I wanted to treat myself and friends to some prime rib (the advertised special) for my birthday. Arrived at 5:15 on Sunday afternoon. The waitress returned to advise that all they had left was cooked medium well ( I had requested medium rare). We agreed to the menu change only to be told by the manager several minutes later that... I just had chicken and waffles at Sunday brunch in the Monte Vista. It was absolutely delicious - the best I’ve ever had! Please come try it. I hear there is a new chef and boy does he know how to do it right. If you need anything, ask for Ashley the events manager. She is very friendly and will... More

We just had Sunday lunch with a group of 16. This was the most disappointing experience we have had in years. 1. No menus, only three choices for lunch even though their website clearly has a decent Sunday Brunch menu. 2. No sugar or sweetener on the tables or offered. Ordered unsweetened tea which is generally drank with sweetener. 3.... More

This may become the great restaurant Black Mountain deserves, but it is not there yet. The menu is excellent, the dining-room staff too few and too inexperienced, and the preparation neither as refined nor as consistent as we hope it will become in future. Rather than a blend of flavors, salt tends to dominate dishes, although the appearance and presentation... More

Do yourself a favor and get the Thursday, sweet tea brined chicken special. It came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Very delicious and was only $12.

Palate provided the best meals we had on the Western North Carolina segment of our trip. Looking forward to trying their prime rib on our next visit.

The people were all very friendly, the decor is great; the menu is "upscale" and we had expected exceptional food. It wasn't. I had crab cakes which were good but not wonderful. My husband had grilled trout with peaches and almonds - that should have been a wonderful blending of flavors but it all got lost in way too much... More

New chef, new menu, fantastic food. The Fried Green Tomatoes with Tenderloin Medallions tasted great as did the Shrimp and Grits. We finished off the dinner with in my opinion the best desserts in Black Mountain. One of the best Creme Brule I have ever had. Add to it a Peach and Almond tart topped with organic vanilla bean ice... More

There's a limited menu on Sundays, but the food and service were excellent. They had fried chicken or prime rib - $13 or $17 for a 3-course that included salad and dessert. My wife and I had the Prime Rib 3 course; entree came with delicious mashed potatoes and grilled squash (which I usually don't really like, but this was... More

We were seeking something sweet and were glad to have Fitz's Taproom open and the Palate restaurant. Since we only wanted dessert, we opted to sit at the bar and enjoy a delicious apple cobbler ala mode. Scrumptious. Always glad to stop in for a drink, dinner or dessert at Palate and Fitz's Taproom in Black Mountain.
