The people were all very friendly, the decor is great; the menu is "upscale" and we had expected exceptional food. It wasn't. I had crab cakes which were good but not wonderful. My husband had grilled trout with peaches and almonds - that should have been a wonderful blending of flavors but it all got lost in way too much... More

New chef, new menu, fantastic food. The Fried Green Tomatoes with Tenderloin Medallions tasted great as did the Shrimp and Grits. We finished off the dinner with in my opinion the best desserts in Black Mountain. One of the best Creme Brule I have ever had. Add to it a Peach and Almond tart topped with organic vanilla bean ice... More

There's a limited menu on Sundays, but the food and service were excellent. They had fried chicken or prime rib - $13 or $17 for a 3-course that included salad and dessert. My wife and I had the Prime Rib 3 course; entree came with delicious mashed potatoes and grilled squash (which I usually don't really like, but this was... More

We were seeking something sweet and were glad to have Fitz's Taproom open and the Palate restaurant. Since we only wanted dessert, we opted to sit at the bar and enjoy a delicious apple cobbler ala mode. Scrumptious. Always glad to stop in for a drink, dinner or dessert at Palate and Fitz's Taproom in Black Mountain.

Our party of six were delighted by the dinners we ordered and the attention we received from the server. Two of us were from California and decided this dining experience compared favorably with all past experiences as to imagination of the menu and quality of the food.

I have to say I didn't expect a culinary delight from this place looking at the outside. It was in an old refurbished hotel, so I expected something that would be good, but not the beautiful courses that we all got. The plated food was very attractive, and the textures and spicing was perfection. This is one of those places... More

A wine dinner was included in the price of the conference but this wine dinner was extraordinary. From the first course of scallop mousse to the arugula with a clam cake to the duck confit with cauliflower mashed potatoes ending with a chocolate panne cotta the meal was truly delicious and special. The coupled wines were so good I drank... More

Stayed at the hotel and had dinner there. My wife liked her chicken dish very much. My steak would put the Biltmore's Bistro to shame for a much better price. Full bar also. Our server was very good.

My husband and I decided to take in the new art exhibit at the Monte Vista Hotel and finish the evening at the Palate Restaurant. We had the pepper crusted ahi tuna steak with the best zucchini fries I have ever tasted. The tuna was prepared to perfection and lemon lumped crab buerre blanc was a wonderful complement to bring...
