About
From our Smokehouse Breakfast and Slow Smoked Hickory BBQ to the Sweet Iced Tea, Pig & Grits delivers that 'down home' southern experience that BBQ is known for. With humble beginnings, we opened our doors in December 2014, and grateful to be a part and serve the Burnsville Community and surrounding areas. Our slow-smoked meats include Pulled Pork, Brisket, Chicken, Turkey, Ribs and more. We do all of our smoking over locally grown, hand-cut hickory. We proudly smoke these all natural meats in-house, daily over hand cut hickory! It goes fast, so when it's out it's out! You'll always find five regional sauces, from Eastern NC to Georgia, Tennessee & beyond, to satisfy your flavor exploration.

My wife and I were in Burnsville, which we have loved so far, for our 10th anniversary. We walked around down town and asked several people about good places to eat and a few highly recommended Pig and Grits so we gave it chance and...had some great expectations. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. When the best thing at a BBQ Restaurant is the Sweet Tea and Hushpuppies, it's a bit of a let down. The Jalepeno Popper appetizer which was ok but could tell they had been made way early and far from fresh which seemed to be a theme for the rest of our meal. We ordered the Meat Sampler plate and it was very tasteless and extremely dry. 3 of the 4 meats were nearly inedible. We ended up only eating the BBQ pork. The sides were also bland, we got the grits and brussel sprouts. The waitress asked how it was and we were honest so they did at least not charge us for the appetizer. We were really hoping for a great meal after reading reviews and getting recommendations, but it just fell flat for us. Everything seemed like it had been prepared hours or days earlier and reheated as dry as it was. The skin on our chicken quarter was gray and very unappetizing. You could tell it was smoked in "dirty" smoke. The picture doesn't do it just for how gray it really was. Overall a very unapetizing meal. According to our visit I probably wouldn't recommend to anyone else.More

We recently ate here again for a repeat visit and it was just as good as we remembered. The service was excellent, and we had wonderfully good food - the brisket, smoked chicken, and fried okra were excellent and the onion rings were the best...I've had in forever. And a nice variety of BBQ sauces to try out. My only regret is that I didn't leave room to try their banana pudding.More

Fantastic BBQ. We had the pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and banana pudding. The sandwich comes with two sides. We started with fried pickles which were awesome. Served with ranch and chipotle sauce. The service is southern friendly. Would definitely go back.

Wife had piled high pork, banana pudding, and onion rings. I had chicken livers, beans, and potato salad. Both come with hushpuppies, and we both had sweet tea. Servings very generous. Meats, banana pudding, hushpuppies, & onion rings were great. Beans & potato salad very...good. Service Could NOT Have Been Better! Sweet tea is not advertised as made in house but tasted like it.More

We were excited to try a little of everything and as a big group, had a chance to do so....We love good BBQ and this was excellent. Their bread pudding is made in house and is delicious and can be one of your choices for a dinner side. Really well done - service, food, cleanliness, and aesthetic. You will ❤️ it!More

We’ve been coming to Burnsville for a couple years now and never went to “Pig & Grits” for dinner, lunch or breakfast until just recently. The name of the restaurant “Pig & Grits” suggested food we wouldn’t really want to eat or would enjoy. I...have prepared BBQ for 20 plus years on a BGE (ceramic dome BBQ/grill) and more recently including a Pellet Grill so, we do enjoy a multitude of serious protein preparations. Our experiences for BBQ when dinning out are usually disappointing; the flavor, texture and portioning never meet expectations. And Grits – not something I enjoy much. So, the name suggested foods that would be mediocre at best and certainly nothing to select over other available venues. We could NOT have been more wrong about our perception of the Pig & Grits restaurant. We’ve now been there for Dinner and Breakfast with plans to return again before leaving the area. Our dinners both included Pulled Pork. My dinner also included the BBQ Quarter Chicken. Both dinners came with 2-sides each. The portioning for the Pulled Pork was impressive – the most I have ever experienced at a restaurant claiming to serve BBQ. And the pork was tender, juicy and flavorful. Served in a cast iron skillet that kept the pork warm to the last mouthful. The BBQ Quarter Chicken looked good but, was partially dried out and not at all enjoyable. The portion of the chicken not overly done – the underside - was however tasty. Unfortunately, this piece of chicken had been allowed to over-cook or set-aside for too long before making it to the table. All the sides were very good and well sized portions. We had enough leftovers to take home for another complete meal – carefully re-warmed, it was good. Our breakfasts were excellent and the portions generous – more than we could finish. The complimentary Cinnamon Roll with the coffee was a prelude to a very enjoyable breakfast. I had the Brisket Hash. The Brisket was very good – it was so good, I would have liked more but, there were also excellent (crispy brown outside and tender inside) home fries and a couple eggs prepared just as requested. Then to top all this - was a Biscuit – done to southern perfection. She had the Potato Bowl with local sausage bites and an assortment of perfectly selected fresh ingredients. The presentation was worthy of a photo and as nice as we have seen in upper-end restaurants. The table service was outstanding for dinner (Kelly) and Breakfast (Megan). Our Servers were attentive throughout the meal and so personable at table-side, you wanted to just talk. They both really made the overall experience very enjoyable. It is evident that this restaurant’s offering is “understated”. The menu dishes defy the “back county” image the name suggests. The owner has experience and demonstrates that with the selection and quality of food presented to customers. The best thing the owner could do is select a name that includes the obvious - “Barb-B-Que” – which would more accurately represent the food preparation being served and might also appeal to a broader customer demographic. More people should enjoy this Burnsville restaurant.More

I am a local patron who has made online orders at Pig and Grits. Today I ordered and paid online and was informed my order would be ready at 5:08 pm for curbside pickup. I arrived, signed in to let them know I was waiting...and at 5:15 pm I walked inside to ask about my order. The young lady in the front went and checked on it and said they were "just finishing it up." That turned out to be an untruth. I continued to wait and saw others come in and pick up their orders and mine still wasn't ready. Checking again, she said "they are finishing it up." A manager came to me and asked me "what did you order?" Really? I go from almost to finished to what did I order??? She said the order didn't print and they were working on it now. By "now" it was almost 5:30. I finally received my order and drove home to burnt hushpuppies, soggy onion rings and dried chicken fingers. Extremely disappointing. It's hard to recommend Pig and Grits to friends and visitors when this is the service and lackluster food.More

Thursday night (Nov. 11) my wife went in for my 2x's annual BBQ sauce restock, KC Kicker and Cherry Bourbon. When she got there she was told they don't have Cherry Bourbon and was very confused by the question (I'm assuming that she's new and...that cherries are out of season). In the end, loving wife ended up getting that and a KC Kicker. Instead of a bottle, like we usually get, it came in a bag with a twist cap and spout which was a very nice surprise. Then we went in for dinner last night (Friday, Nov 12) with my wife. We were very excited we hadn't been able to get in for dinner since before the 'rona. 35 minute wait on a Friday is more than reasonable and, while I wasn't actually timing it, I'm pretty sure the wait was less. The wait for a server was also not unreasonable. We ordered drinks, she came back rather quickly with drinks so we placed our order (Full-Rack ribs for myself w/Mac n Cheese, Nacho's with Chicken for loving wife and an order of Fried Pickles as an APPETIZER, as in to be eaten before the main meal). [At this point I should note that there was a group of younger (late-teens/early-20's) people at the booth behind my wife.] We waited for our pickles. And waited. Our served returned to the table behind Wife (with the youngers) 7 times. It became quickly obvious that she was friends with these folks. Not a problem at all. During those 7 visits she approached us once to see if we needed drink refills (we did not). No updates on food, and as it was early in our wait, it was to soon to ask about the pickles. We didn't see her again for a bit. A different server finally brought our appetizer, along with the entree. Hush puppies, YUM. Mac n Cheese, COLD. Ribs, not cold, definitely not hot. Wife's nacho's, the cheese was a mix of 3-4 different cheeses which was not how it was described on the menu at all. Oh yeah, the nachos were cold too. We ended up seeing our server once more to pay the bill, and didn't even mention that the ribs were literally on the plate untouched, the nachos were barely touched and, according to Wife, my face showed that I was obviously displeased (Is everything ok? Is there a problem?). Whatever, it's fine, I thought, I have a microwave at home and my KC Kicker for tomorrow (today, Nov. 13). My KC Kicker was nothing but browned vinegar. God we LOVED this place. I don't know if the FEMALE owner is gone or what's happened, but I have no interest in returning to Pig-N-Grits. We are truly disappointed and heartbroken.More
