Family owned and operated and it shows. Waiter was amazing full of energy and extremely helpful. My girlfriend didnt know what to get they literally built a dish she wanted and they made it. Food was out of this world with flavor and you get...ur moneys worth. Desserts were all pretty much homemade. There homemade cheesecake was amazing. The atmosphere here was amazing and warm.More

Family run. Very warm and comfortable atmosphere. Food was delicious. Ordered Cold Antipasto, Calamari with cherry peppers for starters. Pasta, Gnocchi, Chicken Marsala for entrees. There were four of us and everything was perfection to the tee. Service, though busy was attentive. Have been there...prior and this visit did not disappoint. Blackboard specials had great variety. Have gone here more for takeout Awesome Meatball Pizza. Have to make it a habit to go here more often to eat in instead of just take out.More

We were there on Saturday. The food was good. Service was good as well as the drinks and desert. It’s definitely $$-$$$. We will go back.

Our first visit to Sal's in Smithtown and we will be going back. Delicious food, excellent service, very pleasant ambiance. The eggplant rollatini was made perfectly, not too thin and not chewy. It is truly the best I have had in a very long time....My husband and I shared a piece of NY style cheesecake for dessert and it was excellent, very light and with an added drizzle of caramel. Our waiter, Chris, was polite, friendly, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. Looking forward to going back!More

We were a party of four and we all enjoyed our food. We decided to eat at the outside tables and that worked out OK. Although it is right on busy Jericho Turnpike, there was nice music being pumped in and we were able to...sit and the traffic noise on a Saturday night wasn't that bad. My biggest peeve with this place was that, while there was a nice wine list with prices, there was no corresponding list for beers. This forced me to play 20 questions with our server who told me the beers and said that, if I wanted to know the price, he could go inside and find out. I guess that I should not want to know or care what the cost of the beers are (if you have to ask, you can't afford it). But I guess I have frugal tendencies. The bottom line was that the 3 beers I identified were all $9 each (for draft beer) and that's even higher than most NYC places. The food prices seemed to be more in line with the local restaurants. I would definitely come back for the food but I would probably not order drinks next time due to their being somewhat overpriced.More

Let me preface by saying we always sit at the bar. This is a hard one to write because my husband and I used to really like Sal’s and frequented it at least once a week. About 5 or 6 months ago, their food began...to go downhill and has continued to get worse. In addition, the atmosphere has gotten very unpleasant. With the exception of the night the owner’s son works the bar (the son is fantastic and always makes you feel welcome), it’s gotten progressively worse to the point where we have decided we will not go there anymore. This is sad because we used to really like it. With that said, they make fantastic lasagna, gnocchi and fettuccine alfredo. declined over the last 8 or 9 months. The food was already a bit overpriced, but it seems as if it’s gotten even more expensive. We went in the other day and they charged $28 for a piece of overcooked salmon and about $28 for some pasta that was horrible. This is not a restaurant that can justify those prices. Those should have been around $17 each. It’s a very casual place, but they’re pricing about a level or two higher than they should. This is not an upscale restaurant or even close to it.The other day when we were in there, I asked the bartender for Parmesan cheese and pepper. She actually handed me one of those cheap little glass Parmesan shakers and cheap glass salt and pepper shakers. What kind of restaurant that serves pasta doesn’t have freshly grated Parmesan? When I asked about freshly grated Parmesan, she actually said they grate cheese everyday and put it in the shakers. That makes no sense at all. Why would a place do that? Plus, how exactly will you be getting the Parmesan out of the small shaker holes? Obviously, it’s ground Parmesan. As for the pepper, they charge $28 for pasta, but can’t even provide ground pepper? She actually gave me a pepper shaker? We used to enjoy eating going there and eating at the bar, but we now find it to be a very unpleasant environment; therefore, we we will never go back. I hate to give them 2 stars, but in our opinion, it no longer warrants a higher score.More
