Everett Street Diner has been one of our favorite breakfast destinations since we began kayaking the Bryson City area. Last Sunday while on our latest trip there we stopped in on Sunday morning for a hearty breakfast and some coffee. The weather forecast was ominous...that day and didn’t disappoint. Our waitress, Beverly, had just delivered some good hot coffee and taken our order when what seemed like a hurricane hit. The wind blowing outside on Everett Street was amazing and the rain blowing horizontally. A few moments later ... blink, blink, and suddenly the power was out.
We figured our breakfast was a loss but we would sip good coffee and wait out the weather. Imagine our surprise when Beverly showed up shortly with our food. She said we had gotten our order in while the stove was still hot and we couldn’t have been more tickled. What an awesome meal. I enjoyed the pancake combo while my wife had delicious French toast and eggs. We felt for the people who arrived late seeking shelter out of the weather as the power hadn’t been restored as we left.
While we had been waiting, we couldn’t help but notice a picture on the wall of a beautiful waterfall. My wife asked Beverly about it and she told us it was Mingo Falls in Cherokee and how we could get there. She also suggested we visit Soco Falls and gave us directions there as well. Once the weather let up, we visited both and with the rain both were beautiful.
Again, we can’t say enough good things about the wonderful food, good service, and friendly staff (especially Beverly!) of Everett Street Diner. Highly recommend!More
