Vimala's is a casual indian restaurant that delivers some of the best indian food I have had in the U.S. It is in a great location off of franklin street with a nice courtyard for outdoor seating. The menu is refined and they also offer a decent beer and wine selection. The lamb roganjosh and bhel salad are my favorites... More

Since my kids love this place we had lunch there last summer. The food was very good, but you order at a clubter and they bring it out to you. Seating is fairly limited and super casual....I personally prefer a little better atmosphere.

Let me start by saying that I am the pickiest eater in the entire world. Literally. I eat off the kids menu whenever possible, and can't stand people trying to "broaden my horizons." Spicy food doesn't sit well with me either, so Indian has never been my thing. We went to Vimala's for a church get together, and I was... More

I have been wanting to try Vimala's for ages -- I've heard wondeful things both about the food as well as Vimala's community service focus. And the seating in the courtyard is a lovely oasis in the middle of Chapel Hill. So I was pre-disposed to like Vimala's through our blind taste-test comparing Tandoor, Mint, Guru and Vimala's. We ordered... More

Casual place where you order at a counter and food is delivered to your table by number. They have local beer on tap and wine. Great variety of flavors, and the thali platters are a little voyage in and of themselves. Thy also have a mission and will feed anyone who is hungry and can't pay. Good value for doing... More

Very casual atmosphere with excellent food. One can eat out in the peaceful courtyard or inside in their nice atmosphere. I've never had a bad meal - or bad service (staff is always friendly).

Vimala's is a special place. She provides an exceptionally creative take on Indian food, using the freshest ingredients--you'll find her at the Farmer's Market each Saturday shopping for the week. She and the staff provide a low key welcome in a funky environment and I have yet to try a dish that wasn't delicious. Her community connections make the place... More

Casual atmosphere - order at counter, get a number, seat yourself and they bring your food out. Very community friendly establishment which is a wonderful thing but the food is why you go out to eat and Vimala's excels. Fresh hot dosa ...........Mmmmmmmmmm. Love this place. Eating in the courtyard is really nice if the weather is good.

Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe received a $100,000 grant in 2015 in recognition of its contributions to the community, especially non-profits. What matters to travelers, however, is the outstanding food drawn from both northern and southern traditions. Specials change daily and feature veggie, lamb, and chicken with yellow rice on the side. Owners Vimala and Rush are often available for quick conversations.... More
