We stayed long in Stone Town, and we like to find one place that suits us and eat there all the time. Lukmaan was it! What I find interesting about this restaurant is that is popular with the tourists and locals alike. You can sit...down and order from the menu or you can go to the bar and order there directly. I loved all the fish/octopus combinations and the Biryani rice! I recommend it definitely!More

It's a restaurant in Stone Town really close to the Old Trading Market. Local food on a good price and the juices are simply amazing. There is this great waiter who was so approachable if I am not wrong his name is Mahmood he can...even speak Portuguese if someone needs.More

A simple local popular restaurant, crowded during lunchtime. Serves rice of all kinds, grilled meat, chicken and fish. Do not pay to much attention to the cleanliness of the restaurant you know it is local place. Cats every where. Some time you share the table with...others. very cheap. You wont lose anything if you missed it .More

We served several dishes. I prefer restaurants that have over time kept their mark from the local cuisine and that's what I'm always looking for, authentic food in authentic places. I recommend it to everyone who comes to Stone Town. The restaurant is located a...short distance from the slave market, currently a museum.More

Even though we read so many nice reviews about Luukman, our experience over there was quite disappointing. Food was below average, the place was all over dirty. I am fond of street food and local tastes yet I dont find Luukman’s food either unique or...tasty..More

We had wanted to go to Ma Shaa Allah next door which is supposedly the more “in the know” place but the building it is in is under renovation (like half the things in Stone Town rn!) so we ended up at Lukmaans which was...honestly great for first time visitors like us, if a little confusing in terms of whether to wait to be seated, order at the counter, etc. There were definitely a few locals scattered amidst the tourists! But we were well taken care of and had a delicious meal. Do note that the signs indicate they accept cards but they strongly prefer cash and will likely claim the machines aren’t working if you do try to use a card.More

Good lunch. Needed somewhere to eat lunch whilst visiting StoneTown. We chose somewhere kind of authentic rather than just another hotel like where we were staying. The food was good, and extremely cheap. We both had a curry with rice, chips and naan with a...drink each for around £12. Food was plentiful and tasty but just don’t expect it to be like anything you would get in the UK. Very good value for money, glad we went here for the experience.More

We were recommended this restaurant by another couple that we met travelling, however we were quite disappointed. We knew it was going to be buffet-style and we had no issue with that. There was a good selection of meat, fish on the grill and vegetarian...options. However we specifically ordered only two pieces of octopus and calamari but served a massive plate which we had to pay for even though we didn’t order it! The price was excessive and having been in Zanzibar for more than a week it was unjustified. We had much better fish on local restaurants along the beach in Matemwe or the food market in fodhani gardens!More

This is a unique experience! Food is really good and well cooked, no worries go and eat local! Definitely go, and here is your easy guide: 1) Bring TSH (accepts dollars but shillings are easier). 2) Peak hours are 1-4pm, expect a lot of people....Slows down towards evening so for a calmer experience go around 6/7pm although food options are limited as items sell out fast. 3) You can go to the counter and order/pay directly. This saves a lot of time when wait staff is overwhelmed in peak rush hour. 4) do not feed cats, or do so at the end of your meal, otherwise you’ll be overrun! 5) Read menu and prices. It’s super clear and if you pay attention no worries! For 2 people we ate heartily for 7$-10$ USD.More

The location is perfect in the heart of Stonetown. The buzz is definitely why you'd visit Stonetown... The freshly made fruit juices were great... We didn't get to enjoy the food so much because the cats are everywhere... and they kept coming.
