We returned after many years for dinner. Out of the 3 nights we stayed, this was the least memorable dinner we had. It was a bit pricey but the trout appie was great. Maybe prettier when there isn't so much snow so you can see the river.

The Hungry Trout sits on a lively stretch of rapids of the West Branch of the Ausable River, on Route 86 in Wilmington. The restaurant offers gorgeous views of Whiteface, Marble and Esther Mountains, as well as a beaver bog, where you stand an outside chance of spotting moose, bear, beaver, etc. The Hungry Trout features a mix of backwoodsman... They had trout served several ways but I opted for the pan-seared which was delicious. My friend was anxious to try the duck but was a bit disappointed because it was dry. My husband had the game sampler which included duck, trout and quail (instead of venison which our waiter said was not the best because of the draught). My... More

Located on a famous trout fishing stream and next to a famous fishing bar, cute animal carvings greet you as you approach the restaurant entrance. Fishing memorabilia adorn the walls of the main dining room, which oversees the Ausable River. The menu is gamey-oriented. We shared a generous bowl of Wild Forest Mushroom and Brie Bisque, a grilled rainbow trout,... More

The menu here is fabulous. I loved their Grand Marnier trout - sweet yet savory. I chose to sit outside from the Pub below, but you can order from either menu. Glorious fall colors and sunset and a chimonea for heating, but you still should dress warmly. Their picture windows offer a great view of the river below.

Food was average. Price was high. Did not live up to the expectations. The service was outstanding. The facility and view were absolutely beautiful.

We enjoyed our dinner so much that we went back the next night and were lucky to have Tricia as our server both times! Beet salad, bread, steaks and vegetables were outstanding!

Dinner here was a lovely experience. Our appetizers - house salad and calamari - were both delicious and well prepared. We liked the extra touch of the kitchen splitting up the salad for us. Both were tasty and good value. My husband and I both ordered the trio sampler consisting of trout, duck and venison. The duck was delicious, the... More

Very nice meal, attentive waitress. Great place to eat if you are in the area. I would ask for a seat by the window - it looks out over a beautiful stream that is lighted at night.
