Northern New Jersey/Southern New York has a rich colonial history. The area is littered with old Dutch homesteads and barns. The "76 House" is considered one of the country's oldest operating "Taverns" and is located in Tappan, NY. We walked in and were promptly and warmly greeted, and then seated. The 76 house will not disappoint on any level. You... More

George Washington and early US memorabilia decorate this long-time restaurant which seems to get better and better over time. There's a terrific lunch and dinner menu and I've never had anything less than a very good meal. Service is helpful and friendly. Worth the trip!

We were there on a sunday and only the buffet was available. We discussed eating somewhere else but decided to go for it. It's not a cheap buffet but it certainly is a delicious one! Everything from the onion soup to the pork to the apple crisp was fantastic. And the Tavernmaster ale was excellent too. The building definitely has... More

I really like this place. It is over 300 years old and the history is really cool. It is supposed to be haunted by the ghost of a traitor that was executed during the American Revolution. The food is above average bordering on great. I had the steak and my wife had salmon stuffed with crab, both dishes were fantastic,... More

The '76 House restaurant is located in a structure that dates back to pre revolutionary war times. the atmosphere is delightful with wide planked floors, beamed ceilings and numerous wall decorations including muskets, pictures and pewter plates. The restaurant gets packed on a Saturday evening so it is best to call ahead for reservations. The menu includes not only selections... More

If you are interested in a dose of history with a great meal, this is the place. George Washington was here when this was a tavern. This tavern had a part in the American Revolution. The dinner was lovely, beautifully prepared and presented. We really enjoyed the owner stopping at our table for a nice chat as well.

Very good brunch. The selection of food was good. It was buffet style. Service was good, although only needed for beverages etc., since it was a buffet.

We celebrated my father's 80th birthday two weeks ago. We were 5 at the round table in front of the old fireplace. Lots of interesting items on the menu, but none of the entrées or main were outstanding. Mostly just ok. Maybe the best was the crab cakes. I do not think that I would recommend the restaurant as a... More

While the tavern is charming, the customer service and food preparation leaves a lot to be desired. The calamari appetizer was overdone and chewy and the shrimp cocktail was pricey for what you received. My mother ordered the duck and received two drumstick quarters instead of half the duck. Not crispy as she ordered. The best part of it was... More

One of my favorite restaurants. A tad pricey, so I save it for special occasions. Truth be told, it's worth the price. I will eat there more often as soon as I win the lottery.
