my idea of a good pub models my idea of comfortable footwear namely, an old shoe. this brilliantly laid out, tastefully designed, old shoe is a fresh take on pub/sports bar/restaurant/meeting place. Like going to a public place in a private house, I felt safe,...welcome and almost pampered without being bothered. menu was well varied, service was timely, apt and thorough. such a comfortable place to be that the pub became a backdrop for a great time with another person and a nice experience.More

My mother-in-law recommended a bar for lunch, I was a little surprised, but she said that it is a great place for quality Irish food with a nice atmosphere. She was not wrong. We had decent customer service, but the food was very good and...the servings were a great size. The chicken was moist, drinks were good and it was very clean. I would like to check this place out in the evening when they have live music. I highly recommend the Celtic Harp.More

My boyfriend and I stopped in today for some lunch after touring a few breweries around Utica. He was hoping to find corned beef and cabbage but instead we found amazing burgers. We were very happy with the portion sizes and the prices. We walked...out stuffed and only spent a total of $40 for an appetizer, two burgers, and two cold beers. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again!More

Our GPS had us on the right street, but we couldn't find the place we had planned on going to when we came across the Celtic Harp. Only 11:30 in the morning when we went in , but the fish and chips and three cheese...Mac and cheese was delish! So glad we stopped in. Good prices tooMore

After touring the Utica Club Brewery, my family and I stopped at the Celtic Harp for dinner. I was amazed by the great food each of us had for dinner. The jumbo wings are awesome....some of the best I have had anywhere. My son had...the chili cheese fries that were incredible. My other son had an appetizer sample plate that was very good. Finally, my white had the fish fry (haddock) which she loved. Best of all, the prices were great. Each plate cheaper than a McDonalds so-called value meal with the exception of the fish. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was excellent. We will definetly be back on our next visit to Utica.More

I am a liberal reviewer. I understand that every place has a bad night. But, this was obviously not just a bad night. It was business as usual. We had a party of 8, had made a reservation and arrived on time. No one was...up front, or approached us, as to where we should sit. We saw a table set for 8 and sat there after 5 minutes. 5 minutes later a server approached to immediately tell us that they were out of, or soon to be out of, 5-7 items. We found out later that that list was longer than she told us. She also told us right away that the kitchen was small and running behind and it would take 20-30 minutes for food. So, we ordered right away. It took about 90 minutes for our food. In between we were advised that various food and drink we ordered were “out”. When the food arrived, it was lukewarm and, frankly, pretty bad. We are at an Irish Pub and the Shepard’s Pie barely resembled a Shepard’s Pie. Disgusting. I have never given a zero ball review but the time has come. Unfortunately, you have to give at least one. If you want to drink, come on in (unless you want something specific which may be “out”). Otherwise, steer clear of this place. How it has a 4 rating on TripAdvisor is beyond me. Makes me wonder about what is going on. It is obvious that the management and the kitchen staff have no idea how to run a restaurant.More

Beer and food are highly compatible and it isn’t surprising at all that most every beer bar in the land now serves food as well as beer. Some of these establishments are just as much restaurants as they are bars and a prime example is...Celtic Harp, located across the street from the historic FX Matt Brewery. I took a recent tour of Central New York in support of my beer blog, Great Beer Now, and after concluding a visit to the FX Matt Brewery, I made my way across the street to Celtic Harp. I didn’t know anything about this restaurant before choosing to dine here. I liked the location, obviously, and it sounded and looked like a cool place so I made my way across the street and walked inside. Celtic Harp is an Irish- themed bar and the atmosphere is very chill, with a large bar, tabled seating, and two levels. Sports are almost always showing on the televisions and there are some small photos adorning the walls. The atmosphere is about the way you would expect for a pub and it is certainly comfortable. Moving to the food, Celtic Harp specializes in pub items like appetizers, burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc, and since it is Irish- themed, they serve Irish options like corned beef and Shepherd’s Pie. The full bar has multiple specialty drink options, classic cocktails, and a wide assortment of beer. I ordered the Philly Steak and Fries when I visited and found it very good overall. The hoagie roll it was served on was a little on the chewy side, but it was still quite tasty and just what my stomach needed after touring FX Matt Brewing. Celtic Harp can get quit crowded when there is live music playing, so I recommend visiting during quieter days and times so that you can enjoy a good pub meal and drink in an Irish/sports setting. It’s a cool place for food and drink and it makes an excellent choice for a visit after a tour of the massive FX Matt Brewery.More
