We ate here as it was close and we were craving some Mexican food. Very noisy and busy for a week night. Food was OK, nothing spectacular. Service was good.

The restaurant is very popular with many locals and visitors, but not for us. It's very noisy and the several times we've eaten there, we've both gotten sick. Not a good recommendation, huh? Others love it, so I say give it a try and form your own opinion. We are definitely in the minority in our community.

We ate there last night while we were staying nearby. Food was ok and priced right but our waiter was not a happy camper. We asked about gluten free options and he did not even offer to ask anyone. He was pretty much nonexistent thru the meal and didn't smile once. We may be back but definitely will not be... More

Food is mediocre but abundant. The restaurant is always busy but cavernous and very noisy. If you want a quick meal, it works.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. The servings are huge, prices were reasonable, service was attentive PLUS they have a "salsa/sauce bar" for a change from the regular sauce brought to the table with the chips.

I was visiting relatives from Orlando and figured, okay, why not, let's venture out for--Banner Elk Mexican? You bet. This place is outstanding. From the enchiladas to chiles rellenos, everything was first rate. And the guacamole dip made tableside was the best I've ever had, Service was friendly, with a neighborhood atmosphere. The prices are an incredible bargain. Will make... More

You are among the people of the homeland when you go here. Always look for natives. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Tasty shrimp cocktail with avocado chunks in a gazpacho sauce. Chicken and beef fajitas very well prepared. Great menu and quick, efficient service. Reasonably priced.

The best guacamole in town. Service is good but had a slight language problem with one of our servers. Food is above average. It is a little noisy when they are busy.

We have found the food and drinks at Puerto Nuevo to be the most authentic Mexican food we have had in North Carolina. Being from New Mexico and Texas originally, that's huge for us! The menu is quite extensive. Not just the usual Tex/Mex cheese enchiladas and tacos. (Although, I am a taco snob and theirs are great!) Table side... More
