to go solo, so I had the superb shrimp and grits that are so...More

Menu items vary, but there are old favorites such as shrimp & grits and Jalapeno hush puppies which are consistently good. When in season, their soft shell crabs are as good as anywhere on the east coast. The honeysuckle sorbet is also unique and very...More

If it's not too hot or cold, the patio dining offers the best experience. Our server was good, but not great. Competent and considerate. But it was clear that the wait staff is not familiar with the dishes and what they taste like or how...More

Small college town (UNC-CH) restaurant. We have tried Shrimp and Grits in many East Coast places. Crooks Corner outdoes all others. Preparation, presentation and TASTE are the best ever. This place requires many more visits. And don't miss out on the Bananna Pudding.

Description
Crook's Corner is on the corner of West Franklin Street and Merritt Mill roads, where Chapel Hill meets Carrboro. It's very casual and unpretentious, yet the food and the drinks are outstanding. Crook's Corner is where you'll find the original Shrimp and Grits (introduced in 1983) and also the best Fried Oysters and Banana Pudding renditions anywhere. Chef Bill Smith's dishes are often modern takes on heirloom dishes, or originals, for example: Atlantic Beach Pie or Jerusalem Artichoke Relish on grilled steaks. Some are wholly original, like Green Tabasco Chicken and Honeysuckle Sorbet. Some are super seasonal like Soft Shell Crabs (the best of the best). And some are quirky like Orange Red Hot Sorbet. Some are gutsy and only on for a few days (like Turtle Soup or Sweetbreads). Things on the menu since the 80s and ordered a plenty are Frozen Mint Juleps, Shrimp & Grits, Mt. Airy Chocolate Souffle Cake. Join us for dinner or Sunday Brunch inside or on the patio.
