We have been twice with another couple. Both times everyone ordered something different. So, we've have sampled 8 entrees, the breads, and other appetizers. The food is distinctive and delicious with the right amount of spice and heat. We appreciate the impeccable service and the quiet atmosphere.

I ordered the paneer tikka masala, and was quite disappointed with the paneer itself. The sauce is kind of generic as well.

Slightly upscale place on franklin street with its own parking ! It's a white tablecloth affair. They have some typical Indian dishes - but , try Tamil dishes that you don't get anywhere else. Loved shrimp chettinad - flavorful, succulent and spicy without being too hot. Lamb varuval is good too. The star of my meal was the whole fish... More

This was an attractive Indian restaurant with very good food. Dishes were pricey but the potion size justified the cost. Chicken chettinad was a unique curry in brown sauce. Tikka masalla. Biranyi tandoori chicken were all very good. Service was attentive at a relaxed pace.

I live in Durham, NC and have been to Cholanad many times since it opened several years ago. I had not been there for several months and decided to go back with a few friends. I could immediately tell that the food was different, and not of the high quality that I had come to expect. I also noticed that... More

One of my few visits to an Indian restaurant, so was I was unsure about whether I would like it. I needn't have worried. The food was excellent and made for a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

My first time here and it is great. So many different flavors and great vegetarian options. Wonderful service and authentic Indian flavors you won't find at a lot of Indian restaurants

Cholanad is a standby every time I'm in Chapel Hill, and a place that I always recommend to others. Their food is familiar Indian dishes but always with a unique twist that makes it interesting. The samosa chat is super tasty and a meal in itself. The only thing I don't understand is why they don't serve chai of any... More

Dinner while visiting family. Had a craving for good Indian food, and Cholanad had everything we wanted. Food was delicious, and service was very good. Atmosphere was comfortable and we all enjoyed ourselves.
