I am privileged to live in the area where wapalapam is located. The prices are pretty high but it’s worth it , my family and I always choose this restaurants to celebrate special occasions. I could eat a 100 of their chicken wings , hungry just thinking about them ! Not only is the food great but we haven’t had any bad experiences with the staff , they are all very sweet.

We were recommended this place by a friend, and we weren’t at all disappointed. Being on an island you expect good see good. We’d had seafood curry and fresh fish throughout our stay in Mauritius but Wapalapam was by far the best. It was fresh, tasty and plentiful. We had the crevice, tuna tartare and calamari to start and all three were amazing. The crevice was the standout though for me. For mains we had whole fish and the fish coconut curry. Again both were delicious and plentiful, cooked to perfection. We also had desserts which were good, but no where nice as the seafood. Cocktails were are pretty great: pina colada, frozen mojito and passion fruit mojito. It was out last evening on the island so we did indulge and spent quite a lot more than anywhere else we’d been. Having said that the food was the best we’d had and the service was second to none. There were at least 5 waiters, and ours was particularly attentive. We even got to try the house rum on the house at the end of our meal which rounded it off nicely. Highly recommended if you’re anywhere in the area! Wish we could have eaten there again!

We first booked at 8.30pm, and the restaurant called back to tell us to try to come earlier… So we went at 7.45. While arriving there, we realised that their menu was half the size of the one on their website, and that they were missing half of the products on their already very restricted menu… How can you potentially explain not to have any fish left at 7.45pm in a restaurant on an island ?? They apparently have issues with their suppliers, but this cannot be a valid excuse. We finally had to eat shrimps and lobsters, as not many other options, massively overpriced as we ended up paying a lot more for a reasonably good meal than at the 5 star hotel where we were staying… Staff was very apologetic but that did not make up for this very disappointing experience. At 9.15 when we left, the place was totally empty… Definitely a place to avoid, at least until they solve their issues.

Dear klaudiop521 Many thanks that you have taken the time to share your experience at Wapalapam. I am surprised that someone who owns a restaurant sends a feedback on a public platform like you did, it is in my opinion a shame for this industry. Wapalapam is an Island Eatary, we created a unique concept which promotes the heritage and culture of an island. Our goal is to provide a good relaxed service in a cool atmosphere. The products what we are purchasing are sourced on the island itself or bought from certified suppliers to ensure all fishes and seafood is at the best and freshest quality as possible. That’s the reason why we have to charge more than other local restaurants as we buying the better and more expensive products. Of course we are doing competitor surveys to ensure our pricing is competitive and in line with other similar restaurants. Wapalapam opened its doors more than 2 years ago, catering over 50000 guests a year. Most of them are satisfied as you can see the score 4.5 on Tripadvisor, that could be changed with your comment, thank you for this. Of course there is always space for improvement, we are working consistently on systems to get better. Especially in high season when we cater over 350 guests a day, we are struggling. You can read it in below comments that our sittings are limited and sometimes we are unable to cater the number of guests required due to high demand in short period of time. As restaurant owner you are from the same industry, and you should be aware that mistakes happen, especially when you open a restaurant from 7:00hrs to 23:00hrs. I would have really appreciated that you gave me your feedback in person and maybe you could have given some ideas for improvement, that's how it is usually done in between the owners and managers of restaurants and hotels. I apologize that you were very disappointed with the waitress, you mentioned it on the table to her, she felt very sad this day. I see on your Tripadvisor profile you are quite often unsatisfied, you like to complain, especially in other restaurants. It is very unusual that a restaurant owner is letting other places down. I really recommend to Tripadvisor to block you from the platform or at least remove some of your comments as what you are doing is as I mentioned earlier, a SHAME FOR THIS INDUSTRY. Hospitality is one of the hardest industries with a huge globally shortage of professionals where everyone is working hard and trying the best as possible for guest satisfaction, but comments like yours are discouraging young people to step into this industry. I thank you once again and wish you all the best for your restaurant Sincerely Willibald Reinbacher (author of award winning AQUACASIA culinary jewels of Indian Ocean)

We went once, food was OK so we went back again. The waiter was rude, told us they are expecting 80 people and that we cannot sit at the two tables side by side that we'd want facing the street. We thought OK, and then sat where he told us to sit. Albeit crammed together. After finishing eating (a good 1-1.5 hours after we came) the huge crowd of 80 people never showed up, the tables we wanted were empty. We didn't think much of it. A few days later, we were surfing near by and then stopped again (3rd time). Instead of greeting us like a return customer with happy smile, the waiter was even ruder, and didn't want to give us a table that would accomodate 8 plus a baby comfortable, rather a 6 seater. We were in desbelief, we're returning for the 3rd time and he treats us with such rude demenor. Wish they knew what customer service was. That waiter should be fired. He ruined a restaurant with great potential. He is a disaster.

I live in London and my Partner and I are spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants. We have eaten great food and had great experiences but nothing to match this restaurant, we escaped the 5 star hotel and dropped in one evening and ended up returning 4 further times during our stay. I can honestly say everything about this place was fantastic from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. The food stands out and is amazing, the head chef and his chefs work miracles however the amazing food is made all the better by the experience produced by the waiting staff, everyone is exceptional but I do need to call out 1 person in particular and that is Prishi Sowamy who is so invested in the restaurant and it’s customers it’s refreshing. He is charismatic and full of energy and so very good at what he does. We ended up going there for my partners 30th birthday and Prishi without telling us put on the most amazing seafood platter which was not on the menu as a surprise… amazing. Also the owner spent time in the restaurant and with us too which was really nice, we even asked for hats and t shirts that the staff wear as a little momento which he went and got for us, again amazing. Thankyou so much to all of the team.

.As soon as we arrived at the restaurant in Le Morne we didn't feel welcome at all. The waiter we had not even care to say hello , take 1 second to look at you they only want you to hurry up to sit , eat and go. Restaurant wasn't 100% full it was 1:30pm on weekday. And still you deserve to be treated politely. He wasn't friendly or welcoming so the overall experience started really negatively. The food is ok but pricey for what it is and especially compare to other restaurants in Mauritius ( even high standards ones!). I'm disappointed because i appreciated the concept and the decorations. Plus it was a restaurant close to the beach.... The positive vibe come from the barman who was super friendly and smiling!

We arrived at end of the afternoon 4 of us and wanted to have a drink and some snacks to start with. All tables where apparently booked but empty. The waiter did not allow us to sit anywhere but at the bar that is not convenient for a business discussion. We insisted to be at a table and that we would leave when guests would arrive. When we left 2 hours later at least 4 tables where still empty. So we ordered some drinks amd asked for some snacks answer was sorry kitchen is closed and of course no one came to us when kitchen was opened. While during the entiere time we could smell fried stuff and food cooking that was not super plesant actually. Overall experience is poor. So we wanted to have dinner there and actually left and will never come again. Unfkrtunately 2 residents have been part of the group!

We got the recommendation for this restaurant but it was a total failure. The worst night of our whole stay. Even our first impression was not good - everything was so dirty and messy, there was no enough cutlery, the paper napkins were crumpled… But we decided we will trust them and give them a chance. From the beginning, the waiter insisted that we should take the sea platter. It was not in the menu and the price was much higher then anything else but we agreed to order it since we still thought that this is a good and correct restaurant and that the waiter have something special for us that day (at the begining he was really simpatic and persuasive). When the food arrived, we could not believe - thrown pieces of some old smelly fish mixed with 3 pieces of calamari, half lobster and lots of crab legs all over the bottom of the bowl. Additionally, everything was seasoned with some horrible smelling sauce which looked like dirty water in which the dishes was washed. We told the waiter that the food is not good and he sad he will speak with the kitchen. After that, he never come again to our table neither when we were leaving the restaurant. Also, we ordered one bottle of wine and after that we asked him for 3 additional glasses of wine. On the invoice, he put 2 bottles of wine. We all really like to travel and eat in the restaurants and we are aware that some food we like better and some less, that is really not the problem. But this atitude “I will cheat you, take your money and I do not care about your dissatisfaction” is something which we despise. Do not go there, you are for them just a stupid tourist!

We went to WAPALAPAM because it was recommended to us by several people and it had some good reviews. However, we were more than disappointed when we left because of several reasons: 1) We ordered the local beer, which tastes very good, but the glass was not full when brought. 2) As a starter we ordered the Salt and Pepper Calamari which tasted boring at best. 3) The main dishes were local fish wrapped in a banana leaf and the chili chicken. The fish tasted like nothing. The chili chicken tasted very good but was full of cartilage (my boyfriend had to spit it out several times). 4) Our waitress could not give proper answers to our questions, e.g. „Is the fish wrapped up in banana leaf a typical and local Mauritian dish?“ - „The fish is local.“ When we asked for the bill, she did not tell us to go to the counter, so we waited several minutes for nothing. When we went to the counter ourselves, the waitress did not come to bill us and her colleague told us to wait for her. When she did not arrive for almost another ten minutes, we asked again and he gave us the bill. 5) The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, but nothing special. It is a typical tourist restaurant. 6) Considering the price we paid (ca. EUR 70,-), we were more than disappointed because of the quality of the food, the quantity on the plate and the qualification of the staff. Our personal experience in Mauritius was that the street food we tasted was much better for a fraction of the price. In all fairness, when we left, one of the staff members recognized we were disappointed and asked us what the problems was. When we listed the above mentioned issues, he apologized and offered a free drink and dessert on the house. We declined respectfully and drove back to our apartment. We don’t mind paying a little more for good food, but this experience was not worth it.

We were there twice in our 7 day stay in the south of the island. It’s not that cheap, but the quality speaks for itself! The fish in banana leafs, the tuna from the grill and the Fried octopus were our favorite dishes - even though everything was really good. One of the waiters even organized a private tour for us where we could swim with wild dolphins.

We had dinne: food was decent but the waiter was distracted, not paying attention to us, and uninterested in service us well. The reason might be we only ordered 2 fish salads.. It seems to be a place for tourists only, or for those who are willing to pay extra just for the "hipster location".

We went to many restaurants in the island and this one really stood out for the best fish we had, starters, presentation of the food, also in very generous quantity, great value for money. We were also surprised about how fresh all the ingredients were - we LOVED the home made ice cream and rum. On top of all of that, the staff was extremely friendly. We can't wait to eat there again, recommend it with eyes closed.
