My family and I came here on a Sunday for lunch but they were only offering a brunch menu. The woman who greeted us at the door was very welcoming. We chose a horiatiki salad and the vegetables (especially the tomatoes) were so fresh and delicious. We also had a spanokopita (spelling?), a lamb burger and souvlaki. Everyone enjoyed their... Recommended by friends. The food was very good. For some reason the restaurant was super hot and made the experience less then great. As I live in Raleigh and we have a great taverna here as well I would not recommend traveling but if in CH or Durham it is a good choice

Pros: romantic, delicious, fantastic value, excellent service, live Greek music, amazing desserts, great choices for vegetarians and carnivores alike! Cons: was a bit too warm in the restaurant on the evening we were there. I'm sure that was just a short term a technical problem. Don't get the ouzo / root beer drink...it is a waste of fantastic ouzo. Just... More

We went with some friends that have been in this restaurant before. We are not familiar with Greek food, but gave it a try. Everything was pretty good and the service, excellent. It was a very hot day, and the place was a little bit warm. Besides that, a great experience

I have had the pleasure of eating at Kipos several times. After my first visit on New Year's Eve, I brought some friends. It seemed unlikely that it could be as good without the holiday hoopla, but it was. Since then I have brought many people including children, who have all eaten as if they had not eaten in days.... We really enjoyed our meal, and the waiter was fantastic. He helped us with all his recommendations, and they were spot on. We thought the apps were the best part and in hindsight, we wished we would have ordered a lot of small plates instead. But we were pleased with the lamb and salmon specials. Not terribly expensive either, and... More

The egg lemon was the best ever. From NY to NC I have had egg lemon soup. This was beyond great. My sandwich, selected by our waiter, tasted great and was presented beautifully. Prices are very reasonable and the food is mostly farm to table fresh. Menu has so many great things, you have to go back. They have a... More

Hello Peter, I will be sure to pass along the compliments to Chef Olga, who makes the soup as her mother taught her in Greece! We are starting a boxed lunch program very soon, and we hope you can try it! Best, Katherine More

The food was great. We had Greek salads, pastitsio, and moussaka. The pastitsio was incredible. It was so hot we couldn't stay for dessert and coffee. They should have brought fans in to cool off their customers. Wait until it cools off to go dine there.

I want to recommend this restaurant, but I can't. We looked forward to our visit to Kipos all day, and enjoyed ogling the menu. I love Greek food and love the other restaurants in this group, so my expectations were high, but even with that in mind, I can't recommend that anyone spend time or tastebuds or money here. We... This is definitely the place to go for date night/special occasion. The most authentic Greek/Mediterranean food out there. It is very expensive, but worth it!

Kipos is a place familiar like home, comforting, flavorful, honest and welcoming to all. It's a taverna, where friends and strangers gather every day to share thoughts, a glass of wine or two, raki, beer, and often Ouzo. Mezedes (small plates) keep coming to your table, and the conversation and laughter get better with time. This is something that we all share.

Kipos is a reflection of my childhood: fresh and robust village foods cooked in wood-burning ovens, honoring old and modern recipes alike. It's a remembrance of my mother's masterful way with phyllo. It's a celebration of cheese, breads, mousaka and lamb youvetsi. It's a story about pigeon in clay pots, octopus grilled over a fire and perfect dolmas. It's about my love for her youvarelakia, her rabbit stefado and the aroma of lamb roasting over an open fire. It's about her chicken and potatoes, especially when I was the one who had to catch the bird. Kipos is a tale of baked eggplant, the perfect village salad, kakavia and my favorite, zucchini blossoms and fresh cheese. And of course we can't forget the baklava, honey walnut cakes and spoon sweets.

But above all, Kipos is a story about the love and joy that my parents shared, working the fields heroically, enduring, so that one day my brothers, my sister and I could realize the American dream. My brothers, sister and I became one with the garden, with the olives, with the grapes. We became one with the fields and the mountains that were covered with wild oregano. We gathered animals, both wild and tamed. Nature nourished us with her abundance, with her goodness. This is what we want to share with you at Kipos: cooking from the memory of my heart. Kalos Oresate (welcome) to our home.
