The food was good and service was first class. But when I go to a restaurant I don't expect to walk away hungry, yet that's what I did at Herons. I'm sure a lot of people are simply wowed by this type of restaurant but it's wasted on me. If I'm going to pay the level of prices like this,... More

This is a first class restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service impeccable. It is located in the Unstead Resort Hotel and the entire surroundings are gorgeous. Definitely the place to go for a real special occasion. The menu changes with the seasons and most of the food is grown within 40 miles from Cary.

The culinary creativity in terms of both taste and presentations are beyond anything else in the Southeast. The experience at Herons is better than anything in southern foodie meccas such as Charleston, Asheville, and Nashville. There is a great 3 course offering in which the Chef sends out some picks for the table. These chef's picks are culinary gems. One... More

Gastronomic restaurants are the "creme de la creme". Herons is one of 2 restaurants, rated 5 star by Forbes in North Carolina. We went there for a special celebration dinner and had the 4 courses menu with Paired wines. In short great food, nice wines, very good service, deserved the gastronomic status!! The wild boar and Monkfish were both very... More

My wife and I recently stayed at Herons for our third overnight staycation. From the moment we exited the car everything was taken care of for us. Our room was perfect for our getaway as were the drinks down at the bar. Room service the following morning was the perfect way to wrap up our time at Herons. As we... More

Don't hesitate to come here. Lunch/Dinner here is always excellent. We even came here for a holiday Brunch and it was the best such experience we have had. HIGHLY recommended.

The service and presentation is great....if you want a great romantic dinner and the ambiance and service is most important to you, I would highly recommend Herons. My wife and I, however have been there and done that....if/when we go out, we want to have a culinary experience that challenges both our senses of taste and smell in addition to... More

Once in a lifetime experience for us folks that can't afford restaurants at this price level on a normal basis. It was crazy good.

I had my birthday dinner here, what a treat. Nothing is simply served here, it all has a twist; my Oysters arrived with smoke (liquid nitrogen). Likewise with food served from flat rocks, or made to appear like a garden, every course item was a surprise (what is it? Eat it he says). The staff are excellent, they put on... More

Herons delivers a dining experience that is both refined and relaxed. The expertly trained staff warms the room, providing seamless service that helps guests enjoy the pleasures of an elegant meal. The main dining room offers a full view of the kitchen, while floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light and overlook the terrace, lawn and wooded lake beyond. In addition to the 98-seat main dining room, a semi-private dining room seats up to eight, while the private dining room accommodates 12 and showcases pottery by North Carolina artist Ben Owen. Outdoor seating invites al fresco dining in the spring, summer and fall. The neutral palette of the décor in Herons provides a sophisticated, yet understated backdrop to the bright and inspired flavor combinations artfully presented. The dinner menu changes seasonally and draws heavily on produce harvested from The Umstead’s own sustainable farm. The exceptional quality of Herons’ wine list been recognized with a prestigious “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator.
