We went with my in-laws for my birthday and enjoyed the meal. They commented on it feeling authentic since they have traveled in the British Isles. The bourbon batter onion rings have light tempura-like batter and the spicy bourbon ketchup complimented it well. The French onion soup was good, but not as phenomenal as another reviewer mentioned. The fish and chips has two huge pieces of good fish, but the green beans could use less garlic. The Reuben sandwich was huge and my 85 year old father in-law didn’t stop until he was done. The Guinness stew has excellent flavor but the meat was a little dry. Ask for some soda bread with it or you will have not hot soup up the gravy with. Finish it off with their good bread pudding and be sure to ask for extra whiskey sauce.

Doherty's is a very good restaurant, be smart and make reservations if you want to sit inside. Menu has a great selection and they do know how to make great food, appetizer of french onion soup and for dinner corn beef and cabbage. They have a great beer selection on tap as well. Service was great, they do not rush you and we had a very good evening.

I was very impressed with Doherty's Irish Pub. My wife and I went for dinner on St. Paddy's day and I anticipate that we will go back again. We enjoyed the festivities that Doherty's put on for the holiday, and while the Guinness was a bit pricey it was a fun time. We got fish and chips for dinner and my wife also ordered the bacon cheese fries. The side of bacon cheese fries were a bit salty, but that might have been the combination of the type of cheese used, the bacon and the fries. However, the fish and chip meal itself was quite good. The fish was flaky with a the breading having a nice crispness to it, I personally thought the fries were some of the best I've had at a sit-down in a while, and we were both surprised by how good the beans were. The service was also great despite it being their busiest day of the year - or at least I'd imagine. Aside from the Guinness (I'd imagine there might've been a St Paddy's premium), the prices felt fair for the quality of the food. As I said previously, I anticipate that we will go back to Doherty's again and I'd certainly recommend them to anyone looking for some solid food and drinks at an Americanized version of a pub.

The food: Fish and chips 1/2 order for $12 is good value for the money. French fries okay, green beans okay+, the fish was mostly tasteless with a slightly bitter fried coating, but a good size portion of that. Chorizo soup was good, came only with plastic package tiny crackers. Garlic bread was pretty blah tasting.
Pleasant evening dining outside. Service was pretty good although there was a long delay to get our check.
All things considered:
Food 3 stars
Value 4.5 stars
Service 4 stars
Atmosphere 4.5 stars
Nets out to 4 stars.
I would go again for the value and atmosphere, try different sides- if not good, would not then go back.

Brought my mother here for dinner and every single thing we ordered was above average.
I had a boxty. I chose chicken and it was so delicious with its havarti dill sauce that I will order the vegetarian boxty next time without any hesitation.
My bf had the fish & chips with a light and crisp beer batter. Perfectly done. Healthy portions.
Mom had the French dip which she enjoyed very much and it smelled delicious. Nice details like the yummy horseradish sauce and an ergonomic dipping bowl.
The staff were courtious and worked well together.
We had beer, but the mixed drinks going by looked excellent. Will try those next time.
They have a pretty big outdoor area for those who want to stay al fresco.

Love this place & for the vast majority of the food, excellent. That said, a couple things need their attention. The green beans & potato croquettes need to be served warm to hot, not room temperature (as they have been the last 3 times), seasonal lemon-blueberry cheesecake tasted nothing like lemon at all & was served with a mushy crust that was nothing like the graham cracker crust it was supposed to be. Had gotten to go sadly & really wasn’t edible as it also wasn’t cold. On the plus side, staff is great here and all other dishes were tasty & a great value for the five of us. Loved the fish n chips in particular. It was very hot, as it should be & I think the sides were room temp as they sat until the fish was done. Since this is every time, maybe think about not plating unless everything is hot?

Went to Doherty's (Cary) for the first time a few days ago as a party of 6. Service was excellent and the food was very good. Those who ordered fish & chips LOVED their food. Two of us got shepherd's pie and although it was good, I've had better. It was just a bit bland for me -- I think the addition of beer and also salt in the making of the filling might pump up the flavor a bit. Kids enjoyed their chicken tenders, those who had salads liked those as well. This is one of my shorter reviews, but not for any particular reason. If you're looking for an Irish pub with better than average food and really good service, go to Doherty's!

Are at this restaurant because it was rated the #2 restaurant in Cary by Trip Advisor.
While it is a good restaurant it's definitely not the second best in Cary. Bosphorous for example is much better to me.
Ordered lunch Fish and Chips. The fish was very good and well cooked. They gave you way too many chips (fries) but they were delicious.
Nice Irish atmosphere including Irish music. Service was very good also.
I enjoyed my meal but won't be back. Irish food isn't very healthy and there are other restaurants that I prefer to eat at in Cary.
I had no problems though and if you like Irish food it is a great place.

Ordered online. Menu was easy to navigate and many choices. Good for meat lovers as well as vegetarian. Food was ready at the time promised, and well packaged. We did curbside. The person that brought it out was very polite and thanked us for supporting them. The meal was beyond delicious and bountiful. I had the fish and chips and they were cooked to perfection. My wife had the Mahi taco's. Great meal! Will definitely be back!

Nice pub with nice environment. I had the corned beef with the cabbage. The beef just melts in the mouth. It was delicious and different. The wine was nice as well as the Irish baileys coffee. The bread pudding needed to be bit more moist. I was there about 4:40 so it was merely empty and not busy but felt rushed when I was given the cheque while even have not been even through half way my coffee in the glass and I did not even ask for it. It is not a good basic customer service.

Dinners are about experiences and good food. Make sure you go when the live Irish music is there…makes the place great. Food was very good…especially the Irish egg rolls. Bring an appetite, food is very filling…not great for those on a diet…but worth the splurge. Atmosphere makes the place…enjoy!

I can only speak to the food, since we ordered delivery. But, the food was delicious! I ordered the stew, which was absolutely perfect. I didn't even need to add salt or pepper. My teenage daughter ordered a reuben with no krout, no cheese, with mustard, pickles and whisky onions. She's super picky, but loved it! The onion soup was so flavorful, but was too salty. Otherwise, the entire meal was heavenly.

I really loved almost all the food here, the bangers and mash and brisket poutine especially. Only knock on the place was the server forgetting items and never refilling water. He was nice, just a bit spaced out I guess.

Excellent food. We had the shrimp hush puppies as an appetizer. We also had the French dip, the shepherd’s pie and the vegetarian Irish sandwich-the Donegal. It was all very good. The only complaint we had was that the beverages were placed in tiny little cups-like 6 oz cups and were not refilled. Our server was not the best.

I came here with my family and the food was excellent with an atmosphere that feels like home. The Beef Guinness Stew is my go to. My wife usually gets the Fish and Chips which is the best in the area. My daughter loves the chicken fingers. Sometimes if we're not full we share the Bailey's chocolate mousse which is excellent!
