Excellent Seafood Restaurant

Huge seafood platter for 2 from Le Capitaine - Sensual Seafood Experience composed with Lobsters🦞, crayfish, 🦐giant prawns, scampi 🍤 , oysters 🦪, calamari 🦑, crabs🦀, fish 🐟 and some carrots🥕 and peas. Starters tartare of fresh tuna and pan fried scallops. Just thinking about it makes me drool 🤤 If you really wanna have the seafood experience in Mauritius, Le Capitaine is the place. Fresh products, experienced waiters, simple yet nice location by the beach. It is pricey, but that’s what we pay for in Mauritius for fresh seafood so i totally recommend it.

Excellent food and service

Drove from Port Louis for dinner at La Capitaine. The service is impeccable and clearly the waiters are very experienced. As it was high season, a limited holiday menu was on offer. The selections were no less excellent. Our starters included scallops, heart of palm salad, and crab and heart of palm gratin. Our mains included grilled prawns, duck confit, grilled fish fillet among others. Our table oohed and ahhed throughout each course, enjoying the Sancerre bottles we ordered. For dessert, the options are slightly larger than they should be, allowing you to share instead of ordering per person. Between the tiramisu and crème brûle, the brûlé wins hands down. While the food is delicious and a bit pricey, be aware that portions are small, therefore a 3 course meal is a better option to feel adequately full. Highly recommended.

As our family holiday drew to an end, I decided to treat my wife to a date, when we arrived we were greeted with a warm smile, unfortunately I didn’t get our waiters name. We started of with a fish tartar and green salad. Then moved on to mains, my wife enjoyed the red snapper while I had the tiger prawns. We finished off the evening with some desserts.. Every one of the dishes we were served were enjoyed thoroughly by my wife and I.. The setting of the establishment is amazing, great views of the bay and the crystal turquoise waters. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

The best food so far on the island , hotels are offering buffet crap cheap food. The octopus warm fish tart salad was very good the fish tartar was nice as well. The lobster was excellent. Service was ok.

The best seafood ever

I have eaten seafood around the island, this is one of the rare place where you get the most fresh lobsters and tiger prawns. it was just too awesome, very tasty, full of flesh, very juicy. Lobsters are normally not cheap but definitely worth it. Do try the tiger prawns also.

First Class Seafood Experience.

We visited this restaurant for lunch in October 2021. The setting is lovely as our table overlooked the bay and we had the restaurant to ourselves for most of our visit as Mauritius was only reopening to foreign travel. We were offered the signature dish of a fish platter but sadly I am not as big a fish eater as my wife. Our main courses of prawns and lobster were lovely and we throughly enjoyed our visit. You get what you pay for and this restaurant is not a cheap option but totally worth it .

Excellent food!

We were invited by friends for dinner at this place. At first we were dreading the long drive in the rainy weather to the restaurant in the North of the island but once we reached there, we were so happy to be there. It is located in a nice spot by the beach with a nice ambiance. The food was heavenly - one of the best seafood restaurants I've been to. From the scallops, king prawns, lobster to fish etc, we enjoyed every bit of the food. The chef's suggestion for the wine to pair with the food was also excellent. A place not to be missed!

Family dinner

We went there for dinner without reservation and the staff were kind enough to accommodate us and give us a "view sur mer" setting. We had two seafood platter and had fresh food. yummy food. Excellent food. A must visit while you are in GrandBaie. Kumar was excellent host and taking our requests so humbly. Thank you for an amazing night, Le Capitaine.

We tried this restaurant based on a recommendation from a local and due to an article mentioning this restaurant on a travel website. However, we were very disappointed with the food. We ordered the lobster, which came with veggies and pasta. The lobster was overdone and therefore dry and chewy, the pasta was tasteless (could use more salt for taste) and the veggies were bland and tasteless. Same goes for the catch of the day. The fried calamari appetizer and tuna carpaccio were good though. Overall, disappointed in the food, wouldn't come back because there are better restaurants nearby for the same or better price.

Delightful experience

Visited whilst on holiday, we have visited this restaurant in the past and it has lost none of its quality,for food or service. Although the restaurant was busy our waiter,Kumar was marvellous at guiding us through the menu and advising us on dishes available. The ambience is typical Mauritian— service with a smile in a beautiful setting. Our party of four ate starters,mains and cocktails for an amazing £89. A gastronomic experience like this shouldn’t be missed. Thank you Kumar.

The crab soup was good, but far too salty. The Babonne (a local grouper) fish filet was unhappily au gratin and the advertised crabmeat, if present, was not apparent. They must improve wine by the glass. Service was poor, at best. Despite passing by twice prior to the evening and chatting with the guy who appeared to be the manager/head waiter, getting a taxi called was slow. As was all service. Other tables who arrived after me were more efficiently served. Not pleasant.

Amazing Seafood

Definitely visit Le Capitaine. Great location & setting for lunch & dinner....we had the Seafood Platter which was so fresh, tasty and huge - great value! We were welcomed & hosted brilliantly and really enjoyed chatting with the manager all night!

Amazing experience as always at Le Capitain

This has to be one of the best seafood restaurants that we have ever experienced, as the food is fantastic, the service is great and the view overlooking the ocean, beach is second to none and all reasonably priced. Me and my family have been coming here for over 20 years and every time we are in Mauritius we make it a must to stop off and have a meal... The Seafood platter for 2 persons is truly divine. Again we cannot recommend this place enough...

Lobster ravioli,The chef needs training how to make Ravioli. Michel Roux Jr or Jamie Oliver pasta making video to learn.

I’ll start with the positives. The food had flavour. Nice atmosphere overlooking the jetty. The negative were the service was mediocre, the waiter was like he was on another planet. At the end of our meal, we asked him for the bill which never arrived, so my sister had to go to the counter to pay instead. The food were ok except for the execution of the Ravioli. The stuffing inside the ravioli was flavoursome however the main part which is the pasta itself were thick like dumpling, shaped like half moon or gyoza instead of being thin and delicate Ravioli, The lobster ravioli lacked refinement. The chef is in dire need of training in making ravioli. And learn the basics of pasta making.

Amazing fish restaurant by the beach

This is a great fish restaurant by the beach, with a very friendly people, great service and delicous food. The location is at Grand Baie, overlooking the sea, very calm and tranquil atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant, we a had a very nice dining experience here. Really special place to have lunch of dinner.
