Vine Street Cafe has a great menu and easy, comfortable atmosphere during the offseason. Fresh salad and the calamari as appetizers were a great start. The fresh fish and specials of the day were all excellent. Portion are not large, just enough, and the services was very good, having at least 3 people during the meal provide us with everything... Off-season visit to the restaurant. Service was good. Menu was extensive. Pork ribs were outstanding but Ragu Bolognese was too spicey. Very pricey for the entres.

Spent a fabulous and relaxed long weekend on Shelter Island, and a friend said you must dine at Vine. So glad we listened! The place was packed, even though it was "off season". We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The room is warm and cozy and the noise level is such that you carry on a conversation without... More

I was visiting Shelter Island in late September and came here for dinner one night with my brother and one of my best friends. We all loved everything about this place! The country cottage feel, great lighting and simple, rustic yet chic decor. The food was outstanding! We are all real "foodies" and it's not often you find food to... More

We dined there one Saturday evening - the ambiance was cosy and welcoming, the place was packed but we got a table quite soon. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. When the food arrived we were all pleased. I ordered grilled scallops, someone else ordered grilled salmon - both dishes were prepared to perfection!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night at Vine Street. Our server Mykel was outstanding, and gave us the best service we've had on either the North or South Fork. Steak with Bearnaise sauce was delicious, sides of book choy with mushrooms and French fries perfect. Solid red wine and salads, ending with profiteroles, a lovely setting... More

Food is generally good/very good, service varies wildly...from attentive to indifferent/dreadful. Biggest knock on vine street are the prices which are uber premium given the good, not great food. Everything on Shelter Island is expensive, but when you end up spending $150+/person it should be a pretty darn special experience.

Have visited seven or so times with mixed results. Went at 6:45 Thursday night. Nicely quiet. Hostess was lovely and inviting and our handsome waiter David was spot-on likable and proficient. Three plates of pricey half-dozen local oysters were perfectly briney and well-presented. The Thursday Plat du Jour is "Pastrami Ribs," highly recommended by a friend. My guest commented that... I won't give it an excellent only because the tomatoes in the tomato salad were chilled (chilled!!!). It would have otherwise been an amazing salad, to go along with the rest of a delicious meal. The lamb in the main course was perfect, and the desserts, both of which included seasonal fruits, were amazing. I have to say they were... More
