Since 1991, our English teachers group has dined out once a month at many of the finer restaurants in the Triangle area. For some strange [stupid] reason, we had never gone to Crook's Corner. Well, we have now! And we will definitely be coming back!!! My only negative comment concerns the noise factor. Conversing was difficult. My mouth was usually... More

Crook's Corner is a Southern legend that does not rest on its laurels - or collards - and one has to report, after a group of us enjoyed a leisurely Sunday Brunch - it is as good as ever. The cocktail bar can produce anything but the large spicy Bloody Mary's ($7.50) were more than right for the occasion. We... More

Crook's Corner is a small-ish place located on the border of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro town lines. It boasts a large pig outside with other unusual decorations inside. Always crowded, it's a standard in Chapel Hill with inside as well as outside seating...if it's nice, I love the exterior seating. A long standard choice of mine is the shrimp and grits...the... Tried Crooks Corner this spring and had some fried oysters and gumbo. The small, cluttered place is retro and slightly shabby like a lot of college town haunts. The oysters were excellent but few in number. The gumbo was delicious, yet simple. Service was good. Prices on the high side for the type of food. Coming from SC I am... More

Crooks is one of our favorite local spots. You must try jalapeño hush puppies as an app and the shrimp and grits are unparalleled. Of course, no trip is complete with out one of their yummy mint juleps.

The corner it is. Not much parking but worth finding. All of us had good bar drinks, great food and fantastic dessert. The courtyard is fun to be in and the overall atmosphere is like being in a European restaurant with fine art.

My husband has talked about Hoppin' John for years and I am so pleased it lived up to the hype and I walked away with a signed cookbook containing the recipe! We loved the shrimp and cheese grits, tomato plate appetizer (homegrown), and collard greens. The dessert and drinks are to die for and the service was excellent! Sit outside... More

I admit to going into this place with a hefty recommendation as best shrimp and grits in the area. Wow, definitely not. There is parking at this place, behind the restaurant, but not a lot of it - but better than most places in Chapel Hill. We went in for brunch recently and got some drinks - mimosas were just... The staff was extremely friendly and competent which made our time there a pleasure. The food was...not bad, exactly. Mostly odd. Maybe I'm just not used to southern food? The hush puppies were dry and everything else passable.

WRAL did a piece on this restaurant and I was excited to try it. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Location: Awful. No Parking. This is Chapel Hill after all. Atmosphere: Awful. Did not know that you had to request the PATIO to sit outside. The inside seating was sparse, cramped, ugly and dirty Service: Good even though courses came too close together Food:... More
