You have to visit Lukmaan if you crave local Zanzibari Food. We ordered a lot of food here! Definitely value for money. There really isn't a menu here, but you just pick and choose what you want from behind the counter and pay for it, then sit down and they bring it to you. If you only try one thing... More

There are actually 2 Lukmaan restaurants in Stone City. I went to the one by the slave museum and the Anglican church on New Mkunazini Road. As others have noted, it is a cafeteria style restaurant and it is very popular with both locals and tourists. Certainly, the low prices have a lot to do with its popularity (well under... More

We went to the restaurant after seen a review about it here on TripAdvisor. When taking a taxi be prepared to pay 5000-10000TZS ( 2-5 USD), (3-6 AUD). For 5 different dishes we payed 24000 TZS (11 USD). My family and I loved the food especially my aunt who had ugali, fried fish & liver. I loved their mandazi's too.... More

It's a bit like a cafeteria in style but great selection of local dishes, curries, breads, samosas etc and amazing fresh fruit smoothies. Expect to pay no more than about $5 for a huge plate of food and drink in the atmosphere under the huge tree.

Food was nice, nothing to rave about but the portions were large. There's a nice outside seating area, nothing fancy but relaxed. Go there at lunch as this is when they have most options.

Locals and foreigners dine here and we had heard about it online. We were not disappointed, the food is amazing, we are vegans and had plenty of options. The bread is great to dip with the curries (recommend the veggy tomato curry and the coconut potatoes and peas) and the biriani is awesome. We tried the sugar cane and loved... More

I went there after a visit to the Stone Town slave church. At first I was a bit reluctant to get a bite from there however our guide told us it was good and loads of foreigners were in there always. I went in and it was true, loads of bag packers. I had rice and beef stew. I suspect... More

My friends and I read about the restourant and decided to make it our first stop for something to eat in Stone Town. Around lunch time the place was full of locals and tourists alike. Since there were many choices and we were not very familiar with the local food we asked some help from a friendly waiter who didn't... More
