My first visit was the one in Raleigh. The chapel Hill location is closer to where I live. The chicken at the Raleigh location was crunchy and flavorful. The best chicken I've had in a while which is why I came back. However, the one...in chapel Hill with soggy and not as good. A very disappointing visit. This place is supposed to be known for crunchy chicken. There was no crunch!More

We've been to BonChon several times. The Korean fried chicken is good of course, but the nicely arranged menu contains some nice fusion touches that you don't see elsewhere. We bring the kids and have no trouble finding selections that suit them.

Was looking for easy take out and decided on BonChon. Let bed the chicken wings. They were nice and crispy. There are two flavors, garlic soy and spicy. I loved the garlic soy. I did not stop to consider the spic level of spicy Korean...wings, but they were too spicy for me. Still, I order the garlic soy whenever I have the chance.More

Arrived on a Saturday evening. The university was on summer break so parking and crowd wasn’t a factor. I tried the signature combo chicken (wings and legs) nice and crunchy and I mixed my sauces. The garlic Parmesan French fires were also great. Everything was...hot and tasty. Our waitress was also friendly and checked on us periodically . I will definitely return.More

I really appreciate the Korean take on Fried Chicken and my wife and I were anxious to try this venue. Sadly, this was a greasy tasteless concoction....the chicken had absolutely no flavor and the crust while tasty was entirely too greasy.

Our family went for Korean BBQ today and the potstickers with garlic and soy were really good. The spicy ones were really spicy. My beef sliders were really good with only a little kick to them which was perfect. My daughters dish was way too...spicy even though they put less spice in it. It was the rice cakes with chicken (Bull Day). She loved the flavor. Our other family had the BIBIMBOP and could handle the spice.More

Had moved out daughter out 2 weeks earlier from UNC and now on returning to Durham to move out son out of NCSSM. Since UNC was out Franklin street was pretty quiet which was nice change of pace. We decided to do a walk and...have some snibbles [snack and a nibble] along the way. First stop was the Cuban revolution for the chicken empanada not that good wouldn't return. Our next stop was the Lantern, there we had the oysters, the most expensive I've ever bought and smallest 16.00 for 6. The flavor was very good. We followed this with the pork and shallots pot stickers so so, sauce was a salt lick a little ginger and sugar would of helped big time. I promise we will make it to BonChon. Almost across the street was a taco truck, 2.50 for a street taco, you can't pass that up and glad I didn't. Finally off to BonChon we were surprised and a bit scared that such a nice new place only had a few people in it. We forged forward into the unknown and we were rewarded with a delightful tasting we started with the shrimp shumai fried as suggested by our super friendly and kind waitress Katie. It's a must have dish!! Next was the chicken strips again we listened to our waitress and did half spicy and half garlic soy, the spicy was for me I'd say at most wing places it would be hot to extra hot it'll get the endorphins going. The coleslaw was nice to cool down the spice level. The garlic soy was also super tasty. I will return for more.More

The chicken was very good my husband and I both really enjoyed it. Our server Katie was very knowledgable, friendly and attentive. We live 5 hours west in the mountains and will DEFINITELY be back when we move our daughter back into UNC. A nice...change of pace from the multiple pizza and burger joints on Franklin Street. We highly recommend trying Bonchon out. I bet you'll love it too.More

Been wanting to try this place after hearing about Korean fried chicken and never having it before. Pretty disappointing - if this the best ever as some say on here - then, I'm done ever trying it again anywhere! First off - pretty expensive -...for two of us - $50 - that is with a couple of starters and fried rice to share. The shrimp shumai (steamed) was probably the best thing we had. The takoyaki was strange - fried dough with some pieces of octopus - would not get again. Had the combo chicken and strips. As people have noted - pretty dry - very light on the sauce. The spicy is not really very spicy. Just ok on the crispiness. The strips are not really strips like you think of - they are pounded pieces of chicken breast - kind of flat - making them even drier when fried. The fried rice was nothing special - not much flavor. All in all - not very good and was expensive. Tried it.........that's about it.More

According to friends who came here 2 weeks ago, the service was slow and not all menu items were available. So we have waited 2 more weeks to come. Service was good and we did not have to wait long for our food. Food was...great but the spicy wings are just too spicy. I wish they will let you choose the level of spiciness, like mild, medium and extreme. The soy garlic wings were good!More
