What a spot! We loved it. Thank you to Randall and staff. We arrived late during a downpour and still was able to have a light meal and gin&tonic in the room. Comfortable bed, outdoor shower, fantastic views of the neighborhood and people, and an atmosphere that assures you you "aren't in Kansas anymore!" Important to know the hotel is... More

This unique restaurant located on top of a former spice house is truly unique. Fresh food and daily changing menu. Cocktails at sunset to see the sun and hear the early evening call to prayer is quite evocative. Only one sitting, booking ahead is essential. I have now been twice, taking friends there the second time, and it was just... More

Fantastic atmosphere at this beautiful old hotel building in the middle of Stone Town. To sit at the tiny roof top restaurant and enjoy a very tasty seafood tasting menu was one of those experiences that do not come too often. The food was Swahili style and very well prepared. Stone Town is not for anyone who is is too... More

You should only eat here if you plan to focus on the fantastic experience. Because it is a restaurant that not only offers great food but also a whole experience. And cone in time to enjoy the sunset. We were there both for lunch and dinner. Both times great food.

We ate dinner at the "Secret Garden" restaurant (rather than roof top) while staying at the Emerson Spice Hotel. The "ruined" courtyard makes for an atmospheric location. The food is freshly prepared right there in front of you. There is a limited vegetarian option, but it was sufficient for us. The food was great and not exorbitantly priced. Would definitely... Went to Emerson spice this week. Was actually pretty average and overpriced for the food that was served. The setting is nice with a view over stone town but because of the buildings in the way you don't get to see a proper sunset. The building is nice and it feels very authentic and traditional as you climb the many... More

Dear Steve, Thank you for your review of The Tea House at Emerson Spice. Our Daily Changing Five Course Fish and Seafood menu is compiled each morning by our Zanzibari Chefs to showcase all the seasonal, local ingredients the island has to offer combined with its famed fresh spices. The Team and I are very disappointed that the dinner didn’t... More

Our local guide took us inside Emerson Spice - stunning!!! Would love to have stayed here, but my family insisted on beach resort, still, grateful for the opportunity to have a walk around inside and see this beautiful place. Next time!

Great location right in the heart of Stone Town with fantastic service. Amazing roof top bar where you can enjoy a sundowner or dinner and listen to the call to prayer. However it was the personal service and attention to detail that I really appreciated especially from the manager Russell. He made the whole stay so much more relaxed, from... More

The sunset was spectacular to only be surpassed by the great food. The service was excellent. The only flaw, a minor one, was the timely manor of receiving our bill.

It is highly recommended to book in advance ( at the hotel's reception ) . The roof terrace was already full but we enjoyed very much the patio at the ground floor as well. Very friendly personnel that even walked with us back to our seafront hotel ( you will easily get lost in the dark ). It is the... More
