This cafe is located in a strip mall, the Hilltop Plaza, which has parking. Although they serve breakfast & lunch all day, note that they are only open until 2 pm. I had a half a sandwich & a cup of soup, which many restaurants don't offer on their menus. It was real roasted turkey, not just deli meat. The menu said their sandwiches were served with chips, deli salad, & pickle. The odd thing though is that the deli salad provided was potato salad. While it was tasty, I thought it was odd to serve potato chips & potato salad together on one plate... My lunch companion had French Toast which she enjoyed. The French Toast though wasn't as thick as you'd see in a typical diner.
Although the menu states Homemade Corned Beef Hash, the waitress alerted us ahead of time that they'd run out of it. My companion decided to order the premade hash (presumably from a can) that they had & was fine with it... Lastly they had a sign that said CASH only!

Passed by for years and finally decided to stop in for a quick breakfast. Diner fare with very friendly and attentive waitstaff. The western omelet was delicious and the homefries were crispy and not at all greasy. Wife enjoyed a short stack. Coffee cup never empty.

From the time you open the door to a very friendly greeting "On the Hill" checks all the boxes. Phenomenal service, very clean establishment, abundant parking and diverse menu with numerous daily specials. It is clear they have established a well trained team to ensure your happiness.

I can’t believe this place doesn’t have more reviews. Stopped here on Labor Day while visiting the Albany area. The breakfast was amazing, very fast service and every single employee was so friendly!!! Stop here if you’re in the area, you’ll be impressed.

It's such a great cafe/diner but we have driven past it often and not even seen it - but it came highly recommended so off we went. It's a busy cafe with a good breakfast and the wait staff seemed to know the diners and it would have fit right in in a small neighborhood, instead its neighbors are a cemetery (across the road) and some specialist stores and laundry. But do not be put of! It is worth it! The coffee is above average diner coffee ( though we never seem to get quite enough - the staff seem to be running and not have time for regular trips round) and the breakfast is good: good choice and nicely presented. The lack of spouse's favorite (deep fried home fries)m means it will be our every week diner, but maybe once a month...The last visit he really enjoyed the potato cakes and egg special and I had a banana bread french toast with raspberries - a little short on ht fruit but having little frozen berries was a nice contrast with the warm french "toast".

Our son has taken us here twice for breakfast. On this rainy, foggy first morning of winter, I'm briefly catching up on FB, email, some news while the Hub and the Lad use the laundromat next door and check out the secondhand tool shop down the strip...I'll join them in a minute (in this strip, there is also a wonderful Mid-Eastern grocery that sells freshly made dishes as well as stock items). I don't want to linger here too long - they are busy!
Great breakfast, lively clientele (many greeted by name), great service, imaginative menu. For example, homefries are great, but you can substitute a side of spinach with feta and garlic if you like. Of course, we split it up so we had both! Yum!
Only quibble is how they have the place empty on their website - this place is hopping!

On The Hill Cafe & Pizzeria replaced the old diner type restaurant that previously occupied the same space (Hilltop Plaza Cafe) and also the long since closed Napoli Pizzeria. The cafe expanded into the pizzeria area using the front for dining and the back for pizzas utilizing the pizza ovens left by Napoli. The day I visited it was crowded and still had plenty of seats. The menu is large with alot to choose from in addition to specials. Prices are very reasonable and pretty much include everything with large portions. The staff is friendly and attentive with the service and the coffee refills, and also seem to know everyone. I believe it's quickly become a local breakfast spot for that party of Latham / Watervliet. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but it's on my list of to do's. Definitely worth a visit !!!

Stumbled upon this place by accident. Such an awesome find!!!
We stopped for breakfast. Ordered eggs, toast, home fries and bacon. My Uncle ordered the same w/sausage. Food was served quick, hot and delicious. Each having coffee too, the bill only came to $15.
The staff is fun and friendly. The owner himself man's the grill and will come see if your happy w/your order. They offer up a broader menu and delivery after 4pm. My son is addicted to their garlic parmesan wings. Their prices are great. Proof? On Tuesday January 9th (2018) their doing a prime rib dinner for $14.99. Gotta admit I am intrigued to see if it's as good as the rest of their normal menu. I'm betting it is. 😆
Blink and you'll miss the entrance to the little plaza (if you get to the traffic light by the fence store, you've gone too far) but it's SO worth the U-turn.

I moved to the Albany-area a few months back. Discovered "On the Hill Cafe" when I arrived and I'm glad I did! I really like this place. I usually hit it once a week. Great food and great service. From their specials, to breakfast, to their dinner menu - I haven't had a complaint. As other reviewers noted - very friendly service, and quick, too.
Two tips: 1) make sure to view the specials (on the chalk board) when you first walk in because they aren't noted on the menu. 2) the place is PACKED on weekend mornings. But it's very low key during the week for dinner. So if you don't like crowds --- this is a great option for you during the week. And it serves breakfast all day.

Went to this restaurant for lunch and had the chicken wings and onion rings, which were good. However, the place need more ventilation because it was very warm in the restaurant in spite of being about 50 degrees outside.
The service was very good and the rest of the staff were very friendly.

Love my breakfast hot and Hilltop delivers. Selection is average breakfast/lunch with a few cafe specials. The cafe service is quick and friendly. Can't miss here for a hearty breakfast fare.
