Birthday celebration at a great public house in Troy, NY

We had a birthday celebration for my bride on Sat 1/20/24 5:30pm. Ryan's Wake is a true public house in the tradition of the Irish pubs. I had made an online reservation request for a party of 8 on Fri. And had a very prompt response, one hour, from Emily to confirm our reservation. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess - tall, dark hair young woman who I failed to get her name. I had asked her if she was Emily b/c I wanted to thank her for the reservation. She said no but later she introduced us to Emily because she said that everybody likes to be recognized for their good service. Sweet. Our table was set with menus. Our server was J.J. (Justin) who took the drink orders. One of our party knew J.J., as he was a customer at his Stewart's Shop. The final two of our party arrived and we ordered our meals. Apps up first - bacon ranch fries ($12) enough for 4, bbq chicken dusters (tenders) ($12), and a "Not Too Many" (7) shrimp cocktail ($12). NOTE: the "Way Too Many" is 14 for $20. Whatta Deal! Dinners were: bacon blue burger ($15), Chicken Quesadilla ($15), two of the "Best Reuben You Ever Had" corned beef w/ requested mustard instead of Russian dressing w/ fries ($15). Nailed it. A Kickin' chicken sandwich (ala Nashville( ($13) - chix thigh crunchy outside, moist & tender inside.And two "Quintessence" chicken teriyaki dinners w/ cold spinach noodles & side Parisian salad w/ pickled veg ($15). A Capitol District favorite that Ryan's does exceptionally well. One diner didn't really like her Caesar wrap b/c of the dressing was different from her previous Caesar experiences. JJ & hostess apologized but this was not a big deal to us. Surprised when we got the bill that her meal was "comped". Not necessary, but GREAT customer service. As we were leaving we ran into Chris Ryan the owner. This was fortunate b/c we got to thank him in person and compliment his staff. A most gracious publican. After Work Stop

A good selection of draft beers, and a beers and a limited dinner menu with plenty of bar snacks. Terrace overlooking the Hudson. Had a special, grilled chicken breast on a skewer wrapped around scallions and carrot stick. Side salad and cold noodle salad. Unusual and very good! Good place to relax with a grew or two.

Wow, A Great EXPERIENCE!!!

Arrived in Troy for a college visit with my son. Check into a local hotel and headed out for a late dinner nearby. Settled on Ryan's Wake as a result of a strong recommendation of the hotel staff. A great EXPERIENCE to end a long travel day. This large spacious authentic Irish Pub had Hudson River views on a gorgeous Tuesday night in late June. Spent 2+ hours eating burgers (Wake Burger), eating wings and drinking locally brewed drafts (in my case); son settled on the Seneca Root Beer. Wait staff were friendly, helpful, and conversational. Nothing about the food or atmosphere, it’s the unnecessary attitude

Yes we’re glad you are doing so well and that you are packed, but you don’t need to be so snippy to potential customers. Twice in last month we went in to request a table, two different people making the request and both times we were met with meanness and “we don’t need your business” attitude. Just because you are busy and crowded and help is short, you should never be rude and nasty. All the restaurants are experiencing this, including Brown’s where we ended up both times for a great time.

Really good beer and food

Accommodated us for a post-wedding-day hair of the dog gathering before opening hours. Staff was super helpful and friendly during the planning process. Everything you would expect from a pub experience but the food was legitimately DELICIOUS. Do yourself a favor and grab a pint and some dusters at Ryan's Wake!

A good place to celebrate

Typical bar with fast food menu. The veggie plate is incredible. Service is excellent. Noise levels get high. Tables end up with lots of plates and glasses as the night goes on.

Anson R. Thompson Co. stain glass drew me into the place but the inside was very nicely renovated and the bar was beautiful. Ordered a Manhattan with bulleit bourbon. Drink was solid. Wandered around Troy for a short bit. Until next tone Troy !

This was a spot I visited on my trip back home. They have a great atmosphere, great food, and a wonderful staff. They made me and my friends feel very welcome for my 70th birthday. The bar is old Ireland in Troy NY. If I get back I will be seeing you again

Great place if your out of town .

Food is too cheap ! Travel alot for work and cannot get food like this for this price .Owner is around and manager and staff are great .If you in Troy from out of town make this a stop .Two blocks from the Marriott .

Enjoyed a pleasant Sunday afternoon here on the Hudson River in Troy, NY

Perfect spot to beat the late day summer heat. Visited Sunday 6/03/18. Elevated, sun or shade deck overlooking the east bank of the Hudson River. We have visited here many times and Ryan's Wake never disappoints. Cool drinks (15 craft brews) and an overboard cheese & veggie board are just right. Note: Small pub menu but Ryan's does it very well as opposed to other places that try to do everything and it end up just being mediocre. Highly recommended for outdoor enjoyment. Friendly and efficient bar & wait staff. Also the owner Chris Ryan is almost always there and greets all the customers during their visits. Kudos Chris! Note: Ryan's Wake is also the host of The League of Extraordinary Redheads gatherings a couple of times a year. The main bar is a beautiful throwback to a golden age of pubs. p.s. restrooms are very well kept. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended. Come and enjoy. Thank you, Nick & Liz

Graduation Party

Just had a party at Ryan’s Wake and it was fantastic! Jared was wonderful to plan with, food & drinks were great. Everyone wanted to stay longer than the private event. The owner stopped by to thank us for hosting the party at Ryan’s Wake, which many guests noticed! Someone booked a future event with Jared at our party as she thought it was great. The bar is located in a great location with a parking lot, so no issues with parking. Beautiful view of the Hudson River off the back deck. Will be frequenting Ryan’s Wake more often as we were really impressed with our whole experience!

One of my all time favorite bars, not only for beer but food as well. The staff is extremely friendly and personable, even when busy. The owner is probably the nicest and most caring human being you'll ever meet

Great indoor/outdoor bar overlooking the Hudson River in downtown Troy! Attended a great celebration that was packed and the bartenders were awesome taking care of everyone!
