Stopped over on our VIC road trip. Walked around town in the arvo to check the options. Decided that a 'pub meal' would do. WOW! Hubby chose Steak & Kidney pie (& raved about it), I had Seafood Crepe: 2 huge oysters naturale, 2 mussels, fresh king prawn, 4 prawns with tail in the crepe plus calamari, fish & countless... More

Passing through Castlemaine we decide to stop for lunch. As seniors we were attracted to the sign out the front that offered 2-course seniors meals for $14. It appears they are only offered at that price on Wednesdays with the normal price being $18.50. Although the servings were smaller than the enormous servings we saw being delivered to some diners... Besides being a drinking place the 'Cumby' is often a venue for live music as well as sports broadcasts and all-day food service. I was there three days/nights in a row during a music festival, and I was impressed by how well the staff maintained a reasonable standard of service. When a woman had a fall, cutting herself on broken... More

40 or so people came to the 'Cumby' after a family funeral in Castlemaine. We booked a function room via mostly emails and the offer was a good price for food platers, coffee & tea and no extra cost for the room. The finger food was great and plenty and worked out very well for those that traveled on the day.Left... More

Driving through Castlemain I picked this pub from its outside appearance. It looked like a real pub. On entering I was dissapointed by the cheap 'sports club' interior. However after receiving and tasting our meals my opinion was changed. Great parmi, great roast. Would definitely recommend for real pub food

Service was good and atmosphere okay, nothing special. I ordered the lamb shanks. Which should say lamb shank as there was one. It was quite fatty and not much meat, taste was average, nothing special and vegetables were okay. Would I return for a meal? Probably not.

Came for a Saturday night dinner as most places were already booked. The menu is very limited and if you are vegetarian there is basically nothing to order. Thr kids meals are also limited and no healthy choices available. Despite the food being very basic and not very appealing the prices don't really reflect this. I wouldn't eat here again... More
