We frequent this longstanding establishment in the heart of Chapel Hill a handful of times each year. Our visit this time was like the others: a wonderful dining experience in a cozy intimate venue. We sat out on their porch and ordered charcuterie for starters and moved on to steak frites and shrimp and grits. Both were marvelous. Our experience... More

The menu varies depending upon the availability of fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the traditional Beef Burgundy, and most likely the BEST I've every experience (including Paris). The Duck dish was equally excellent. Sides were well prepared and went well with the flavors. Dessert, of course, has to be Crème Brulee! They have a good wine selection, but "by the glass"... More

During Parents Weekend, we enjoyed drinks and conversation. Going early in the evening to get a great table and drinks before the crowd hits is a good idea. Fun college scene bar/restaurant even though the drafts are fairly limited. The patio/outdoor enclosed area to the side of the main restaurant is a fun place to talk. Friendly bartenders.

La Res went from being a favorite to being off my list of possibilities. As the mother of girls who went through that teen phase, I believe in strict alcohol policies, and when I was in college, there were not myriad opportunities for underage drinking. La Res has lost its license to serve alcohol until after Jan. 2016 because an... More

Couple of thoughts Pulled pork was disappointing, I was expecting a more smoky, vinegary taste. No sauce was served to complement it. Shrimp and grits were tasty. Cole slaw was flavorless, maybe because it needed a good stir before serving. Cucumbers and vinegar were wonderful. Desserts were excellent - praline, banana cream pie in a shooter glass, and brownies.

We purchased a Groupon for $71.00 for a $150 Tomato-inspired, 4 course meal. The meal started with a tomato and beet salad, gazpacho, filet mignon with tomato coulis, and finished with tomato crème brulee for me and chocolate mousse cake for my husband. We also purchased the wine pairings for $15.00 each. The meal really was delicious. The staff was... More

We returned for the special Tomato dinner, having enjoyed it so much last year. EVEN better. Chef Fearrington is awesome. Will be an annual event for all four of us.

La Residence has been around for years in Chapel Hill and seems to have fallen off the radar due to the competition on Franklin Street. My wife and I decided we wanted a relaxing meal in a courtyard off the main drag and were rewarded with a great meal. She had sea bass and I had a small filet. The... More

My husband and I had a coupon for BOGO- appetizer and entree so we decided to try. Delicious meal. Soup, salad, scallops and ravioli for our meals. Chef John introduced himself and explained the dishes. Wait staff excellent. The only but is the price is kind of high for portion size. However, for a special event this is a good... More

We signed up with another couple for the summer Tomato Dinner and had the four courses with wine pairings. Everything was delicious.
