I think everything from start to finish was not only unique but so needed. The food was fresh, tasted great, the service was polite & the concept was rewarding to participate in. Even though they’re not looking for staff help, the idea of helping out...your fellow human is seldom seen but very much needed. Kudos to the staff & proprietor for bring all the elements of a good meal & contributing to the welfare of their neighbors for providing such a warm experience.More

Came across this place while shopping in Boone recently. We asked a college student standing outside if she recommended it; she said she was waiting for a friend so they could go in and enjoy her favorite, the Reuben melt, on the menu that day....We decided to take a chance and were so glad we did. All of the daily offerings are based on area farm products, and the price of your meal is only "suggested"---no one who is hungry is turned away. There were three kinds of soup (I had the Brie, onion and bacon), several salad options, the above mentioned "melt" and a vegan version of it, plus pear crumble. When was the last time you had pear crumble---if ever! It was all delicious, served in a most friendly, clean dining room with lovely murals by local artists. This is a must for your dining in Boone!More

We came across this restaurant just to eat lunch. The food was GREAT. We found out that this is not a typical restaurant that we will go to. What a great help to the community. We’re excited to come back.

The concept behind this business is very cool. Everything is farm fresh and they don't have a menu they just make whatever ingredients they received fresh that day. Very cool "home cooked" vibe. Make sure to donate!

This restaurant had me from the minute I learned that they feed the hungry. The way it works is that you go in and order from a cafeteria style setting. There are suggested prices for plates ($7) and platters ($10), including entrée, side, drink, dessert....If you pay more than the suggested price, your donation goes into a jar for those who cannot afford to pay that much. If a person comes in who cannot afford to pay at all, they are fed in exchange for working a short shift at the restaurant. The day we visited, they were serving barbecue, barbecued tofu, locally grown vegetables, and a couple of choices of small desserts. The servings were generous and the food was tasty. Would I go back? Definitely! The food is great and the cause is even greater.More

We had waited two years to actually eat here and made a special trip just for lunch. Different menu daily , locally sourced items,,,thus days menu was fish, soups, etc. After the hostess explained the concept of the restaurant and how to be served, we had...black bean and beef chili, salad, skillet fried potatoes, fresh pineapple and cookies for dessert all for a suggested amount OR for what you could afford. BTW the ginger chocolate chip cookie was great! Thanks so much Boone for such a wonderful place for food and fellowship and a hot meal for anyone who is hungry even if you have no money.More

I saw this amazing lady, Renee Boughman on U.N.C. TV. Our public broadcasting station here in NC. Talking about her F.A.R.M. cafe. Her concept of everyone can eat regardless of financial status & pay it forward is just lovely. You can volunteer at the cafe...to eat if you don't have money. She is an amazing spirit & does business with local farms. I was determined to meet her while I was on vacation in the mountains around Boone, NC & check out the food as well. Let me tell you, she did not disappoint! The food was so fresh & so delicious, I wish I could eat there often, but we live 4 hours away at Ft. BRAGG, NC. If you are ever in Boone, NC. Please check out the F.A.R.M. Cafe! You won't regret it. The people that work there are very warm & inviting also. 😊More

FARM stands for Feeding Anyone Regardless of Means. We were lucky enough to stumble on this GEM of a place when visiting Boone, NC. Not only is the food fresh and delicious, and not only is it a terrific deal and a cheerful place, but...the concept behind FARM is so wonderful. EVERYONE should make a stop at FARM for a meal and you'll see what I mean. The concept is simple, FARM feeds anyone and everyone, and you pay based on need. Anyone who can't afford a meal, must do some sort of work there for an hour (serving food, cleaning, cooking, greeting, whatever) and after they do, they receive a token to eat their meal. The meal is fresh and cooked each day based on local deliveries. You can have a soup to nuts (and dessert!) meal or take what you like. Suggested price I think per meal was $10 but you can pay /donate more to support the efforts or if not able to pay, pay less. Not only did we feel full and satisfied from the meal, but our hearts and spirits also felt full of joy when we left. These people are doing GOOD. Please visit and eat at F.A.R.M.!!More

Farm restaurant has a policy of serving anyone regardless of mears to pay. There is a suggested price (donation) of $7 or $10 depending on the size meal you pick. We opted for the $10 meal and receive a main course flank steak, soup, veggies,...salad, drink and dessert. All items were good portions. The staff were mostly volunteers. Service was good and we were checked on several times. I'd definitely give Farm a thumbs up.More
