This is a small, retro cafe with simple food - vegetarian and vegan included. The atmosphere is relaxed, it's a good place for a lunch meeting. There are open mic nights, poetry reading nights and other evening entertainment. Great fun!

Kind of a hidden gem for folks not from the area They treat you like family. The food is good. Vegan, Vegi or meat eater / omnivore The coffee is excellent The atmosphere is quite eclectic. Sort of 60's - love peace and mellow atmosphere. I would definitely go back.

Nothing to see outside the building but inside it's a cool place with great soups, interesting vegetarian options, superb coffee. Music and poetry some nights. Robin did a great job creating the place with her friends & it's still the idiosyncratic home away from home that it was intended to be. Perfect place to enjoy coffee & a book.

Beside the Thursday open mic nights for poetry, and Friday and Sunday night open mic music events that they have every week, the food is good, the drink offerings are plentiful, if you like coffee, teas, bottled local sodas, hot chocolate, and milk shakes. The baked goods are great, if you're not diabetic. They are baked in house. All the... More

It may look sketchy, but it is a hip, chill place inside. Mocha latte, fresh daily made broccoli cheddar soup with Heidelberg toast, homemade hummus & warm pita all fantastic and affordable while supporting a local small business. Skip the chain shops and give the Tram a try.

The cafe is a delight to see... Cosy, eclectic. We ordered tomato basil soup which was ok. The hummus and tabouli with pita was good. The spicy bean burger started well till a long strand hair showed up. The hostess promptly replaced the burger. The burger was outstanding in taste. The hair cost them the 5 stars they would have... Great hippie style coffeehouse that seems a little out of place in a depressed-looking neighborhood of Utica. Quirky decor with mismatched furniture, comfortable chairs, super relaxed atmosphere -- a good place to get work done on a laptop or just chill. The menu isn't huge but has a lot of vegetarian/vegan options (I think there were 5 different kinds of... More

Open Mic Night is a good time. Coffee and food are consistently good too. (Great Chai and lots of flavor options for lattes) Worth a visit for sure!

We needed a place for lunch in Utica and turned to Trip Advisor and found excellent reviews for this out of the way cafe - not far from downtown but off the beaten path. We drove by thinking, really - this is the place? But we parked and went in - entering the coolest, funkiest retro space! Service superb! Food... More

Opened in 2008, the "Tram" has secured a stellar reputation as a one of a kind community meeting space, coffeehouse, and cafe. Offering exceptional salads, homemade soups, and fresh in-house baked goods with a full-service espresso bar, always served with style by their knowledgeable and friendly crew in a diverse, all-ages friendly, warm, inviting and eclectic environment. The Tram regularly features phenomenal local & regional performers, a small art gallery & meeting room, a poetry open mic and our infamous extremely popular weekly Sunday Night Open Mic. Located in a funky old repurposed building on the edge of Utica Ny's Arts District, the Tram is with easy walking distance of the FX Matt/Saranac Brewery, Player's Theater, Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute Museum and Art School, and the Stanley Theater. The Tramontane Cafe is a favorite "Uniquely Utica" destination for discerning local folks & a multitude of adventurous out-of-towners who appreciate the charm & distinction of non-chain, independently owned and operated small businesses where the owners are working every day and care about what they do and what they strive for in their community.
